    There's a massive difference between rendering correctly and readably, and looking good.

    The mass market rejected the usable in favour of the pretty, and we all have to suffer as a result. Make your site render properly on small devices and people will bitch that it isn't the same as the desktop version, it's the wrong colour, the fucking bunnies stopped hopping along the bottom of the screen.

    (judging from the pictures) if you hit at the wrong angle, you can cause the cardboard to collapse by twisting and falling over rather than crushing

    I'd (very possibly wrongly) assumed that a honeycomb structure would be three dimensional to address this risk?

    Time does come into it. Your brain is not solidly set in your head. When your skull stops moving, it takes time for your brain to stop moving; if the difference is too great then the brain bounces off the hard bits and gets damaged.

    Making the transition from 'fast' to 'stopped' take a little longer gives the internal cushioning within the skull more time to do its thing and prevent the contents getting damaged.

    In this country white men are bottom of the list for social housing. Men get fucked over by the courts. Men get worse healthcare and die younger. Men are practically excluded from some professions. Men get lower passrates at exams. Men are more likely to be physically assaulted. Men retire at an older age. Men don't get support when they're the victims of domestic abuse (and men under 25 are more likely to be victims than women under 25).

    Yet I'm meant to be fucking happy because I can go out and work 60 hours to pay higher fucking taxes than women?

    Yeah, more predictable and usually more space to maneuvre too.

    I hate using my brakes on motorways as it often indicates that either I'm driving badly, or someone else has fucked up and forced other drivers to avoid them. I get pissed off by both scenarios.

    The car is capable, but that doesn't mean I have to use that capability.

    It actually translates to not needing full power to start moving, or to accelerate normally, but having spare capacity available when I need to gain speed quickly - merging into traffic or overtaking a slower vehicle.

    I can spin my wheels (in an automatic, without dropping gear, with traction control on) and I still get 40 to the gallon while driving at high speeds. On long journeys in heavy traffic I get over 50. What's your point exactly?

    I'd start with http://dailymail.co.uk/ and get the whole site blocked.

    Move on to the Guardian (Extremist), the Telegraph (Extremist), the Sun (Pornographic) and the Mirror (not suitable for children).

    I'd add in websites attached to any religions (all guilty of child abuse) and obviously all political parties (as they're extremist, and trying to subvert the democractic process).

    Basically the more of the internet to which the blocks prevent access, the more likely they are to be turned off.

    You don't have to take the job being 'forced' onto you. It's just that the Government wont continue to hand out cash to you if you don't.

    The conversation goes along the lines of

    No, it's not illegal to offer an unfiltered connection in the UK. The IWF blacklist is an opt-in choice for ISPs. There are some small ISPs that haven't opted in.

    If you need a manager to provide non-technical input and options then you're too remote from your user community.

    Work with your users. If you can, sit with them. Call them up. Share your plans, your problems, your ideas. Listen to theirs. Always look for a non-technical answer first - don't automate process step X, find a way of not needing it in the first place.

    A good manager is extremely valuable but not a suitable substitute for proper communications and engagement with people outside of your immediate team.

    Perhaps the vendors are targeted because they have weaker security than the banks - both the issuers and acquirers.

    The banks are already being targeted, continually. Eventually someone will succeed, but banks and card providers spend an awfully large amount of time, money and effort in making sure they aren't the first one.

    Anyway, why go for a card company? Sure Visa or Mastercard would be the motherlode? Of course, they too have data security at the top of their requirements list for any new systems.
