    *shrug*
It was a T1 on both ends with some Pairgains doing the T1 to DSL conversion in the middle. It was a long time ago, and a T1 was not available in the area.
I the DSL signaling was HDSL. The telco didn't admit it was DSL until troubleshooting it one day.

I think they called it a two wire T1.

I don't get this, I have have been on a few private jets and my phone calls always cut off once we get over a few thousand feet. The pilots have said that the problem with having cell phones on while flying is that the cell phones buzz in their ears when trying to make ground to air communications while on approach for landing. So in my mind, turning off my cell during flight is a courtesy to the pilots so they don't have to listen to my cell trying to connect once my cell comes back into range. Since I could not use my cell anyway other than a few moments at takeoff and landing, this is a small price to pay to not be annoying my pilots. They have my life in their hands after all... Also, a benefit to turning off your phone during flight, is that you save battery life. A phone that cannot connect to a tower sucks battery like crazy.

I agree, I *absolutely* do not have cheap gear, and video via RDP sucks. I am running 7 ft pre-made Belden Datatwist runs and the NICS are onboard an Asus A8V Deluxe and the switch is a 2950 Catalyst with no errors on the ports. It seems to me that video over RDP just plain sucks.

"Plus, on a LAN using thinclients will be just as fast, visually, as a local PC. Hell, I play video's over my RDP thinclients and it works quite well." Funny you should make that statement; video via RDP on my locally connected 100Mbps link is absolutely horrible. I have several computers, and I use RDP to access them all. Every time I try to watch a video, I find myself copy/pasting the link to my local computer to actually watch the video.

Whatever, same thing. I was referring to the Task Manager, Processes, End Process button. I just didnt look it up before posting. Anyway, try it on IE when a java applet hangs and you will see what I mean.

I will say that, for me, IE tends to hang and stutter much much more. That in combination with "End Task" never seems to work properly (same with the stop button) with IE, and Firefox just seems to be a no brainer to me. I have NEVER had FF consume memory like IE does. I imagine if I loaded 3000 extensions, FF might consume a bit of memory, but really, wouldn't you expect it to?

hehe, man look at the details and forget the point... The specific list of games that I play is not important, what is important is that linux sucks to play 80% (swag) of the games that are on the local game store's shelf. Most everyone I know plays some sort of video game on their computer that cannot be played easily on linux. I guess everyone that I know is in the minority.

"Why? Do you have more than 4GB of RAM? Why do you need a 64bit OS?" Umm, not sure why you should care, but... Because it was available. And there are no issues with it. Trust me guys, better video game support = mass adoption of linux. I don't think you get my point, all other areas I think Linux excels. The only area that linux sucks is in video game support. Sure, say xxxx game works better, but do all games work better? Most definitely not. Video games are not the end all be all of OSes, but it is an area that is severely gimping linux. This is why linux is not a true alternative to windows.

    Games

When games I buy at the store can be popped into my Linux system and installed with no fuss... Linux will have arrived. I want to install a linux os in a few minutes, run an OS updater, install several random top shelf games, and have them all run flawlessly (no matter what type of hardware I have). Until that happens linux will ALWAYS be a novelty OS.
Video games drive what OS is used for a majority of users. That is the way it has always been, and the way it will always be.

I run Windows XP-64. I would love to run linux instead, but I know I will not be able to run DDO, WoW, Doom3, etc etc without some major headaches with compatibility, drivers, libraries, etc.

For now, I satisfy my linux cravings by running linux in vmware.
