  1. Re:A good idea that won't turn out well on Virginia Becomes First State to Mandate Internet Safety Lessons · · Score: 1

Having done most of my education in Virginia (6th grade through PhD), I think I have some idea how this is going to go. First, the teachers will receive a bare minimum amount of instruction and education into this. There will be some cookie-cutter materials that the department of education will pass out, and they'll make teachers sit through some class. But the bulk of the instruction will consist of the teacher plopping an over-produced, over-dramatic, under-budgeted, cheesy videocassette into an old VCR that the school should have replaced last century with something more modern. The teachers will then do nothing more than to facilitate some type of bogus group discussion on this whole internet thing. And, of course, the students won't take it seriously at all. Because how can some grown up know more about the facebooks and myspaces out there -- "grown ups aren't supposed to use these things." So half the students will end up practically sleeping through it, and the other half will end up cracking wise-ass jokes at the teacher and getting smart. So the overall effectiveness of this will be essentially nil. I only wished that would be the way it happened, because then it would at least make for a funny joke. What really happens is they bring in some guest speaker who gives a speech in front of the whole grade and talks about how pedophiles can see anything you put up on Facebook, completely ignoring privacy settings while people actually pay attention and believe what is being said (though fortunately this is only the stupid people, the smart people know too just ignore that idiot speaker.)
  2. A good idea that won't turn out well on Virginia Becomes First State to Mandate Internet Safety Lessons · · Score: 5, Interesting

I'm a sophomore in high school in Maryland. My school has had people give speeches on Internet safety multiple times. Typically these lessons serve more to teach inaccuracies about the internet (as the people who teach them tend to know nothing about the internet) and scare people away from the internet based on those falsehoods, then actually teach people how to be safe on the internet. Obviously my experiences are not a guarantee of what will happen in Virginia, but as I said, I have been through these things multiple times and they have never turned out well.

  3. Re:Sony is Going to Lose the Console War on Sony Open to Considering PS3 Price Cuts · · Score: 1

Ok, you want stats to back it up, you get stats to back it up. I think someone already said this but the amount Sony loses on a console is already over $200, which being that it's mostly 3rd party games that sell on PS3, means that sony only makes 10% of the money made from those games, though they do make more for 1st party games. That means they already have to have a very high attach rate for games for them to make a profit. If Sony lowers the price of the PS3, they have no chance of meeting the needed attach rate. Thus hey will lose money, and if they lose money they can't afford to support the PS3, there for PS3 gets no games, PS3 loses. Not only that but the reason Sony is considering a price drop is because their trying to better compete with Sony and Microsoft (obviously), and the fact that they feel the need to become even more competitive this early in the PS3's lifespan, shows that they know it's losing, and thus proves it to us consumers. Is that enough proof for you? And also don't blame me for having a comment that got plus 5'd, I didn't rate it that, and clearly if it did get plus 5'd, to most people (or just to the moderators, i don't know how it works) it was a good comment.

  4. Sony is Going to Lose the Console War on Sony Open to Considering PS3 Price Cuts · · Score: 5, Insightful

As much as I hate to say it, Sony has no chance, and the fact that they have to do a price drop on their console this early in its lifespan especially when they're taking a huge loss on it already, proves it.

  5. This game is looking good. on Extensive Twilight Princess Previews · · Score: 1

The vast majority of the previews of Twilight Princess that just came out today have been overwhelmingly positive, some people thought the new control mechanic would be bad but so far everyone seems to like it. Some people are even saying this game is better than Ocarina of Time.

I made a machinema one, I made it in a game called "The Movies", which I highly recommend as a beginner tool to anyone that wants to make a machinema. You can check it out at http://youtube.com/watch?v=2tHLjnAsYrg other than that the only machinema I've ever seen that was very good is Red vs Blue, which is absolutely superb, so go watch it if you havn't already.

  7. A MySpace Story on MySpace Fears, Just Another Backlash? · · Score: 1

I am a 8th Grade student who previously used, and enjoyed Myspace. The fact Myspace's dangers are incredibally over hyped. My School has had assembleys about internet safety and Myspace and these assembleys showed me that schools and parents severely underestimate our intelligence. If there is a sexual preadator we know, don't tell him any of our personal information thats not already on our MySpace, and tell him too "fuck off." Also MySpace is a valuble tool in helping people to be more social. However that doesn't mean parents should see there kid's MySpaces, during the age of most MySpace users people are supposed to break away from their parents, and MySpace helps. The same goes for schools, they shouldn't be looking at student's MySpace's it's not for them.
