Do they mean 'v1' as in "version 1" or as in V1. Because you know, other empires had interests in 'v1' opportunities as well.
Seriously though, what will they include in this product that will make people want to switch away from the existing photo sharing sites? As a photographer I'm all for cool new features. But those features are worthless if they don't help me get things done better/quicker and the menu options for them keep moving around with each new release. What is the compelling reason to use their service, or are they playing a game of "Oh crap! Time to get caught up!"
My opinion and stance has always been "if you want me to have it, then you (the company) will pay for it." I've told employers that if they want me to have a cellphone then they had better pay for it themselves, 'cuz I won't have one if it's my choice.
And the 2002 winner of the reality tv emmy is.......... The Running Man Show!!!!
Remember back to the early 80's where we all thought that the running man movie was written by a bunch of crack heads? Well, guess what: we're very near that now.
I can't stand reality tv and I really don't think it should have it's own emmy.
I left a job for on-call bullshit as well. I have one week left on this job and they still owe me about 3 weeks of comp time (i'm salaried) and I know that I will never see it. This is after being on-call for about half of the last year. The place I'm going to gave me a big honkin' raise and absolutely ZERO on call with no intentions of ever having an on-call lineup.
The rule at my soon to be EX-employer is that if you want to schedule vacation, you are so important that we can't live without you for even a day. As soon as you go to negotiate more vacation, a raise, or resign you aren't worth a cold pint of piss.
Every comp. sci. and comp. eng. book I've ever seen defines an OS as a place for programs to run, that provides IO support, mem. management, and clock cycles to whatever needs to run. When did this change?
It's like saying that a ford, without a radio, without power mirrors and locks, without an automatic transmission, without headlights, without a back seat is no longer a car.
Sorry, but I don't buy the idea that Unix isn't an OS. I agree that it needs to have many pieces added to it to really do anything useful. But how different is that from a car enthusiast putting a new carbourator in? or putting a new suspension in? or putting in a cruise control package? or a cd player?
I disagree with the statement and view that computing is not about computers, but about getting the data you are looking for from the "cybersphere". A lot of "computing" involves completing a task, crunching some numbers, even writing a document. If we limit the definition of computing to searching for data and pr0n on the net, we are missing the point. Computing is the science of DOING a task and making our lives easier. Yes, pulling info from the net is part of this, but it is not the be all end all of computing, computer science, and computer engineering. We need to remember that with the almalgamation (sp?) of computers there is more than just surfing the net or whatever it's called in 15 years. With all of this the COMPUTER IS THE IMPORTANT PART of the solution. You aren't going to want to go out on the net and hunt for data when your task involves solving a large calculation. You want your computer to do the calculation.
Why don't we just come up with a new word. One that doesn't contain all of the baggage and negative conotations of "hacker".
I thought about it for a minute and came up with "tune". A person can be a tuner, then can tune a 'puter, or fine-tune a box. ie "I am tuning this machine."
The JoeBagOfDoughnuts media will keep using hacker, because they love the word so much and we can identify ourselves how we want with this new meaning of "tune".

wow, they are amateurs.

I found the characters to be believable since after all, they are ubergeeks. I personally liked the flashbacks.
