"Is it legal to use the AllOfMP3 pay service in the United States (US)?
Although to our knowledge there is no direct precedent on the legality of accessing a service like ours from the US (i.e., using a legal music download service located outside of the US), we, however, do believe that there are at least several statutes, each of which, should allow users to access our service in the US; such as 17 U.S.C. 602(a) (the "Importation for Private Use Exception"); 1008, 1001 (the "iPod Exception"); 109 (the "First-Sale Doctrine/Anti-'Double-Dip' Exception"); 107, 117 (the "Fair-Use/Backup Exception"); among others."
What they are saying is that it's legal to buy it in Russia, and you're allowed to legally import paid-for music from other countries for private use only, which brings us straight back to "Is it legal in Russia?", none of which (as far as I know; IANAL) a civil American court has no jurisdiction in deciding.
I have provided empirical evidence that shows that Wikipedia strives for accuracy. You have provided anecdotal evidence that people don't agree with your opinion.
Now I can see why you stopped editing Wikipedia, and I'm sure Wikipedia thanks you for it.
I had this same problem using Opera to access a certain site.
After being informed (in no uncertain terms) that I would HAVE to use Firefox to use the site properly, I quietly took out the 'takeoverAd.php' from the site URL to be met with a pixel perfect render of the front page...
I entirely agree with you - I'm just sure that it doesn't actually matter.
What difference does it make to MS if these companies migrate instantaneously or when they have no choice? They will still upgrade, the only difference is when.
I don't know who you were calling a 'gutless prick' (seems to be yourself?), but the opinion I quoted was put forward by pretty much every respondant on this article.
Can you give me anything about the iPod that's actually innovative, rather than "Same as competitor's product but looks sexier". They stole the menu system from Creative, evidenced by the $100 million license payout, and event their own patent for 'rotational user-interface' as been constantly rejected, suggesting prior art.
This comes around a lot. IIRC it's an option and it's disabled by default.
As someone else said, use something else. I use iTunes to rip CDs and organise my music, but I don't use it to play it because it's a cloggy laggy mess.
In this instance it would be like talking to person X on company Y's premises. Company Y certainly has a right to know what is going on in their building and if it's illegal have every right to call the police about it.
Of course, this doesn't don't count, as has been evidenced by the outcry against similar proof-of-concept security holes in OS X.
I'm pretty sure the Slashdot community wouldn't be so two-faced as to claim something is an exploit on Vista which isn't 'counted' as an exploit on OS X, right?
"You need a TV Licence to use any television receiving equipment such as a TV set, set-top boxes, video or DVD recorders, computers or mobile phones to watch or record TV programmes as they are being shown on TV."
In cases where the evidence is obvious, it's a parent's fault if they send their child to a whorehouse instead of a school, and it's also someone's fault if they sent their credit card details to a random scammer instead of an online store. It's up to you to make sure what you are doing is safe and secure before anybody else's. Only after you've done all you can to ensure your safety can you even consider blaming somebody else for your 'fuckup'.
People who blame schools for their unruly kids and the internet for their own stupidity are fools regardless of situation.
You joke but this is exactly what they're going for. Don't mention Linux (it's for geeks, after all), and stick the word 'Freedom' in there to give it some good old AMERICAN BACKBONE and you've got a winner!
Just don't acknowledge the fact that:
a) No other platform limits your INTERNET FREEDOM! either, or
b) It'll take you hours to learn how to use the thing because you're not familiar with Linux.
If someone gave me an Internet Freedom Disk, I would turn it into an Internet Freedom Shuriken(tm) and go to town...
That's fair enough, but you look at it a different way than me.
I still have control over my computer even if Vista is installed. All the horror stories about Vista and DRM are nonsense perpetrated by the FSF, RMS, anyone with an agenda. Vista still allows you to do anything you like with your non-DRMed files, it just has a platform there for DRM to use if you use it, which I never will. I've also never had a problem 'figuring out' the boundaries of usage on my Windows machine: I try it, and if it doesn't work, I move on. At this moment in time however I play too many games on this computer to switch to anything else. Cedega and Transgaming just isn't there yet, and no publisher wants to support niche systems, which might be sad but is nonetheless true. That means when Vista comes around I'll invest again for the games. From what I've heard regarding Vista handling GPU technologies there are increases across the board that I can't ignore.
Regardless of any this, at any point I can turn around and say "enough" and install something else. If the things I want to do become far more important than the things I already can do, I can install Linux, or buy a Mac. They can't stop me from doing that if they tried.
I've moved my own copy of XP 3 or 4 times now to upgraded and changed computers with no problems at all, so I don't know where that's coming from to be honest.
I love that Ali Baba post that he made. It conjures up this wonderful image of this complete moron sitting in his chair, face flushed red with continuous anger at the Evil M$ Machine, mashing the keyboard with his crusade against The Oppressors.
I mean, it didn't even make sense when you read the parent, it was just this wild tangent, a drunken frat boy fumbling with the difficult bra-fasteners of conversational English, struggling to maintain relevancy with his brain addled with his perceived injustice against the FOSS community.

Straight from AllofMP3:
"Is it legal to use the AllOfMP3 pay service in the United States (US)?

Really? Then you might have to edit the Five Pillars of Wikipedia page to remove this sentence:
"All articles must follow our no original research policy and strive for accuracy"
I mean, if accuracy isn't part of their mission then there's no reason that all their articles must strive to be accurate, right?

Because half the things that are wrong with this fucking planet can be boiled down to "Well they did it first so it must be okay"?
I don't know who you were calling a 'gutless prick' (seems to be yourself?), but the opinion I quoted was put forward by pretty much every respondant on this article.
Hardly imaginary.
Are you kidding? That's all Apple have ever done!

And no, looking sexier is not an innovation.

That was the best analogy I've seen on this site in a long time...
I'm pretty sure you've been reading a different website to this one if you think Linux isn't being rammed down anyone's throat ;)
You could be seeing a departure from Slashdot of those who were only here because they had nowhere else to go.
Maybe the Digg and Slashdot audiences don't overlap very much, but because Digg didn't exist people came here anyway.
Then again, I don't know how people work (or at least, I try not to find out...)
That's not comparable.
In this instance it would be like talking to person X on company Y's premises. Company Y certainly has a right to know what is going on in their building and if it's illegal have every right to call the police about it.
That's my view, anyway.
Of course, this doesn't don't count, as has been evidenced by the outcry against similar proof-of-concept security holes in OS X.

Right?
Mick and Mack: Global Gladiators?
They already are covered.
"You need a TV Licence to use any television receiving equipment such as a TV set, set-top boxes, video or DVD recorders, computers or mobile phones to watch or record TV programmes as they are being shown on TV."
Sorry.
Did exactly the same with me and Opera. Crashed the browser, restarted and it worked fine.
What an oddity.
How about a slice?

now that they don't allow people to take their copy of the OS with them when they upgrade the machine
You need to keep up. They rewrote that part of the agreement.
The answer was in the article.
According to [Trend Micro CTO Raimund] Genes

Simple as that.
Apparently the big news is that GOOGLE PWNT M$, apparently by doing exactly what MS intended people to do.
Yeah, I don't get it either.
