I don't want to hear people saying "why can software developers build software like building bridge" again. Big Dig proves beyond any shred of doubt that building tunnel IS like building software, with all the messy details ensured.
On the other hand, why can we have $14.6 billion budget for software development?
These coding competitions are not indicative of how good a person can program. It just tests how much you can memorize and how fast you can type.
We found out the hard way. We hired one of the winners from one of these competitions (Top Code or Google). He's a terrible programmer. The amount of messy from him we have to clean up were painful.

Most people I know who use SQL work in Java, Ruby, Python, C++, JDBC, ODBC, ASP.NET, Hibernate, etc. Please, there are so many SQL related technologies. PHP is not the be-all, end-all one.
The beauty of SQL is that it's a language, platform independent way to define and manipulate relational data. It's a data-centric way to deal with data. Adding one of the related language to the mix just muddles things.

Those MPAA Dogs!!
Since NASA and India have signed the space tech agreement, it's only natural to outsource ISS to India. Think of the cost saving!

I'm surprised that no one here sees what really happened - U.S. government has REQUIRED the Chinese government to require that every machine that goes out of a factory door in China to have a licensed operating system installed. Things are still the same - pigs walk on four legs. http://www.usda.gov/wps/portal/!ut/p/_s.7_0_A/7_0_ 1OB?contentidonly=true&contentid=2006/04/0125.xml
Look at this announcement, under the Intellectual Property Rights http://www.usda.gov/wps/portal/!ut/p/_s.7_0_A/7_0_ 1OB?contentidonly=true&contentid=2006/04/0125.xml
I am sure Microsoft is behind this.
