    There were 8 of us, so someone would be able to drive and this cabin was right on the road... We've done the cabins where you hike a half mile into the woods uphill before but our middle-aged bones don't carry camping gear uphill like they used to...

    I rented a primitive cabin in NH this winter where there was no cell service within 10 miles. We had no power, plumbing - just a wood stove.

    And it was fantastic...

    Slower hasn't been my experience - at least in the last two updates.

    I updated my mom's 2011 MacBook Air with the release before Mojave and it actually got faster...

    I can't say I've noticed any slowdown with Mojave either.

    Plenty of state schools and the like also have world class professors.... At UMass I took AI with Andrew Barto who's co-authored the go-to text book for machine learning.

    I took discrete math with Neil Immerman who proved NL=CoNL.

    I took Abstract Algebra with Arunas Rudvalis who discovered one of the finite simple groups.

    Not exactly intellectual slouches!

    You'd be surprised. If you go and search on YouTube, there are some close-call accidents for where the jumper pulled low or had a the reserve tangle with their main and came down hard but survived....

    I find the NY Times credible, yes.

    For example, I often watch alot of primary source material (watch the actual press briefing live) and when I read the account in the times, it matches what I observed - this leads me to believe that they are engaging in real journalism.

    UMass has in the past 20 years made the program a little easier. You only need through calc II now. You don't need to take physics 1 and 2, you can take your choice from several electives. The grumpy old emeritus that used to fail everyone out of the first 200 level class has long since retired..

    How many are dropping out when they find out whats involved with the major or don't make it through the weeder classes? I got my degree in 2002, at the time UMass had about 300-400 incoming CS majors and graduated 50 students a year.

    Many many people who come in without pre-existing self interest and self exploration find the subject too dull or too hard to make it.

    ...And even if the proof is were constructive, why would knowing prime locations allow for you to factor semi-primes (the product of two primes)?

    You might know where the primes are but theres still jillions to check when you're talking about 1024bit numbers....
