2. Gold and Platinum records - as sales have declined, the number of copies needed to score a gold or platinum has been repeatedly changed so the studios can brag (maybe to their stockholders, since these figures invariably get quoted in the stock prospectus) that they are getting more platinum sales than ever, even though the actual sales numbers are down.
Not sure what you are basing this on, as the only thing that has ever changed about gold and platinum record numbers are they went from value of retail sales sold to number of actual records sold. The number required as of 2009 is still 500,000 for gold and 1,000,000 for platinum - which have been the same since the 60s. (The numbers may be slightly different for other countries, but I am assuming we are talking about the US rules as the RIAA is based in the US.) See here or here for my sources.
It makes sense, but sense isn't how the legal system works. "Facts" are only "facts" if people choose to accept them as such. It always matters where and how you get the evidence, otherwise there would be no need for some many rules about how and where you can obtain evidence. Hell some of the time a defense's only strategy is to make the person reporting the facts look unreliable. When you can't disprove the facts, your only option is to attack how they were obtained to begin with.
You are preaching to the choir here. I think the world would be much more peaceful and quiet if all parents locked their kids in the basement. Especially when I am going out to spend $150 on a nice dinner.
Not as outrageous as Wells Fargo wanting the Minnesota Department of Transportation to build an exit ramp off Interstate 35W because their corporate offices are a whole 4 blocks away from the currently existing exit.
There is nothing politically correct about avoiding confusion, or by not using abbreviations that most people outside of where you live will not understand. Your ignorance reveals to us that you are truly, well, an ignoramus.
So are you saying that if you bring down multiple federal websites, the US government isn't going to think it is a big deal? So will they just send you a polite email asking you to stop, or do you think they would track you down and try to punish you to the full extent of the law? If you truly think they wouldn't do anything, there is an easy way to test your theory...

Bah, statistics. They can be used to prove ANYTHING.
Just ask Linksys.
You must not understand the definition of "viable".
No, some of us realize it. There just really isn't a viable alternative at the moment.
It will be the same year Duke Nuke'em Forever is released, which will also be the Linux Year of the Desktop.

Elementary my dear Watson.
True, just ask MediaSense, the people who most likely illegally obtained the evidence for the RIAA cases.
Because everyone knows that Britain is a bottom, right?
No it isn't. Just yank the ethernet cable and problem solved. Couldn't be quicker or less expensive than that!
Evidence is only as good as the people obtaining it.
If you want to see something funny, go to the Google homepage, type in "french military victories" and click the I'm Feeling Lucky button.
the only 7-11 near where I live is run by hippies
Just a wild guess, but are you from Portland by any chance?
He probably only convinced them to get the PBX so he could run conference calls and sell them to people on the outside for a profit.

At least with my cat I am guaranteed to get a return on the energy spent; can't say the same about humans.

...unless the range of numbers used for the RNG is zero through zero.
Oops, forgot to post anonymously. Murdoch's jack-booted hit squad is already en route to your house.
Oh shit! I forgot too. They are coming for me now also!
Because we can't all live in a fantasy world where all goods and services are free as in beer.

Touché. But seriously, not quite old enough to have this knowledge first hand, but having parents that were into crap music certainly helps.
Something tells me you're into something good.
