If you want to have a default what gets followed. Then make a KWin rule for the initial size. Then you are happy and EVERYONE ELSE are happy with the current.

They NEED a terminology what reflects exactly to the technology what you can use separetely. You do not need to get whole "KDE" to get KDE apps working. Or start developing them. You do not need KDE apps at all to be able use the KDE workspace! You do not need KDE workspace on Windows or Mac OS X to get KDE apps working on it. Only KDE platform.

I bet you have no idea how the KDE SC works. Do you know what difference is with KDE Workspace, KDE Platform and KDE apps? What you need to get, example the Gwenview and Okular to Windows? What you need to get Okular and Amarok being used on GNOME?

I give you a tip, you do not need anything else than KDE Platform. You can leave KDE Workspace out. And there is not just one desktop anymore, KDesktop died with KDE3. There are workspaces what are build by Plasma. You have three KDE workspaces. Plasma Desktop, Plasma Netbook and coming Plasma Mobile. Three different kind workspaces, all just using Plasma technology.

The old branding "KDE" did not reflect at all the technologies what user needed to get wanted stuff work.
It is very easy to say something is sh***y when you do not know how technology works. There was logical need for better branding and to make accurate names for every part.

Yes. There was dozen different name suggestions what users voted. Then the KDE marketing group started to go trough them with the community. In the end, there was consensus that final brand is KDE SC (KDE Software Compilation). The Software Compilation is better than "Software Package" or anything else. Because then it is not a randomly together tied software but well designed compilation.

There is clear line between Sub-notebook and Notebook class. The "Ultraportable notebook" is like Netbook... a Sub-notebook class. But they are just marketing tricks for consumers to sell them something "new". Every year you need to get somekind new "trick" to sell old stuff as a "new innovation".

The netbooks just are today (since 8,9" screens) in notebook class, not in sub-notebooks class. The screen size is one what rules, but not the only one. And MS wanted to push the limit so up that Windows can run on it. So we do not anymore get any sub-notebook classes computers.

  16. Re:$380? on Asus Budget Ultraportable Notebook Sold Sans OS · · Score: 2, Interesting

Netbook is just a nickname for the sub-notebook category.
Netbooks idea was to have a 7-9" screens with good resolution (from 720x480 up to 1024x600). So you can just have very basic functions with you. Weight being less than 800g and battery time about 10-20 hours (depending the screen being a black/white or very little power usage).

Bad thing is just no one really wanted to take out the netbook as there was a need. They pushed normal LCD monitors to them, a Intel Atom what eats the battery and over few gigabytes for storage.

Now "netbooks" are notebooks. Thanks to Microsoft what wanted to come to markets and drive Linux away from markets so people would not start using different UI's what would drive them to alternatives from Windows in the end.

    From smaller to bigger
Cellphone (some are called as "smartphones")
PDA (already replaced by "smart"phones and MID's)
Sub-notebook (Netbook trend should drop here)
    Notebook
    Laptop
    Desktop computer .... ....
    Supercomputer

Many would buy a 150$ computer with at least 10-15 battery time, very lightweight, small storage space (4-12Gb) and good connectivity (only a WiFi/3G, who wants to have a RJ-45 on cellphone? just as example).

But problem is that if it does not come with Windows, Microsoft will drive you away with all possible ways. If you dont have Office or IE on it, many people will turn away.

Yes, Canonical just had panic that they are not so "innovative" as they like to hype.

I can not find anything new here. Linux is already very fast bootin OS, under a second. You do not need to edit the OS for fast booting. You need to tweak what set of system software you use so you get them boot fast. On my home computer last 4 years Linux has started under 2 seconds. But that is only for OS. The whole system boot to login screen takes 15 seconds. If I use just the CLI or Fluxbox, I get boot time to under 10 seconds. When disabling some unneeded services what comes enabled as useless in many times.

Ubuntu is just more and more gaining same fanatic userbase as are most fanatic Apple users (most are normal users). Maybe only they can see the "magic" what Canonical is "doing".

  21. Re:Horizontal vs. vertical space on Canonical Bringing an Instant-On Ubuntu · · Score: 1

KWin has allowed that from the beginning. You can make rules to specific windows to be specific size and specific position. You can even set own shortcuts to them if wanted. And this has be the case now, almost 10 years.

And since KDE SC 4.4 there has be a same mouse function as Windows 7 has, drag the window top of the screen and you get it fullscreen. Drag it to left or right edge and you get it to take 50% of screen space.

And KWin has supported since 4.4 as well the tab interface so you can tab windowses together. And with small hack I believe you could make those work as linked together.

And try to press right mouse button or scrollwheel on the "maximize" button. There is a wish for having modification key so the window size gets only stop to next window edge instead of desktop edge.
And when you have the Alt+Right/middle function to move/reisze window, with "snap on", it is very fast and easy to place windows in first time. Then make the rule for them how they should be positioned and on what desktop etc.

With very small effort, you get perfect setup to your codings.

Yes, you are correct. 140 letters should be enough for every school exams, technical/scientific papers or even for novels and every possible news-group.

Discussion where messages are over 140 letters is just wasted space.

There is no need to explain yourself or give any reasoning or argument why, what, when or whom said/made something.

160 letters is just wasted in SMS. Thats why the avarage sended SMS amount in a month can be about 4000, because you can not discuss with 160 letters easily. SMS is great with 160 limitation (We can send at least long ones in multiple parts, some models allows 3-6x160 to be sended as one) for very short informations like "I'm being late from meeting about 10 min" or "Buy some milk when you come to home". Without needing to call.

If the discussion needs more than one SMS's, it is cheaper to call and talk the 30-60 seconds (depending the timer of your operator) when you can say even a 600-700 words and it can be less than 10 cents.

Sending a E-Mail from phone is much cheaper than that, if you have the 3G without monthly limitation. LIke I have 768/256kbits with 9,90 euros for whole month. No limits for transferred data.

And yes, this was over 140 letters. How do you think I could have brought my points up with 140 letters?

Lets try that: "140 letters is not enough for daily discussions. Just use Email and unlimited 3G connection. Ironically I just said you are wrong."

That was 131 letters long. And if wanted to answer to that, it needs much more messages from both (all) parties.

In the end, not even Einstein needed more: E=MC2

That is 5 letters... (2 is normal because does not show correctly) yeah, right? So 135 is just wasted. Everything should be just 5 letters.. At least we can use the most famous English word easily: FUCK
