Since I do not class Anime with western cartoons I did not even consider mentioning them, but they are legion.
Naturally, every mecha series has it's boffins who are sometimes at odds with the ops guys...or the janitor who has some special secret skill -or the kid who snuck on to the base...I think even bubblegum crisis had a boffin who designed and maintained the 'suits'
the best US -current airing anime in this vein I can think of is Ghost in the Shell:Standalone complex -they have a pretty good main scientist.
AZN runs a LOT of 90s Evangelion-like ones set in space. -I saw one last night that seemed to deal with Norse gods in outer space or something.....
In many animes the main character turns out to be some semi-natural construct created by some scientist -perhaps posing as a parent, teacher or other authority figure, such as many of the characters in Big O or Serial Experiment Lain or Soul taker.
Anytime fighting the paranormal or otherworldly is involved there are usually scientists (except in Fooley Cooley!)..or sorcerors... or Akira.. or.. Betterman
and then there are animes such as Trigun where foreign science and technology has blighted a world and left its colonizers barely hanging on...
Actually, if I think on all the anime scientist-types I would say that ED from Bebop is one of the best -or at least the most entertaining.
Alec Guinness as a geeky scientist who invents something that will ruin several industries and upset many worker's lives. Like many Scientists is is more concerned with the creation and problems to to be solved rather than the possible effects on society.
Microsoft and Qualcom wish to make common cause against Nokia -Qualcom due to CDMA and Microsoft due to Symbian OS and mobile Linux. Microsoft has had difficulty in getting any major manufacturer to use their platform on phones due to manufacturer's rightful fears of being commoditized as PC makers have been..NET will help support a lot of distributed apps and better concurrent apps and memory handling will allow for 'media-rich' phones as phones and PDAs converge.
-that said, they're both bastards and the success of this venture will lead to more microsoft lockin.
Series: Trigun -humour, violence (though not much from the 'peace and love' hero Vash) Crest of stars -not great animation, but good story and dialog Key the Metal Idol
strange: magic shopping arcade betterman
and of course anything by Miyazaki -esp for those who are not into robots and mecha
Lately AZN, the asian network has had some interesting anime, including record of lodoss war.
It seems as though G4/techtv is not showing nearly as much anime as they used to -too bad, that was where shopping arcade, silent moibus, crest of stars and many other interesting ones were shown.
and for those who like their anime cute and feudal, there's still Inuyasha on Cartoon Network.
anime is no more about a single genre/type than is lilve action movies and they often address interesting themes and moral questions which live action could never or would never do.
so that would have to count as a resounding success for France -even if the Normans included a lot of Vikings who had settled in France.
The Brits might not readily admit it, but they have been mostly ruled by European royalty ever since.
Even Queen Elizabeth II is of german descent:
The House of Windsor, previously known as the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, is the Royal House of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland . (from wikipedia)
Unified Modelling language is used by Analysts, Architects and QA to ensure that an application will support the user or business processes that are required for the organization. It is best if it is used from the Requirements gathering stage onwards.
Use Cases are used to determine Actors (Objects) and Actions (methods) and to identify business rules and requrements which may need to be enforced programmatically. The use cases will result in specifications, which go to the developers, and Diagrams, which can be shown to the users and stakeholders to illustrate exactly what the system being designed will do.
If your software development efforts have NOT been user-facing, or have not needed to fulfill some business or operational function you may not have been exposed to UML where it is the most used and useful.
Good Point!

From the Cartoon World I would have to say it's a 4-way tie between:
Professor Membrane (Invader Zim)
Doctor Venture (Venture Bros)
Dexter (Dexter's Laboratory)
Professor Utonium (PowerPuff girls)

actually the lowend phones are commoditized already -they cost ~ 25$ or are given away 'free' when signing up for mobi service.
.NET driven content would bring that could freeze out the non MS phones.
HOWEVER, the service operators use sim cards and the like to 'lock' the phones so that they only work with their service.
the real threat is the walled garden effect that
I wonder if they are doing this to any of the poor saps who were hoodwinked into the Software Assurance Subscription program 5 years ago.

Because they give us something to hate!
Plus, their apps have lowered the bar for functionality/quality, although their UI has raised the bar for user experience (Yeah, Apple did it first).
