Before today, it was possible to speculate that one solution to Drake's Equation was simply that spontaneous generation of life was so rare that it only happened once, ever.

There are also a lot of people who think that spontaneous generation of life was so rare that it never actually happened, and that life on Earth was created by some sort of Flying Spaghetti Monster. Of course, those guys will think that this evidence is a fabrication by the evil atheist communists.

No, they'll shrug their shoulders and say "hey, look at what else God made". It's nothing beyond a curiosity.

"Liberal" means middle of the road. Anyone who regards the middle as way to their left must be a long way right of the centre.

You're having UK English/ US English translation issues. Most of our words mean the same things, except you put rubbers on the end of pencils and we don't smoke fags. In the US, the word Liberal is more akin to "liberally" as in "willy nilly, without consistent measure, or broad interpretation" Since our country was founded on principles defining freedom, "Liberal" is often seen as a broad interpretation of those principles, usually clashing with original intent. "Conservative" means conservative interpretation of founding principles (ie more freedom for citizens, restricted federal government).
In the UK, where the government is originally monarchical, I can understand how "Liberal" can be thought of as "more free", since "conservative" would be moving closer to the throne", but "Liberal" meaning "middle of the road" sounds unusual to me. My guess is it's another word we share that has a meaning either 90 or 180 degrees off course.

The other, she is all about being loud, using logical fallacies, and baffle-gook that sounds persuasive if you don't think too deep about it.

So each presents their case and leaves it up to a vote as to which plan is enacted.

Now here's the scary part... you have [100] people ...

You did say "one term" not "Half a term," right? I mean, the idea that a politician would serve half a term, then quit to run for another office, that is pretty much the exact opposite of buckling down.

At least there is a governor now, and yes, she should have quit when she started campaigning with McCain. I think once she realized how much more campaigning she had to do on the federal level instead of state level, she realized that she had to let someone else govern Alaska.

Then again that is the problem with corporations, they have more rights than the individual with no moral or ethical qualms other than serving the bottom line.

I'm sorry, but $27,750 isn't life ruining, even to someone making only $12/hour. A big problem, and a long term debt perhaps. But if she gets a good job, she can pay off that debt in four years or less, easily.

Actually, for a lot of kids these days (probably including her), it's more like taking some seed grain from a local farmer's field, knowing that people take seed grain from his field regularly and have for as long as they've been alive/aware, then sowing the seed all over the place. Then the farmer is angry when no one buys his crop. The kids are perplexed when they find out that the farmer has a sign at his produce stand which says "No tresspassing, no stealing of seed grain" Sure, they can understand it after the fact, but it's an "Aha!" moment. What they did is illegal, and ignorance of the law is no defense against guilt, but it should be a mitigating factor in determining punishment.
