Pedophilia, incest, multiple non-abrahamic religions, polytheism, zombies, ghouls, various fantasy figures, idol worship, paganism...
I'm pretty sure most of that can be found in the bible.
Things I've seen in Game Of Thrones is on the same level or more tame than things I've read in books. So why aren't the "moral majority" up in arms about about that?
Well because books dont get the same media coverage and more likely, these people dont read.
It wasn't even *close* to cheap (either in implementation or ongoing support) but we added OIM (Oracle Identity Manager) to our existing Oracle suite of products
We're an University of 30,000 students and 5,000 staff and we're getting rid of OIM because it cant do anything properly. After 3 years and literally millions of dollars it still cant communicate with Exchange, not only are we still employing the same number of people to do account provisioning (approx 14,000 new accounts per year) we're also employing a large team of developers who spend more time rolling back failed changes than developing new ones (jury is still out on whether this is a good thing). When Oracle recently turned around and said we needed to license another product to get Exchange connectivity it was the straw that broke the camels back.
Not only this, Oracle is adamant that it cant be virtualised using VMWare. This means we need to keep around massive amounts of iron for the two times a year we do student intakes.
Not only is OIM not even remotely close to cheap, it's not even remotely close to functional.
Ignorance is perceived as "deviant" rather than normal?
That is because "ignorance" in the colloquial definition is entirely wilful ignorance despite the technical definition including simply being unaware.
When we refer to someone as being ignorant, it means they deliberately ignored information and knowledge rather than not possessing it in the first place.
if the data hackers grabbed ak 47s and stormed the colocation facility and ripped out hard drives, then your analogy works. the company is innocent and the hackers deserve full condemnation
Not sure about where you live, but you'd need more than AK47's to storm a colo in Australia. We're a country that doesn't have gun nuts and mass shootings twice a week but even our datacenters are designed to be extremely secure buildings. There will be under 10 windows, windows on the ground floor will not permit direct access to data halls, the glass will also be bulletproof and the place is under 24 hour guard. They are this secure (by law) because of the sensitivity of the data they keep. This is even if you get to the front door, datacenters are surrounded by 2.5 metre high fences and remotely controlled gates.
A datacentre is the kind of building I'd look for in the event of a Zombie apocalypse.
And yes given those order numbers "on the way out" seems reasonable enough.
Boeings problem is that most of the 747-8 orders are freighters.
Also it's not just the A380 that is putting the 747 out to pasture. Its the increasing range and reliability of twinjets. With ETOPS 240 pretty much being the de-facto minimum standard for widebody twinjets these days the A380 is likely to be the last jumbo we'll see in regular service. Both the B787 and A350 are going for ETOPS 330 qualifications which means there's few places on earth they cant fly to.
To airlines it make more sense sending over two B777's than one 747 with range not being an issue any more, faster to load, unload and turn around. These days big jets like the A380 only makes sense between major hubs where slots are expensive and in short supply (I.E. London Heathrow and Singapore Changi).
they're just considered "white" now. Like how hispanics and jews are "white" whenever it's convenient.
Erm, Jews aren't a race. They're an ethnicity.
Most Jews are Caucasian.
Hispanic is also an ethnicity. Hispanics are people from countries with historical links to Spain (derived from the Latin word "Hispania" which was the Roman name for the Iberian Peninsula) Hispanics are mostly Caucasian with some amount of Negroid (mainly due to the historical slave trade in the Caribbean).
Claiming Jews and Hispanics are races is like claiming that Pastafarians and New Yorkers are races.
Historically, Jews and Hispanics have been wrongly classified as races due to the fact humans are stupid.
I'm in California and IMHO the way they are teaching math in elementary school sucks. Working on a computer is a distraction
This is the crux of the problem with education reform. No matter what you do, someone will complain. First, Russotto was complaining that kids can't work ahead. I pointed out that that is wrong, and in many public schools the kids can work ahead at their own pace. Then you complain that that is a bad thing, and the kids should go back to drills with pencil and paper.
For the record, I very much disagree with you. Recent changes in California public schools have been very much for the better. Why should my kid be penalized because your kid is dumb? Your kid should get some remedial help, but that is no reason to hold others back.
And that is pretty much how it works in countries that have functioning education systems.
Kids who need help get given extra remedial classes. Kids who are bright get sent to advanced classes. When I was in years 6 and 7 I was doing maths at a high school level... This meant attending maths classes at a high school.
It's not about giving out welfare or not giving out welfare in this case. It's about what hoops they make people jump through to get the money. With minimum income, there's no hoops to jump through. You don't have to prove you are trying to find work, and they don't have to police the people receiving the money to ensure they are trying to find work, or whatever other types of roadblocks they come up with. The system costs less to run because there is so much less bureaucracy. People will generally want to find a job, as minimum income isn't generally a very comfortable lifestyle.
This.
I have to wonder how much money is lost trying to make people comply with rules and eligibility requirements on welfare compared to just paying the welfare.
In Australia there has been a wave of American style right-wingism. Central to this is the anti-welfare crowd which wants to stop welfare for the unemployed, which costs A$7 billion but keep it for working families that costs $35 billion per year (yep, they're hypocrites over here too). Because of this the government has implemented all kinds of rules and programs to placate these whingers. This will have caused the administrative costs to blow out over the last 15 years.
Of course this is cyclical.
1. Whingers complain that dole bludgers are costing too much.
2. Government implements programs to force recipients to jump through hoops.
3. Budget for welfare needs to increase due to program costs.
1. Whingers complain that dole buldgers are costing too much.
Believe it or not, the vast majority of people want to take steps to better their lives. They don't want to just sit around on their arse all day. They want to own things, they want to be able to do things - that's human nature. And people take on work to be able to afford the things that they want.
This is me, I earn almost 50% over the median Australian wage. Personally I'd love to sit on my arse all day... and by sit on my arse all day I mean pursue the hobbies I want to like travelling, learning a new language and restoring an old Skyline, Lotus or Merc SL but that takes money so being paid paid a minimum wage isn't acceptable to me so I do the work I do (and enjoy it for the most part) to get the money so I can do the things I want to.
That being said, I have no issue with people who are out of work, studying, unable to work full time due to an illness or disability and retires receiving welfare. One of the best things about my country is that we take care of those who are down on their luck out of a sense of community (or at least we used to have a sense of community). I have some issues with the amount of middle class and corporate welfare in Australia, but I'll complain to my MP about those.
With Routers its very easy to make one that will happily survive a botched firmware update. You simply have two hard drives (or any storage device). Asus Motherboards have had dual BIOSes for years so if a bios update goes awry it simply boots up of the second one. I know Fortigate routers have this, once you update the primary (running) firmware and are happy with it, you update the secondary.
A lot of embedded devices just use SD cards as internal storage, so adding a second one is cheap.
Trump would make a hilarious president, and at least he has a track record of getting shit done and speaks his mind,
4 times bankruptee with a cult of personality who feels he doesn't need to listen to anyone else... You really want this guy running your country. Surely you're countries in enough strife as it is.
I just cannot get excited about 5G because there are still large gaps in 4G coverage. I'd like to see the telecoms finish what they started.
I can't get excited over 4G because we haven't actually got it yet. LTE is still a 3.9G tech, LTE Advanced was supposed to be the first 4G technology according to the ITU definitions.
But then the marketing trolls decided that they could just re-define words to mean whatever the hell they wanted to and 4G went from a well defined standard to arbitrary marketspeak. Some telco's had rebranded HSPA+ as 4G, because of this 5G has no real meaning and it will just lead to marking one-upmanship. "Our competitors are still on 6G, we've gone to 11G" without actually telling you they haven't changed technology at all.
The price has been set so high so that DBC can't expect to make any money on the claims if they break the court's rules.
The whole point of a setting a bond is to remove any financial incentive a company would have for breaking the rules. If it was set it so low that the company would still make money by breaking the rules and paying the fine, then setting the bond would be pointless.
This,
DBC was warned very clearly about attempting speculative invoicing by the judge and DBC ignored that warning. Judges in Australia get really pissed when you ignore them.
The whole case has been structured thus far to expressly deny DBC the chance to profit from it whilst complying with the law and I expect that in the end it will cost DBC more to pursue these people than to ignore it.
The fact that DBC won the case but still lost money should deter others from attempting the same thing.
All it would do is make air travel more expensive by giving bad and budget airlines one more thing they can charge for. Your already bad airport experience would get worse with exchanges like this:
Airline security: Sir, 35 KG is the expected maximum weight of a male passenger, you'll need to pay for every KG over. You: Wha!!!!! AS: Further more, you entered your weight during booking as 57 KG, so you've only prepaid for 22KG. You: Uh... AS: Your weight came in as 68 KG on our scales so you'll need to pay for an additonal 11 KG. You: But I'm sure I'm only 57 KG AS: Sir, our properly calibrates scale says you are 68 KG, excess weight is only $24 per KG. You: Twenty fo... AS: Plus taxes sir. Please take this receipt to the payment counter and thank you for choosing to fly with us.
I'd be all for that.
Have you ever been told to be careful what you wish for?
Part of the problem is that airlines are cramming more seats into each plane. However the real limiting capacity for carrying people/cargo is not # of seats, its weight. Too heavy, then the plane needs extra runway to reach a higher speed just to get off the ground. Even if it does get off the ground, it may not stay that way for long if weight limits are exceeded.
I thought of that, but I had a look at the fleet of Uzbekistan air, they're not even using the typical 2 class maximum for the A320-200 or 757's that make up most of their fleet.
I suspect they're attempting to cut on fuel costs by getting a more accurate estimate on the actual plane weight.
For shoving 40 people into an old turboprop that only seats 30, yes.
The last and only time I was weighted for a a flight was when taking a helicopter to an oil rig and they were trying to shove as many O&G workers onto one heli as possible and rig workers are rarely "small boned".
This looks more like a precursor for charging extra fees for tickets based on a person's weight.
As well as being able to cut corners on the amount of fuel you load.
Newsflash: the bad guys are busy finding these kind of holes and exploiting them, and don't wait for a court to tell them they're allowed to.
Its always be easy to bypass an immobiliser... Most mechanics will know how but most mechanics have better things to do than steal cars.
In Australia the most popular form of car theft involves stealing the keys first although with keyless start becoming standard in many base models I imagine that soon an off the shelf device that can emulate a key will soon appear in the same way crims can buy off the shelf card skimmers.
Fortunately with Australia being so backwards, if such a device was released tomorrow we'd still not have to worry about it for 20 years.
As a Brit it never fails to amaze me how stupid our Government has become, now this crap about needing a CC or Debit card to provide proof of age, Like there isn't a teen with an IQ of 60 or over that will work out that dads CC works just fine while he sleeps, takes a bath or whatever. Seriously this is as stupid as looking for terrorists on social media. Idiots, the lot of them.
This is what happens when you elect conservatives.
Take note America, you've got the next election (sadly Australia wont have a chance to rid itself of the abysmal Abbott govt until 2017).
But seriously, is this even going to affect kids looking for porn? This will only affect legitimate porn sites hosted or incorporated in the UK, all they'll need to do is go to "dasboobs.de" and they're instantly around it... or do what they've always done to get off and go to pornhub.

You really want to go on making pointless comparisons between completely different planes?
This is Slashdot you know.
The Concorde is fscking awesome.
The 747 is likewise fscking awesome
This.
I hate the inevitable fanboyism that these threads bring out. Its as bad as Ford/GM or JDM v Euro.
Boeing planes are great.
Airbus planes are great.
Hell, I even like Embraer.
If you want a truly scary flight, get on an old Illushin Il-62 that has been maintained by the lowest bidder in some ex-communist craphole.

I will immediately dispatch my YouTube Public Relations Executive, Mr Fluffy to attend your meeting.

So far as I know my 2008 Toyota Tacoma
Right up until you need a new water pump gasket... I think Toyota was making a statement about pickup drivers there.
Just remove the "Nissan" logo and replace it with one that says "Datsun".
Do you want your car stolen by Hipsters?

We didn't evolve to eat pizza, pasta, donuts and all the rest of the crap that the average person brings home from the store.
Yeah, and that makes everyone fatter.
http://www.livescience.com/468...
Damn right we didn't evolve to eat all that crap.
People always get that backwards. We never evolve to eat something, we evolve from eating something.
So the question is, what evolutionary changes will a pizza heavy diet produce in humans.

That is because most of those people grew up with a landline phone backed by a network that prided itself in its "five 9s" reliability.
Some of us grew up in countries that had a single provider that prided itself on providing five 9's in their bills and nine 5's of reliability.
Telecom Australia... This is Australia caaaaaalling ($5.99 per minute, calling not actually guaranteed).

No it's not. When I read the article (from the Atlantic site) I didn't even pick up on Slack. At the worst, it's a small interstitial.
Calm down. Call somebody on the phone and talk over your issues.
In other words... here's 50 cents, call someone who cares.
Cost of local phone call from public telephone box may vary depending on country.
