  1. why code samples??? on How To Show Code Samples? · · Score: 2, Insightful

Ya know, I went out to a bar once and saw this beautiful blue-eyed brunette. Got her a few drinks and one thing led to another...she did not ask me to enumerate which chicks i've been with - she just expected me to make her a woman...

    you get the picture

Being asked for code samples in an interview is bullshit. It has never happened to me.

Go find another employer, one who will discuss previous projects, pitfalls, solutions, science, the passion behind what you like to do and what you'd bring to the organization, stuff that demonstrates your ability and skill. No need to kiss and tell.

closed, or even at an angle. Also, during very hot days, when you you use (waist) the extra watts on your AC, you don't want the sun heating up your room (coming in from your wide open window). Win-win.

  4. Ruby + yaml, datamapper on F/OSS Flat-File Database? · · Score: 1

Many have suggested yaml, which can obviosuly be read on any programming language.

You are obviously going to invest some time on coding the persistance layer of your app. Take a look at http://datamapper.org/, an ORM for ruby. If you need a more scalable or robust data storage system in the future, just get another adapter (for a DBMS, for instance) and change zero code.

This would work on any OS, and from the sound of it pretty much solves your problem...except for the "having to learn ruby" if you don't already do.

    OLPC espouses five core principles:
    1. Child ownership
    2. Low ages. The hardware and software are designed for elementary school children aged 6-12.
    3. Saturation
    4. Connection
    5. Free and open source
How is this free and open source? Are these principles that flexible?

With these credit card enabled parking meters, how are you going to know that this would be legal version.

Well, I guess you really couldn't. You fall into the same problem as online payments... Laws around this would have to be well thought of. The city + credit card companies would have to give you some sort of assurance.

Also have all those super-friendly "parking ticket officers", who's job just got so much easier, check the meters periodically.

  12. instead of cellphone... on Top off Your Parking Meter with a Cell Call · · Score: 1

I personally don't have a car, but I've heard people complaint about not having enough change. It's a pain in the arse. Why they haven't implemented a credit card system? Beats me! Imagine the scenario: 1. Park your car. 2. Swipe your card. 3. Enter a pin code (make it hard to guess) 4. Go do your thing, forget about the meter. 5. Come back to meter and enter code from step 3. 6. Get reciept printed out of meter. 7. Drive away without a parking ticket. Unless you are a moron and entered "9999" as your code, this could work.
