Common knowledge says, if a person (or a company) has a lot of money, they are better than the ones what don't have as much money. If you agree with it or not, doesn't matter, that's how it works.
Look at the news, some dumb smuck that can make million of dollars is treated like king, with people (paparatises) following them around taking pictures of everything they do.
Does it matter the person that person is an ass 90% of the time? nope. Does it matter the person the person can barely speak in public? Not in the least. Does it matter she was a whore, died in car crash because her and everyone inside the car were drunk? Nahhh, she was princess.
In the article, it says there was an announcement in the United States last Monday in which it was said that Brazil was removed from the top most part of the list of countries that ignore piracy and violate intellectual property.
Funny thing in the article is to read that they found out that Brazil didn't manufacture the products that were confiscated by authorities, but they were manufacture in China and crossed the border into Brazil via Paraguay.
Maybe they could just require the station to broadcast at a really low quality. That would discourage most from recording and burning it on a CD or transferring it to their mp3 players.
People talk about the players as if the consumer wouldn't need any TV to go with it. The High Def TV's are pretty expensive atm, once they start to come down a lot, then we can talk about which format will win this round.
The Brazilian legal system is as slow as the rest of our bureaucratic country. There have been instances of companies that declared bankruptcy and their property stayed in legal limbo for about 15 years. Most people I know do not use the court system, because it is painfully slow (compared to the US courts that is).
At least in Brazil, by the time the chimp gets anything done in court, he will either have moved on to some juicer bananas, or just evolved into politicians to enact laws for it's own benefit.
When I play some of those MMORPG's on the net, I often wonder why in the heck do I have to treat "children" in game any different then an adult. I have heard several times people that defend and excuse some of the most disgusting behavior only because "they are children." Does being a child mean that you get away with a heck lot just because of your age? Even if you did know that what you were doing was wrong? Does something magically change when they turn 18?
What about the mother? How could she claim ignorance when it was her job to educate and take care of them? Parents already have Free School (more like a prison really), a free ride to school, they get a heck lot of money back in taxes for having those dawn children. Couldn't she take at least care of their Internet behavior? What about having 5 children? Come on, we live in 2006, not 1906, family planning is there, one is a mistake, after that it was her choice.
Downloading those music files with her computer and paid for net access was like going into a store and robbing the place with your parents' car and gun.

Yeah, I wonder what Joe Blow the Plumber has to say about the latest NASA projects. If it's stupid enough, I bet he should make a blog about it, it might even make it to slashdot.
With Perl 6 coming out, we will be able to compile and execute bytecode with Parrot. I see the need for Java being opensourced coming to an end with the release of the next version of Perl.
Last year that was a link to a blog entry called "Brazil: the hearth of FOSS" on LinuxToday talking about Brazil standing behind Linux and the good that it was doing to the poor neighborhoods. So I decided to post a comment on it, the first one actually, saying the same thing you said it here. Amazed me that most people just didn't really understand a thing about what goes on or what they really need in those poor neighborhoods.
It does get tiring to see so many people defending the person who knowingly broke the laws (copyright laws), and going after whoever (in this case the RIAA) for being evil. If they were on the other side of the fence having their stuff stolen, they would be glad to have an "evil" corporation defend them.

To me, the article doesn't show anything new...

From that list, I use Adblock Plus. Great extension if you have dialup, like me :)
