Ah, no. Off the top of my head, simply making a disk would cost far more than that because you still have to pay for the electricity to burn the disk, employees to maintain the factory and transporting costs. Then, you have to cover the advertising expenses, the cost of making the film if it wasn't covered by the release to the cinema, various taxes, and so on. Then, once it has hit the store shelf, the shop has to make a profit off that that batch of DVD's, cover for any shoplifting as well as products which aren't selling as well. If you think that making and selling DVD's are sold for rippoff prices, why don't you startup your own business as see for yourself?

  4. I suppose I do on Why Does Everyone Hate Microsoft? · · Score: 1

Even though I am writing this on winxp, I would have to admit I hate microsoft. The main reason is their abuse of monopoly, frequent bugs/glitches and their tendency to issue shoddy products. I mean, If they just stuck to building a decent OS with a bare set of applications, i'd be fine. Take for example Windows office, Internet Explorer and windows onecare could well be an example of their vertical lifting. Then, there is the frequent bugs and glitces, like every now and again a tooltip will decide it doesn't need to go away, leaving it stuck on the desktop, or the unreliable windows explorer. And my last point has already been covered better than I can explain it.

Well, if the bridge started to crack, they would fix it, wouldn't they? The computer industry is very, very young in comparison to the bridge building industry. Who's to say that there was a time when bridges where in a constat state of being patched up. The reason that people tend to release software early and use their customers as beta testers is because they can fix it faster, easier and cheaper than if you where to fix a problem in a bridge. Also, there are not nearly as many souls who's lives depend on bridges (well, the major ones), compared to computers, where the competition is intense and is a smaller user base. It is also (arguably) a less important service.

The reason Windows is such a success is because A, its more friendly for the non-geeks than Linux. B, computer companies make more money when they sell a windows box (because they can buy the parts bulk, and they can get paid for builing it) than Apple. the only reason i use Windows and don't try and figure out linux is because of the games.
