After booting from the installation CD, open a shell, mount your disk, rename/home to something else, then remove all other directories. (You may want to save/etc too if you changed something. Nowadays the average user don't need to edit/etc, as the defaults work fine, so it's fine to wipe it.)
Then you choose to manually choose the partitions, specify the partition layout (just assign which is/, etc), and tell it to NOT format.
After the installation, move back the contents of your old/home to the new one.
No, it will not. Lyx is a great tool to replace an "office" wysiwyg editor, but it won't get you "into" LaTeX, it'll just help a bit to break the wysiwyg paradigm.
16bits is ok, but 44kHz is just not enough. For even a 2kHz sound, you get only 22 "pixels" to "draw" the sound wave. Result: high frequency sounds (treble) are poorly reproduced. Some people notice it more than others.
Analog is superior in quality. At least compared to CD quality. When there is enough resolution, digital will be better.
Just like with photography. Just now the (state of the art) digital photography is getting enough resolution to surpass the digital film.
Did it once while in university, and it was ran as my desktop system for many months. Just gave up because it was hard to upgrade the system.
But it was a rewarding experience. Glad I did it while I had some spare time, as I feel never in my life I'll be able to do it again. Or maybe when I'm retired?
Too big. Need to show how it renders in smaller sizes, as that's how it will be used for coding.

you keep using that expression... it does not mean what you think it does
Is there a version without those ugly, unnecessary lines?
For instance, to use the image as a desktop wallpaper.
So, it's not "full PC functionality".
To me, a PC can run Linux, Window, *BSD, DOS, etc.
sorry, I tried many times to copy/past these so called python code, and then never work.
yes, relying on white space is a stupid idea.
Right now I am (should be :) writing Perl code, and being paid for it.
And it's a big and important project, not just some utility scripts.
I also write one of my main pet projects in Perl.
Of course it is implied that if you do any work outside of /home, you should save that too.
Anyway, the proper way is to symlink your work from /home to /var/www.
You don't need to backup.

a lot more work fighting with the document preparation than the actual writing
Funny, I find it's exactly the opposite.
Then, there are infinite more reasons why LaTeX is better.
FTFY

I meant, "to surpass the analog film".
duh
Nope.

Same with me.
Did it once while in university, and it was ran as my desktop system for many months.
Just gave up because it was hard to upgrade the system.

because it was the most reliable linux distro at the time (and maybe still is)?
there's an app for that.
or a website: http://impact.ese.ic.ac.uk/ImpactEffects/
no, mini is.
micro is actually 10 times toughter than mini.
this makes so much more sense.
and also http://www.servalproject.org/
yes, it would.
like http://www.servalproject.org/ (there's also an app)
I am paid to work on whatever my boss tell me, during my work hours.
And I work on Free software for free, during my free time.
Another nice multiplataform GUI diff, and also has 3-way: vimdiff / gvimdiff
What holds me is Vimperator and Tree Style Tab.
