Well I am certainly not going to cite anything but I will say this in response. When I am going down 280 on the peninsula at 65 and everyone is whizzing past me at 75 I am a hazard. I might be the one following the rules but it is easy to see that I am the one causing the problem. Although I am following the 'law', it easier for an accident to happen simply because the other drivers have to actively avoid me.
This is only my observation and not a scientific study!
I agree with what you are saying, but I think of education, and more so higher education, as something more than training for a given profession. Gaining and education helps one to have broader, higher level understanding of the world we are in, and that can contribute to a countries people lifting themselves out of poverty. Ultimately that is what it is about. Exactly what someone up the thread said, "teach them to fish, so to speak." (I am too lazy to go see who said it.)
This is exactly why I liked projects like OLPC. It is naive to think that we can drop laptops on a bunch of kids in third world countries and it will fix their problems, but it plants the seed so that in time they can grow as a people. That is what was important about it.
The fact that western corporations can go there and open sweat shops is "the problem." I don't agree that we should enforce western values on anyone, even the west. The only thing we should be doing in these countries is helping them learn to solve the problems they have. Not providing a solution for them.
This point is important, except that it is exceptionally hypocritical to outlaw slavery in our home countries while supporting it abroad. I know it's not technically slavery but it is in many ways. I think 9 year olds should be in school, not a sweat shop.
Well as cliche as this may sound...... I have been through customs/TSA many times coming to/from America. I was in a touring metal band. I can say first hand that how you dress and things like if you are clean shaved and look somewhat conservative matters a lot! The guys I was with would have evil shirts on and dirty clothes and not even try. Well, I would wait for them outside customs while they got searched. In some cases, putting your hair back and speaking respectfully with a smile can go a long way.
1. The California Constitution, Article III Section 3.5 (c) states: "An
administrative agency...has no power. . . (c) To declare a statute
unenforceable, or to refuse to enforce a statute on the basis that
federal law or federal regulations prohibit the enforcement of such
statute unless an appellate court has made a determination that the
enforcement of such statute is prohibited by federal law or federal
regulations."
3. The California Constitution, Article V Section 13 states: "It shall
be the duty of the Attorney General to see that the laws of the State
are...adequately enforced."
What I don't get is this. When driving down the road you are moving air past your car quickly like wind. Why can't some of that be funneled in somewhere to turn a wind generator and add that energy to the batteries. Obviously for an electric car trhat we don't really have yet. Hybrids maybe. Now I am no engineer in fluid mechanics or electrical engineering and I think this would introduce additional drag on the vehicle, but certainly it could be controlled to a point as to be a net gain in total miles from an initial charge? Hopefully someone on this site with more insight than myself could elaborate on such a systems efficiencies or lack thereof.
Those are good points but there is 1 technology (I guess you call it that) that can help in any region. If the name of the game is using less energy, then Superinsulation is certainly something ALL homes should be using.
I could be wrong on this and probably am, but isn't wireless-N just 2 wireless-G channels bonded together? If this is accurate then the tech exists. It just may not exist in an easily digestible capsule. Although the bonded G channels would be through the same device so maybe using 2 different devices would be the problem......
He may be an option like Nader was on option to get Bush in office. I like what Bob Barr has become but I hate where he came from. He has changed many of his policies recently for the better but that almost frightens me more. What might he become with power......
I thought polar bears live on ice. Or at least hunt there. Could it also be that they are running away from the melting ice?
I think there are a lot of arguments to support both sides of this and that science really needs to determine what is going on. Human caused or not. It would be helpful if administrations like the current one in the US would not stifle research that contradicts their policies.
Well, based on that article the truth is that the glaciers on Mt. Shasta in Northern
California are growing but is an anomaly compared to the rest of the world.
Warmer temperatures have cut the number of glaciers at Montanaâ(TM)s Glacier National Park from 150 to 26 since 1850, and some scientists project there will be none left within 25 to 30 years.
Itâ(TM)s a different story at Mount Shasta, at the southern end of the Cascades and about 60 miles south of the Oregon border.
Scientists say a warming Pacific Ocean means more moist air sweeping over far Northern California. Because of Shastaâ(TM)s location and 14,162-foot elevation, the precipitation is falling as snow, adding to the mass of the mountainâ(TM)s glaciers.
By comparison, the glaciers in the Sierra Nevada, about 560 miles south of Mount Shasta, are exposed to warmer temperatures and are retreating.
So your statement of "all over the world" is not entirely accurate. Most glaciers in N. America are shrinking and because of weather patterns in the Pacific these are actually growing.
I guess the truth does suck..... This truth from your own citation....
I only asked for more info because I am open to the discussion. Most info I see says they are all shrinking and everyone is screaming the sky is falling. I understand many scientists say that the globe is warming and as a result ice is melting but I did want to read some info counter to that. If that makes me foolish then so be it. I am not a ask a question to prove a point person. Too bad facial expression and tone of voice don't exist in typewritten words.
I would like it if you could provide some citation or documentation showing that the glaciers of the world are growing. I understand that in the winter they probably tend to grow more but I mean overall. Year to year growth. Like in the context that you just used.
I should have qualified my post. That info was sent to me off the Obama mailing list asking him to vote against the FISA bill. I did not validate the data.....

For the government as an entity this may be so. However, the individuals that are our elected officials are not. I will not believe, ever, that if the president does it the it isn't illegal. Didn't work for Nixon so why is it working now?
Maybe the FBI.... I started work at a new company a while back and they had an FTP server that was fully compromised, had an IRC server on it, and there was evidence of credit card numbers being traded on it. I immediately disconnected it from the network and called the FBI. They didn't care and said to just format the computer..... I was shocked to say the least. So they might help, or they might say buy a new computer.

We could do it without flight if everyone in the US pitched in about 90K USD. If Europe got on board that number could be reduced.

Kinda like the dentist near where I live. Dr. Plack. I always liked that.
That's ok. My first son was born on Oct. 11th 2001. 10-11-01 A True binary birthday!
Prop 215 was about medical marijuana. Prop 215 was mentioned in the lawsuit because of the way AG Lundgren treated prop 215.
Anyways, I was replying to the point about state law taking precedence.
This point was addressed in the way the AG was not defending prop 215. A state law.
From a case about Prop 215:
1. The California Constitution, Article III Section 3.5 (c) states: "An
administrative agency...has no power. . . (c) To declare a statute
unenforceable, or to refuse to enforce a statute on the basis that
federal law or federal regulations prohibit the enforcement of such

enforcement of such statute is prohibited by federal law or federal
regulations."
3. The California Constitution, Article V Section 13 states: "It shall
be the duty of the Attorney General to see that the laws of the State
are...adequately enforced."
