The warming of the planet melts ice. That water can stop the conveyor in the Atlantic Ocean that warms the northern hemisphere. When the northern hemisphere cools it will result in an ice age. This is what they mean when they say the climate is fragile and even a few degree change can be catastrophic for humans. So the result of global warming can be an ice age.
I am sure there are a non-trivial amount of people in the U.S willing to take arms to stop this nonsense. However the problem is organization. The US military and gov. are very organized. A bunch of angry people with guns aren't. So I think just "going down to the capitol" is not the right thing to do. Getting people active and organized is.
Maybe, my mother would certainly have been better off without me, and way more successful. I would certainly be far more wealthy, both money and free time, without my kids. However until you have kids of your own you will never really know. I dreaded the thought of having kids. It was the last thing I wanted and thought my life was over. Now that a few years have passed and I have a boy and a girl I realize how enriching the experience is. One quote I read a long time ago stands true today for me, "You never truly know what love is until you have children." You can call this post-purchase rationalization all you want but until you experience what I have you won't really know.
You are so correct! Maybe this is the thing we need for people to truly open their eyes and see there is nearly 0 difference in the two. All of you/. people with your "soap, ballot, jury, ammo.... use in this order" sigs, which box are on now? I know what box I think we should be on. Which brings us to the underlying problem. I don't find it important enough to disrupt "my" life. Until people in America start to look beyond themselves we will never be beyond these issues.
A radio talk show host in the SF Bay Area is in court on charges of child porn. His excuse was that he was researching a book. I guess he could have been doing that but either way it is not good enough and he was indicted by a grand jury and will go to trial. Many people think he is being wrongly accused, I personally think he is a perv. You can research things, including child porn, without downloading it to have a local copy.
I hope your right. They should be lining the highways/freeways with the stuff and cutting it down to use. What better land to use than the land around where it is needed. Couple that with regional processing plants and we are stepping in the right direction. Think about the amount of land not being used along all the state and federal highways in the U.S. I would like to know that number in acres. I know that amount of land is probably less than 1% of what would be needed to fuel transportation in the U.S. Well I don't know but it is probably close. Certainly less than say 5%? Anyone with more info on that subject please post to correct my speculation.
Brazil grows sugar cane and started back in the 70's. It is only in the past 5 or 10 years that they became energy independent so it took them decades. I am sure they had all sorts of growing pains but they should be commended for doing it. We should be doing it for the same reasons. Better to use a renewable fuel where we can and save the oil for what we really need it for. Moms SUV is not really a need to me. She can have ethanol or swift fuel.
Your right that it can be grown on land that is not used for food and grow very well there. I think the problem is that the people who do grow food might stand to make more money growing switchgrass so then the land for food will be used anyways. I know if I was a farmer and had a chance to make more money growing a weed I would be all over it. I might be wrong in that. It might not make them more money it is just the first thing that popped in my mind.
According to the definition of sexual relations in that trial he didn't have any with Monica. He was impeached. If we are impeaching presidents for having sex/cheating on wives then Bush and Co. should be drawn and quartered.
That is probably true as well. Although it is Bush who does the press conferences. It is Bush who signs his name. So no matter what Cheney "tells" him to do that is at best hear say. That could never hold up in any court as valid evidence. The outing of Valerie Plame (spelling?) was a good chance for them to go after Cheney. Unfortunately they put out their sacrificial lamb and the Congress accepted it. Then Bush all but pardoned him. Why this is allowed to continue I will never know. They "leaked" state secrets and put in danger out national security. That calls for a hanging in my book.
You are absolutely right about him being a figurehead. Bush couldn't think up, much less pull off the things that have happened since he took office. All of this notwithstanding, he is the President. He took an oath. Therefore, whether or not he is directly responsible, he should be held accountable.
It is not hard to make a decent pizza. It is very hard to make a decent pizza while maintaining a decent profit margin. Or perhaps it is only hard on that scale. Seems all the local spots make at least halfway decent pizza while chains couldn't make a pie to save their life!
Those are good points although I think the comparison to a wheel chair ramp is not quite the same. I absolutely agree that a worker should never be put into an unsafe work environment against their will. Although I still think it is unfair to have the state decide how a business owner can conduct their chosen business. I personally think in a "free market" the person runnign the business should be able to decide how to run it. Not the state. This might make that business a place that someone like you would/could not go but then that business person is losing business because of the way they do run their business. If they choose to ignore a segment of the market and lose money for a reason like cigarettes then they should be allowed to.
I think his point about smoking was that a building owner cannot decide whether or not to cater to smokers. Why can't the business owner decide if they want to allow smoking and then if smoking bothers you don't go there. Instead it has to be banned and taxed. A business owner should be allowed to have a business that caters to smokers. For the record I do not smoke. I used to though.
Saying I missed the obvious and calling me stupid is meaningful? I asked a question and you decided I was trying to make some point and act smart. So you attacked me. Others in the thread have replied without attacking me. Anyways my questions were in reply to SatanicPuppy and he even replied without attacking me and saying I am stupid. So gimme a break on the meaningful response crap. Also why post AC? I am not afraid to backup my position or talk about it. Why are you?
I think you are taking what I said wrong. I am not talking about Fossett. I am only speaking hypothetically about me. I don't know anything about that guy really so I cannot say. I just really don't agree that the burden be put on his family because he went missing....
dang..... I know they have the ability. Do you find it invigorating to come here and try to look smart by pointing out the obvious? I was actually asking looking for meaningful responses....
I had thought to rephrase it in case you misunderstood. I think that would be a waste of my time. Not everyone who asks a question has something to prove asshole.
100 years ago your family and friends looked for you. Those that loved you. When exactly did it become the responsibility of the state to come look for me when I am lost? I think it's kinda weird. If I go get lost and die it is my problem. Why is the burden put on my family that I am an idiot? Children are another matter though.....
All I can say about the black album is when it came out I thought it was complete rubbish. Now many years later after seeing where they were going with it I realize that is was an ok album. Still nowhere near Kill 'em all or Ride the lightning. Master of puppets was the pinnacle of their creativity and is to this day heralded as one of the greatest, if not the greatest thrash album ever. This album stands in greatness next to such albums as Reign in Blood and Bonded by Blood. So for me, watching such genius fall to the likes of Load and Re-Load, and seeing these guys turn away from those who made them who they are makes them the unforgiven.
As for the topic. I don't think there is anything Metallica could do at this point to get me to listen to them. I wouldn't waste the bandwidth to steal or download for free any of their music. I prefer to remember them the way they were.
The amount of record sales does not determine if an album is good or not. The listener decides that when he or she listens to it. I really wish more people would listen to music with that in mind. Just because an album sells 10 million copies does not make it good. It makes it a commercial success... If people would make up their own minds rather than following the trends and allowing the industry to tell them what they like, we would have a very different music industry today.

EDIT:
The line should have read: "I don't find it important enough to disrupt "my" life."
For the record, I do.

I ain't got time to bleed....
Just remember if you keep a bat in your car to keep a glove and ball. Plausible deniability.....
