  1. Re:Maybe it's me on Dead Space Wants To Scare You · · Score: 1, Interesting

    Your logic is...confusing to me. I can't begin to understand it, but I can tell you that your not necessarily supposed to be afraid to die. What makes these games scary is darkness, and things jumping out of nowhere. That's not "scary" per say, it's more of a "jumpy" feeling...which I can't stand. I played doom3 with god mode and other cheats but I still couldn't finish it. I just can't stand crap jumping out at me. It's why I dont' like horror movies either. But a lot of people eat that up, and so that's what they're aiming for.

    As for you wanting to be tense and afraid to loose something you worked for, all I can say is this; A lot of people are like that, but it makes absolutely no since what-so-ever. Life is stressful, life is tense, life is challenging, so why in the hell would I want to "Play" a game that has those same factors? It just makes no since. Obviously games shouldn't be too easy, but they shouldn't be so hard that you actually will have something to get upset over if you die. But if these were the good ole days (the days of gamesharks and codebreakers) they could do whatever they want to the game, make it hard, easy, whatever, and then the player could do the fine tuning via memory hijacking...sigh...I miss them so much, and now that I know they're gone, I'm probably not even going to bother with the next Playstation, xbox, or Nintendo console :\

    umm...yeah, subject pretty much says it all. I'm done with Verizon, qualcomm (did they get bought out?) and all the other do nothing greedy (well who isn't, but American corporations are greedy AND stupid) tel-com companies. Well...I wanted to write sayonara in hiragana, but slashdot is slightly on the retarded side and kept %@$#ing changing it to html crap or something...uggg...anyway, sayonara.

  3. HDCP + $30 per movie = meh :\ on Bad Signs For Blu-ray · · Score: 0

    I can't really add anything that hasn't already been mentioned. The two things that I did notice though and I couldn't agree more with (with some of my own views);

    1: HDCP is a big part of it (we all know it's pointless anyway, movies aren't ripped and distributed via a capture card, so way to go to the idiots at intel who developed it, and the ignoramuses that wanted it developed. Not to mention the money that went into developing it.)

    2: $30 a movie is also a big part. A lot of people say it's worth it because it's the best quality, but technology is always giving us the best quality that's available at the time. It's just that with the storage capacity of Blu-ray disc, for the first time it's possible to distribute the movies with practically the same quality as theaters (for the 2M pixel projectors) or really close (for the 4m pixel projectors and 4m pixel movies [are any movies 4M?]). Either way, it's always been the best possible, so even though it's several times better this time, it doesn't excuse the 30 dollars a movie price tag. And if nothing else, it's definitly been keeping me from starting my Blu-Ray collection.

    The solution to the problem lies in;

    1: Dropping HDCP (again, it's useless anyway, any torrent site or newsgroup will prove this)

    2: Drop prices of the movies to DVD price range (for quality freaks that easily give into "The Man" Blu-Ray is a no questions solution, but for the people that don't care much, in this case it would come down to "hell, it's the same price, why not?")

    3: Cheaper blu-ray players (They're actually not bad, but the less they cost, the more inclined people will be to buy them)

    ignorance? You want to talk about ignorance, why don't you listen to what your saying you dip shit. You're so closed minded it's not even funny. God an invisible man...who ever said that?! I can't get over your stupidity, it's just astounding! First of all, if god exists (and I do believe he does) nothing he does is magic! Everything that happens in this world, by our doing, or otherwise is science, period. Just because we can't even begin to comprehend how something works doesn't mean it's magic, or that it never happened. I've always thought carbon dating was just a load of BS anyway. Earth could be 5000 years old (yes it could only be that old, it's very possible) or it could be millions (just as possible). You can't just start making educated guesses based on the limited knowledge that humans posses and call them "facts". The only way anyone would ever know the truth and be 100% sure of it is if they were as old as the earth itself and witnessed everything. That being said, I hope your so called "ignorant" neighbors bug the shit out of you to the point where you kill yourself under the pressure. And wouldn't it just be great to find out that heaven and hell does exists, and because of your stubborn nature and asshole attitude you get sent strait to hell!? Now that would put a smile on my face.

    I mistakenly hit the submit button on this last one while trying to preview it to check formatting. As a result, something was posted that makes no sense, and I can't get rid of it thanks to slashdots lack of an obvious "edit" or "delete" feature.

    here you go, strait from my first post;
    "I thought I should mention this as well; when I say 62% of dial up users are ignorant, I don't mean that literally. I know for a fact that some of them are actually very educated people, geeks even, but they actually don't need more than dial up because they most likely don't browse the web at all, or very very seldom"

    That's exactly what I typed at the end of my post to show that I'm not being stubborn, and to avoid comments like yours. Again, I can't stress this enough; please read everything and have a complete understanding before replying.

And if you actually did read it all then it's 100% safe for me to say that it went strait over your head, because if you did fully comprehend what I was saying then you wouldn't of replied the way you did.

  8. 62% of dial up users are ignorant on Dial-Up Users "Don't Want Broadband" · · Score: 1, Insightful

    What this basically means is that 62% of dial up users are ignorant. They aren't mentally ill, stupid, or dumb asses, they're just uneducated and don't understand what "broadband" really is. Some of the reasons they think they don't want broadband (I use the term think because any educated persons should want something faster than dial up) are as follows: 1: They're paying somewhere along the lines of 10-20 dollars a month for dial up and see no reason they should pay more for Internet access 2: Broadband confuses them. They've used dial up forever and don't understand any other way to access the Internet. 3: A complete lack of knowledge of bandwidth, transfer rates, or data size. The biggest problem is that most of them really don't understand just how much faster and more convenient it is. They don't necessarily need 10 Mbps downstream, especially if they're only browsing web sites and sending/receiving e-mails, but 56 Kbps (and you don't even get that, depending on the condition some people can't connect any faster than about 28 Kbps) is not enough for today's web and even e-mails. This people that "think" they don't want broadband actually do want it, but they don't need any more than about 256 Kbps up/down. That would be perfect for them, it's enough bandwidth to quickly send and receive pictures in e-mails and even the occasional video clip (not streaming of course). And more than enough to browse most any well put together web site. I thought I should mention this as well; when I say 62% of dial up users are ignorant, I don't mean that literally. I know for a fact that some of them are actually very educated people, geeks even, but they actually don't need more than dial up because they most likely don't browse the web at all, or very very seldom. It kind of seams odd that a geek wouldn't care about broadband, but it's not far fetched to say that they exist and really just don't care. The people I'm talking about are the typical computer user that doesn't even understand what a web browser is, and can only use a computer because they have certain routines burned into their brain, but if an unfamiliar window comes out of no where, they'll have no idea what it is, how to get rid of it, or where it came from...those types of users are very likely to be the majority of that 62%.
