    Normally they add value on this site but the astro-turfing has been far too immense on this particular issue and I just don't trust anything posted entirely anonymously.

    Pseudonymous posters at least have a posting history I can use to determine their relative reliability.

    Titanium does not have any special strength vs weight. It is slightly below Steel and slightly above aluminium. But at the end of the day they are all basically the same

    Which is why we make aircraft out of aluminium or titanium, and use steel where strength is more important than weight.

    I almost agree. It's not so much that I'm not one in real life, it's that societal norms prevent me from properly expressing my feelings.

    However, I do tend to use gender, sexual preference and racially neutral terms and insults online.

    "Fuckwit" is universal, unless playing with someone that has a genuine learning disability in which case it may be merely accurate.

    Incidentally, I don't see women being paid less for equal hours/effort/experience/seniority/skill and I don't see them ridiculed any more than men for it.

    I've never been asked O(N) at interview. Maybe things work differently in the UK.

    I'd sidestep the question anyway. Who gives a shit about the performance of that one algorithm, other factors will influence system speed and responsiveness far more.

    In fact, if the primary reason you're recruiting is because you have one mission-critical algorithm that you need highly optimising and the rest of the architecture is solid, then you don't need me anyway. Hire a fresh computer science graduate on a contract for four months.

    I recently had a conversation..

    Cop: "Do you know what the speed limit here is?"
    Me, reading the speed limit sign behind him: "Yes, 50mph"
    Cop: "How fast were you going?"
    Me: "About 50"
    Cop: "No, you weren't. We had to do 80mph to catch up with you"

    At this point I kept quiet. They'd put their lights on half a mile behind me.

    After that little chat (and no ticket) I pulled away while he was still walking back to his car. Cruise control on at 50 to assure compliance. A quarter of a mile later, they pulled me over again. This time the driver got out.

    Cop 2: "Why would you do that?"
    Me: "Do what?"
    Cop 2: "Go over the limit, knowing we were right behind you?"
    Me: "Do you really think I'd be that stupid?"
    Cop 2: "Well, I don't know you.."
    Fair point.
    Me: "I was driving at 50mph. I had cruise control on."
    Cop 2: "No. We had to do 65mph to catch up with you."

    At this point I'm so proud that I didn't laugh, didn't mock her, didn't get out of the car and fucking slap her for being so bloody stupid.

    Oddly enough, still no ticket.

    Yeah, I had a requirements doc come through, attached to an email stating "This is a great set of requirements - nothing stopping us designing a solution now!"

    One Excel based mockup of a screenshot and mention of six data sources that would need to be integrated.

    Nothing about the data needed, or even what three of those data sources were. Nothing about data transforms, quality, enrichment, matching, de-duplication, survivorship. Nothing about screen functionality, user interactions, configurability. Nothing about availability, user numbers, scalability, performance.

    Next thing I know I'm being called a 'blocker' and 'unresponsive' for asking for a little more information before we engage a third party to build a solution.

    It all ended well. Third party engaged, CFO happy, idiotic ignorant manager playing political games firmly slapped, my team publicly thanked as being instrumental to success.

    Still not sure it'll deliver though - still no fucking requirements. But there's a limit to how much you can mitigate risk..
