But when I install grub on the MBR, obviously it will overwrite the first sector, right? The first sector contained the first part of the filesystem, so isn't that now overwritten?
Yes, that's exactly the same problem that's been in existence ever since we started storing data on magnetic tape/platters. That is why there have been advances in error checking/correction.
I always want the complete album from an artist, and I usually also want it in FLAC format if available. That makes each download about 200-500MB. There are very good music oriented bittorrent trackers out there, taking over after the previous gem "oink", where you know that everything you download will be well seeded, will not contain any virus or misplaced songs etc. what.cd being one good example. You say it's more work to search for something so small, I say it's more work to sift through the spam and random-quality files on those other networks.:)
The reasons they can maintain that kind of quality are also the drawbacks with it: they are invite-only, and you need to keep seeding or else you're kicked out. This might make it more difficult for the average joe that only want a couple of songs now and then and don't really mind if it's a 128kbps mp3 or a wma or whatever.
Why? How do you pay for Ubuntu? I knew they were offering support for people that wanted, but the vast vast majority of computer users regardless of operating system never use services like that, so I hope that's not what you meant.
Yes, you're an Ubuntu user. You're also a Windows user. If you go to the gym for 3 hours/week you go to the gym. If you watch TV 3 hours/week you're a TV watcher.
Try a better VM solution. My KVM guests on a bog standard consumer core2 machine are as snappy as the native OS, counting CPU, RAM, disk and net access. Network access is actually faster from the virtual machines for reasons yet unknown to me. That's with Linux as a host though.
Hm, in my country you can borrow books and movies at the library, bring home for some time and then return them. Why would they play the video games at the library?
So are these "articles" actually bought and paid for, or do they just manage to sneak them in to the news flow now and then through the firehose? If they are paid for, I think it would be nice with some sort of warning, maybe a small dollar-sign icon or similar, indicating that it's an ad.
I edit wikipedia occasionally, and one thing I remove is unmotivated links to companies, or unnecessary mentioning of specific products. So yes, I consider it a case of vandalism. Since my edits are usually (always?) kept, I think most people agree. There is probably some policy about it, but I act on common sense there.
Why are they so intent on reinventing the wheel? Do they not even realize that the wheel exists already? Why not just improve on it instead?
Sometimes it's more practical to start from scratch. You might want to change the design from the ground up, and to do that with an already working bot would not be as constructive. The current bots are probably very well tweaked and polished, for their given design and methods of spam detection.
I can see that you must be young enough never to have used the search engines you list, if you suggest that you would have been able to find anything useful.
Maybe it's because it makes it look more "organic". If it would draw the lines in an optimized order, people would understand what this is: A photoshop effect and a line plotter.

Can you boot from this on a normal BIOS?
You can't defame a company.
Wow.. she seems like a "nice" girl..
By the way, to say that wikipedia is in chaos, based on a statement from a single unnamed source... is bad press ethics...
Perhaps... Fox News is in chaos?
Normally, if you want to report a crime [...]
There's that bit about being able to face your accuser.
If it is a crime, the accuser is the state.

Actually no, the end of October has never been on the 28th.
I don't really think he needs that unemployment check.

I often recommend Ubuntu Server to friends that want to set up a server but don't know where to start. It's quite slick.

Just because software exists doesn't mean you need it.
That reply might have been more funny if you had remembered to tick the "[ ] Post Anonymously" box.
Replying to your own joke just makes you look like a pathetic looney, sorry.
Ten to one these came from China.
They came from Costa Rica.

You are missing the point. As the author of the article pointed out, this technique can cause an infinite loop.
Hm? Quake 3 has been available for my Nokia since 2007 or 2008 or something.
