    I love Cyanogen, which is why I hope they never pair it with a phone. Call me paranoid, but I'm convinced a lot of effort which now goes into supporting a wide range of phones will then be diverted into their "own" phone. A cool phone potentially, but only potentially, and at the cost of choice.

    Don't get me wrong, they have every right to do that. Hell, they could even become a closed brand and make loads of money if the wanted, but I hope they don't.

    I know Americans aren't very welcome in NK, and also barred from doing business by the US gov., but this doesn't apply to Asian's and Europeans. While there probably aren't 500.000 expats in NK, there are certainly 10's of thousands and they do appreciate having a mobile phone. I suspect many sign up for 3G as well.

    The REALITY is that zones in China where population control was not used (for reference purposes) did not produce more children than zones where it was used and enforced strictly. The REALITY is you can control population without force, simply by providing other essentials (work, education, etc.). The REALITY is we just need to be smart about this and engineer a society, not a population.

    This happens all the time though. In our manufacturing we're often asked to treat our products with chemicals that could add certain benefits. Customers make it quite clear though that we should only treat it to the extend required by the claim, e.g. "treated with XYZ, an ABC-purpose agent". They're not actually interested in having XYZ work to the point where it gets to ABC.

    It costs Apple money because it provides an inconsistent experience. As an iPhone user I want all my apps to function in the same way. I only tried Kindle because it runs on my iPhone. I would never deal with their ugly website.

    Exactly. I don't see why they whine about it though. There are tons of reasons why a start-up may fail, and many do indeed not make it. Nothing wrong with that. The dependency on Apple must've been a calculated risk that they decided to take.

    Likewise the easybake bakes only at a fixed temperature that works well only for the easybake mix. Sure it could be set to another temperature if the manufacturer allowed, but that's not the point.

    Agreed. A lot of people don't use Linux hoping to become a hacker. They just use it because we nerds recommended it to them and well, e-mail and Internet seems to work just as well as when it did on Windows.

    Sorry to hear you went through that. The question is though, are you comfortable asking 999 other people to undergo tests, use unnecessary and potentially dangerous medication, waste their time and feel generally unhealthy if that would give you only a chance at shortening those 5 years?

    Why are you checking the profile of that hot former classmate daily, yet not sending her any messages? Are you stalking her Mr. Syousef? You are aware stalking is illegal, are you not? How come your friends all checked in a Pizza Hut last Friday but you didn't? We know you were there and usually do check in when you are. What made you do differently this time Mr. Syousef? Mr. Syousef, why did you post a picture of a hamburger on April 20th, stating you were enjoying lunch at Burger King, while the picture's meta information clearly shows it was taken two days earlier, on April 18th. Ladies & gentlemen, are we seeing a pattern here?

    Really? That pic my buddy posted of a huge burger with a text referencing me does include geo information and timestamp. That info does put us in a burger place 20 mins prior to a crime on the next door parking lot. That could cause the police to harass us even though we didn't see anything useful. Etc. That police isn't currently harvesting and using this information is simply an issue of cost and regulation, both which can change with relative ease over the next couple of years.

    That's assuming the database stays in the hands of Facebook and/or your government only and that neither of them ever turns into terrorists. That's a rather naive assumption. Databases get hack; see Sony. Governments turn terrorist on their people; see history.

    Eh. Perhaps Facebook doesn't decide, but my friends sure do. They post shit all the time that implicates me as participating in certain activities and being in certain places. And that's without me ever using Facebook myself.

    An arrest warrant is not a conviction. The person under arrest is only potentially a child pornographer. And so is everyone else you see walking on the street. The concept that someone is innocent until proven guilty is a very important one. Cops choose to be cops. Innocent people do not choose to be treated like criminals. Their's nothing wrong with the cops being more at risk in this scenario than the innocent guy.

    Indeed. His argument doesn't make much sense. I bet it's easier/cheaper/faster for the Chinese to come up with a few US-specific mills than vice versa. (And the same could be true for other industries.)

    Where did he say sugar is evil? He went out of his wat to explain that glucose and the fructose+fiber combo are extremely safe. His only claim is that fructose by itself is treated more like alcohol, from a biochemical standpoint, than it is like glucose.

    Explain why active 6-months old toddlers are getting obese. This is how he starts the video. This is what triggered him to question the calorie story and search an alternative cause.

    According to the video extreme amounts of glucose are not harmful. In fact it points to deceases which cause this but which are not lethal. (Just annoying because it bloats your liver.) Other sugars however are a different story.

    The video actually poses that fructose (not all sugar) does promote type 2 diabetes. Please watch it. The video is not at all about all sugar being bad. Quite the contrary.
