Now that AT&T and BS have merged, it's obvious they are determined to resurrect the same mafia style business model they used for decades before they were broken up.
I have always been a political conservative for most of my life concerning monopolies, but seeing this kind of bile coming from these companies, it has taught me what facist really means and how dangerous they can are.
The only way they can get away with this is with the blessing of our wonderful leaders and the apathy of the average person- (not just Americans)
After all these years of hearing the horrors of China controlling information, these companies are hell bent to do the same.
Bandwidth is not a damned finite natural resource like crude oil. You're supposed to work with your 'vendors' to meet CUSTOMER expectations... if that's not too much for us CUSTOMERS to ask.
It's pitiful that the Telcos' business model is still the same as the typical mobster and politician- get people to believe they are dependent on them.
Go ahead and raise the prices. Raise them too much and people won't use your service anymore.
I agree totally about throwing the baby out with bathwater.
I was pulled from the job I had loved for twelve years and put in charge of SOX IS/IT compliance for our office.
Although I was successful in bringing our office up to compliance, I resigned a year later due to hating my job.
Before SOX, our office ran in the black at the tune of 15-20% each month. During the first year of SOX we ran the same amount in the red.
The endless teleconferences/meetings, new SOP's, and hours devoted to figuring out what the heck all the legal speak meant obliterated productivity to an already lean staff. We had to hire new people and train them to do work for those assigned to SOX.
It did not help that my GM fought me every step of the way and could not afford to give me an increase in pay due to the office losing so much money.
I turned the ordeal into a positive learning experience and a nice addition to my resume.
The best lesson I learned? Stick to working for myself and bartending.
Go to the book store and pick up a copy of "Splinter of the Minds Eye". Read the Forward George Lucas wrote. He talks about all the other prequels and sequels he planned to make... and compare that to his rantings a few years ago about "I never said it would be nine movies... I always knew Luke and Leia were brother and sister"
He had some of his best people quit him while making Jedi because he took a hatchet to the original story so he could quit doing Star Wars and move on to other things.
He even made the comment once that he could have directed Empire as well as Irwin Kershner. Is this why he ruined the end of Empire with that damned 'we needed to show Vader getting on his shuttle, flying to his Star Destroyer, getting off the shuttle as a reception committee is there to greet him so no one would be confused'?
I don't listen to anything that comes out of that ego maniac's mouth anymore. George Lucas is just plain old full of shit.
Dell just sucks now. It used to be that the only time I serviced a Dell would be for either spyware/virus issues or for upgrades.. now it's almost always for break/fizes. Even when I talk to an end user I hear the same Customer Service horror stories that hear from HP customers.
Just yesterday one customer told me "Chris" from India offered her two $100 Dell credits that could not be used together for her to purchase more Dell garbage. This after her fourth hardware failure in six months.
All of us have ancestors who were led by religious leaders who told them what God wanted them to do or else they were going to hell. This dynamic is still alive today in the more uneducated parts of the world.
Since most of us are much more educated (and much more arrogant) we are being scared by "scientific" evidence that we are destroying the world with our wicked ways.
When I was a kid we were taught that we were entering a new ice age. When I reached high school was when all the Global Warming crap started.
Sure the polar ice caps are melting.. Mars is having the same issue. Could it be the sun is getting hotter on it's own?
As long as you have jealoous people who need to tear successful people down, you will always have leaders and 'experts' that will exploit the hell out of them.
Go out and drink some beer, get laid, and live your lives. geez...
Prayer is about trusting a Higher Power no matter what the future brings. In that sense it is the best way to keep your sanity when faced with trauma.
Prayer is not a magic cantation that gives you the power over the health and lives of other people. Sorry Pat Robertson.
Prayer is supposed to be private and personal. Not something you grandstand.
In a situation like someone having heart surgery, you don't pray to TELL God to make the person live, you pray to find guidance for what YOU can do to help that person and those he/she loves no matter what the outcome is.
Real prayer is about trusing God, which in my opinion is all He really wants.
You guys miss the point...
You'll still have a use for those nifty little paper labels.

And everyone thought Microsoft was evil.
"Or at least check to see if the company is a publicly held company before applying. SOX SUCKS"
You got that right!
Mom and Pop Shops = I love my job!
Publicly Held Companies = How much longer until I go home?

You are just stupid. What if the rootkit is designed to sneak into your home's breaker box! You need to burn your house down... NOW!
What happens if I get hit by a drunk driver when I go out tonight? Oh dear me!!!

Yeah, but reading from a book is easier than a laptop when you're on the toilet.
But you are right about how quickly books can become outdated.
