I'm really not seeing anything in mcgrew's post that implies that NASA was anything but curious.
Even if this was done in America, and laws were broken, I don't think NASA would be the one to get all huffy at you, that probably is an FAA, FBI, or ATF thing. NASA just does science.
People steal bikes so that they can eat. Right.....
Crime is indeed a fact of life, but I really don't think poverty is the only motivating factor. Chances are most people who steal bikes in major cities do it for drugs, which I suppose might be related to poverty, but I wouldn't really call that the cause. Greed and laziness is more of an issue I think, laziness also being a cause of much poverty.
No. Nobody has to do anything here. He was indicating that he found that statement hilarious, and there is nothing wrong with that. If you want more in-depth analysis feel free to read any of the other dozens of posts here.
Although blaming the victim is never politically correct, realistically they generally do share some of the blame. If I leave my bike sitting on the sidewalk of any major city and fail to lock it to anything, do you really think it's not my fault at all when it gets stolen?
Well sure, but this is google we are talking about. It's not like they didn't already put metric tons of computing cycles into this, why not go just a little further and get a much nicer end result?
So is hiring people to drive around in a van, but they manage that. If you watch the siggraph video this doesn't look like it'd be expensive at all either.
You are missing the point. Because it would signify the start of an all out war, no sane country would risk knocking out the GPS network. If anything, their first strike would have to be far more devastating, something that actually cripples our ability to respond. It's called mutual assured destruction, and despite the naysayers, it has worked pretty well for several decades now.
Besides, are cancelled airline flights really going to be your primary concern in the days following a nuclear war? I have a feeling commercial planes wouldn't be flying regardless.
Carter banned the reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel. He knew reprocessing was a good idea (the French do it right now, to great effect), but he did it anyways for political reasons.
Hard-liners in the middle east don't give half a shit about what India does. The Pakistanis do sure, but they already are nuclear. The hard-lines in the middle east want to go nuclear because of Israel.
"Responsible disclosure" is a concept dreamed up by vendors to allow them to stall and procrastinate when it comes to fixing bugs as long as possible. The only "responsible" disclosure is full disclosure.
And I pay about $20 a month for DSL from verizon, while my grandparents pay $100 a month for FiOS from verizon. Prices vary place to place, and tend to go up the better service you get. I'm not really seeing what point you are trying to make here... My confusion might have something to do with my not being able to understand a damn thing you are saying in the second half of that line though.
Regardless, the shittiest of dialups would be plenty for paying bills online, and if you can't afford that then you have some serious issues.
Because in that case there is actually a benefit? A 26" TV isn't considered portable, and neither is a 55" TV. Unlike with the Ipod/Ipad comparison, it's actually an improvement.
That any program can do that is the real issue...
I take it you haven't watched Fox News very much.
Be easy on the US politicians. They're still learning.
My comment was more along the lines of this I think:
Sir Lewk: I still don't see why you think Mcgrew thinks NASA is getting all bent out of shape over this.

Depends on how you define punishment. My insurance company will no doubt be less than sympathetic, which may cause a financial punishment of sorts.

Anyone know where I can get a QueueQuat?
No, you know what is old an entirely unoriginal?
People bitching about things being old and entirely unoriginal.
So is hiring people to drive around in a van, but they manage that. If you watch the siggraph video this doesn't look like it'd be expensive at all either.
Then I'd wonder why they aren't using it, opting instead to blur faces?
Are you on drugs?

Carter is the stupidest of them all, because he had the education to at least know he was making a retarded decision.

Huh? I'm an American and a 100 mile drive certainly isn't something I just do on a whim to go buy a video game...
Right, so not portable. Got it.

Too bad CCTVs don't actually help solve crimes.
