    Oh, so you're advocating punching people that are 90 years and older? Me, I'd hope that any crimes they've committed have already been assessed and appropriate justice served.

    Just that, if you're using the term to mean anybody younger than that then you're clearly not talking about WWII or the holocaust.

    Even in 1945 I don't think it would be appropriate to punch someone purely because they were a nazi party member. Which crimes did they commit, and how about applying some justice there.

    Arbitrary violence is not justice.

    Well, I was saying that was an abusive act that should be illegal. I'm saying that a woman stood being interviewed getting assaulted is an abusive act that is illegal.

    Yeah, I don't have a Reddit account or post there because the whole moderation approach works to prevent actual discussion and conversation.

    I do occasionally find useful posts via Google though when researching things.

    Yeah. At a societal level keeping them in plain sight is beneficial, but why should Reddit have to deal with the content, behaviour and responses involved.

    Well, apart from Reddit's blindness to comparable content and behaviour from people representing other parts of the political spectrum.

    I think violence to prevent harm is generally accepted. It's when you find out two days later and kill him that it's a crime, rather than if you come home mid-act.

    I did. The actions of my cats are insured.

    It's rare that I need to claim on an insurance policy, but they've always paid out when I have.

    I've trained mine. "Come on, time to decide" now results in a commitment, one way or the other.

    Having a catflap helps avoid the downsides of a poor choice either way though.

    That's a pretty solid piece of evidence.

    I'm reluctant to decry the science behind that evidence, but I'm much more reluctant to allow prosecution on the grounds, "You should have had a heart attack and you didn't"

    If the other evidence is adequate to demonstrate illegal activity then prosecute. Pacemaker records should not be required or relevant.

    So you support making insurance a non-viable proposition, thus exposing everybody to permanent unavoidable loss in the event of incidents beyond their control?

    I can't afford to rebuild my home if it burns down in a fire. I should become homeless if one of my cats turns on the cooker and burns down the house while I'm at work?

    Me, I'd rather have the safety net provided by the insurance policy I took out. You appear to prefer that I die starving in the cold. Thanks.

    I don't support the death penalty even for people I'd personally happily kill because the death penalty is inherently flawed and the moment you start making exceptions you step irrevocably away from the concept of justice.

    I refuse to buy Apple devices because they're locked down. That hasn't stopped millions of idiots buying them, and as a result skewing the market so that some software or other features are only available on Apple devices.

    If I refuse to buy a Windows 10 device because it's locked down, that wont stop millions of idiots from buying one anyway, and skewing the market so that the games I want to play are only available on Windows 10 devices.

    My options here are very limited.

    I've noticed that a lot of Europeans seem to think Europe is a country these days. Ask them where they are from and they say "Europe."

    That's a non-sequitur. I am from Europe, but Europe is not a country. I am not from the UK but the UK is a country. I am not from Scotland but Scotland is a country.

    I am British and I am European.

    This causes me no confusion at all, or those around me.

    Actually most of them are probably plastic. But if you do want to limit it to watches that cost more than say $2k then it's a more interesting comparison.

    Most of them may still have steel cases, but the case isn't the expensive bit. Many of them will have cases made from other materials, including variants on gold, titanium or other metals. Even there though.. the case isn't the expensive bit.

    There's nothing special about mechanical watches. They are outdated technology rebranded as jewelry

    Outdated? Watch manufacturers are still inventing new materials so that they can advance the state of the technology. There is cutting edge research in this space, and just because you don't understand or appreciate it does not make it outdated.

    I don't wear my sub-$10k mechanical watch (with its titanium case/bracelet) because it's jewellery, I wear it because I want something on me that can tell me the time. It does this, and does it bloody well, and does it using seriously fucking impressive engineering.

    It doesn't have a soul and it's not as accurate as my rather cheaper solar powered Citizen watch. It has no magical meaning. I still like it, I didn't buy it because of marketing, I don't have to plug it in to charge it and it is pretty fucking special.
