    GIMP is a horrible name for a program. Look at definition 2 of the word gimp:

    gimp2 (gmp) pronunciation Slang.
    n.

          1. A limp or a limping gait.
          2. A person who limps.

    intr.v., gimped, gimping, gimps.

    To walk with a limp.


    Not the best association to have for a program that's supposed to kill Photoshop. Not that it even comes close to doing that anyway.

    I use Windows XP on my laptop every day. It never BSOD's on me, or gives me much bullshit. It's nowhere near perfect, but nowhere near unusable for me either. I use Firefox, not IE, FYI. Can someone link me a site that lists just how broken Windows really is, because I don't see it.

    I just tried it in Firefox 2.0RC2, Opera 9.02, and IE, and Firefox was the fastest.

    You don't need an extension for that; in userChrome.css add this code, changing the number if you want: /* resize search bar */

    You just shouldn't use tables for stuff like columns.
    Why, do they not work right? Is there some IE quirk or bug I should worry about? Will children die if I use them? I just made a simple page using tables for equal height columns in about 10 minutes, and it works the same in Firefox, Opera and IE. All 3 columns end at exactly the same place. There is only one table in the document, and no spacer gifs. It is styled using CSS. The document uses a strict XHTML doctype, and validates as such. I never understood why using tables to layout a page was considered a bad thing.

    Agreed, but I like the current layout with these mods I made better. Makes it more consistent and sharp.

    For instance, my installation of Acrobat eats up a large chunk memory just for loading, and doesn't let it go after I navigate away from the page. The PDF Download extension helps, but it isn't perfect. Try the Foxit PDF Reader http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php It loads instantly.
