Vista and Microsoft is irrelavent? I suppose that's how Microsoft posted 9.74 Billion in revenue in Q1 06 which is a 7% increase year-over-year? That all occuring without Vista and Office 2007...am I missing something?

Google also has a huge advertising network backing it, as well as contract with media companies. Soon I wouldn't be surprised to see adsense video ads for Google Video, so that it would be much like blogger and would ensure more quality content. From my understanding Youtube is not yet profitable, however Google Video is.

I wouldn't say that's 100% true. Sure enthusiasts build their own, but take this parallel: Car enthusiasts don't always (just) have a really nice hot rod; sometimes they have a Ferrari/Bentley/Lamborghini too...I can build my own, and still enjoy a computer built by a company such as Alienware, Voodoo PC and Falcon NW.

Does anyone find it funny that Rahul Sood mocked the Alienware purchase by Dell, and now we have this? I guess his mocking of the "creative" name mix of Dell + Alienware = Dellienware will now bite him in the butt with the newly named HooPoo.

I don't believe that Google is going to eliminate the Froogle brand. I agree Google Base is a horrible name, in which has no meaning at least to an average user. Perhaps monetization of Froogle and Base into Google will be interest on Google's initial brand investment. As far as I know Froogle is not very popular at the moment.

  6. Re:my school on Students Protest Turnitin.com · · Score: 1

I agree that public schools hinder society more than they assist it. Considering the current public school system was developed for the 70s, it is definitely time to scrap it and start fresh. My schooling experience was very similar, I fell victim to the "No child left behind". The problem with this system is that students that don't care or don't take their future into consideration hold back the students that want to succeed. The slow pace that is a result of this creates a washing out of students. I would say that both students and teachers are at equal fault for this effect, in part because of what I mentioned before, some students just don't care.

  7. In-Game Advertising on Microsoft To Enable User-Created Xbox 360 Games · · Score: 1

Does anyone else see the fact that Microsoft much like with Google's adsense with web developers, could capitalize off of game creators with advertising? Microsoft could implement their in-game advertising into this program, giving developers a small cut; which in the end means more money (for Microsoft and the developer), and more developer motivation. I think such a move could spell a tremendous new outlook to small game developement. Does anyone else see the same happening?

"If it was true that you don't see such destructive security breeches on these other OSs because they are not popular, then why don't we see the same on servers running Linux/BsdUnix etc."

Because servers are not as easy of targets as a consumer PC, let's not forget the fact that most Servers are behind Cisco Firewalls, with competent users...which sadly most of the consumer PC market does not have.

"How about producing an OS that don't catch viruses?"

A virus can be written for any Operating System, or software for that matter, it's a matter of motive.

"Further proof if that were necessary, that that MS is lacks the expertise to produce a secure Operating System."

So Symantec lacks the expertise to build a good firewall because they offer a virus scanner?...I mean that is your logic right?

For starters, Google as an investment isn't exactly loved by Wall Street it's P/E ratio of 57.09 is despised, especially in the slowing U.S. economy. When it comes to click fraud, I would say from personal experience that they [Google] are very strict in their policies. If you want to see click fraud at it's highest with little policy enforement look no further than Yahoo!s Publisher program...here is an example of click promotion with Yahoo!'s program.
