I am 22 years old studying astrophysics. I used to box for my region and am very healthy. I've travelled to 15 countries in the previous 3 years of my life and yearn for adventure.
I would go to Mars if knowing I would die after a day. It doesn't bother me. The experience would be absolutely incredible and spiritual (in a non-religious scientific way) for me. There are no shortage of other crazies I'm sure.
Mars To Stay is by far the most sensible idea for Mars missions. For the price of returning settlers, we can send many more people back and improve our rocket tech in the process.
"More than two-thirds of the population of Iran is under the age of 30, one quarter being 15 years of age or younger. Iran also exhibits one of the steepest urban growth rates in the world according to the UN humanitarian information unit. According to 2005 population estimates, approximately 67 percent of Iran's population lives in urban areas, up from 27 percent in 1950. According to the International Monetary Fund, the Islamic Republic of Iran ranks first in "brain drain" among 61 "developing" and "less developed" countries it measured. More than 150,000 Iranians leave the Islamic Republic every year, and an estimated 25% of all Iranians with post-secondary education now live abroad in "developed" countries of the OECD. As of late 2006 nearly 70% of Iran's science and engineering students are women. Furthermore according to UNESCO world survey, Iran has the highest female to male ratio at primary level of enrollment in the world among sovereign nations, with a girl to boy ratio of 1.22 : 1.00. Science growth in Iran is the highest worldwide."
How is this country not a candidate for world domination?
They are the fastest growing scientific sector in the third world, ranking first in terms of growth rate (ahead of China). Unlike China, 1/4 of their published papers are co-authored with Western countries showing that it's valid science. They regularly rank high in world rankings for fields like nanotechnology, neurology.etc
"A 2010 report by Canadian research firm Science-Metrix has put Iran in the top rank globally in terms of growth in scientific productivity with a 14.4 growth index followed by South Korea with a 9.8 growth index.[107] Iran's growth rate in science and technology is 11 times more than the average growth of the world's output in 2009 and in terms of total output per year, Iran has already surpassed the total scientific output of countries like Sweden, Switzerland, Israel, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Austria or that of Norway....
Other findings of the report point out that the fastest growing sectors in Iran are Physics, Public health sciences, Engineering, Chemistry and Mathematics. Overall the growth has mostly occurred after 1980 and specially has been becoming faster since 1991 with a significant acceleration in 2002 and an explosive surge since 2005."
That the article in the OP fails to mention Iran strikes me that it's poorly written and non-credible. Most of the Chinese science is not valuable worldwide and is marred by widespread fraudulent unscientific claims.
Poker is my life and I'm a professional player who makes my living off Poker. The passing of the UIGEA will stop many others playing this game online. The games will get harder because the drunk guy who comes home and decides to have a game of Poker will not be able to. Also the talented teenager who could be the next Tiger Woods of Poker will have his potential lost due to a retarded law and instead be working at MacDonalds.
Why live casino Poker is allowed but online isn't, doesn't make much moral sense. Lucky I'm from the UK where the laws wrt to Poker *actually* make sense.
Disclaimer: I was a games designer.
It is a highly saturated field. Many people start as a programmer or artist and then after a few years are able to progress into games design. You will take a pay cut. The hours are long and it will suck.
I've stopped now after last year when petty squabbles angered me. Now I'm playing poker for a living. I plan to just make lots of money and have my life revolve around me.
Really you need to just work. Work your arse off everyday and be obsessive. Prepare to throw away your life. Can't say much about university- went 3 times and quit after a few weeks (CS, multimedia gfx, animation) but I think it probably helps get you in. Also you need to write a lot. As in English creative writing. Seriously don't do it- there's like 1million people already trying. You can only have money or do a job you enjoy in life- not both, so go for the former.
You are wrong. Those who support the government are a ruthless ideological minority. Those who oppose are a burgeoning young middle class with little propensity for violence.
Having lived there I can tell you that everyone hates oppression and the oppressors.
I'm a professional poker player and I make a reasonable income. Many other regulars I know were former Starcraft players.
It's just a natural cycle of things. A few years ago people used to play Chess, but I know a few of them moved to Poker.
As an example: Bertrand Russell or 'Elky' used to be a world champion at Starcraft, now he's a champion poker player.
what you wrote was beautiful.

A = chance of first child being a boy
B = chance of second child being a boy
P(B|A) = P(A and B)/P(A)
but both events are independent so
P(A and B) = P(A) P(B)
= 1/2 * 1/2 = 1/4
so
P(B|A) = 1/4 / 1/2 /thread
= 1/2
Same story here.
What would happen should Wikipedia hand over false information? Surely the courts wouldn't know any better.
Can Wikipedia claim it's doesn't keep IP info?

I thought the whole idea was internet being an inalienable right that no one can take away from you?
How's this the major victory?
... Seriously! It's the only way to leverage big parties policies @ the internet away from industry!
1. find contradiction in model
2. modify model slightly for exceptions
3. ??????
4. PROFIT!!!
1st post!
My editing got fucked somehow...
