To be fair when you work force is made up of a lot of computer scientists, cryptographers, mathematicians, etc you could probably turn over some responsibility for administration to the workforce with out losing much.
HA HA HA HA HA!
Hoo.
Competence with algorithms does not carry over into competence with administering systems (which is equal parts programming, psychology, resource management, customer service, and arcane lore).
I know you're joking, but the Great Firewall will prevent the NSA secrets from reaching the American citizenry, which is all the NSA cares about these days.
If one's government really were criminalizing commonplace behaviour, chances are Joe Public would become aware of it by seeing someone else in his society prosecuted, and then would not be ignorant of the law. Only a tiny amount of people would thus be taken completely by surprise.
Unless the Joes Public are being secretly prosecuted* in a secret court after being secretly surveiled and then secreted away.
*(for secreting secretly in a government unapproved way).
Didn't he campaign for president in 2008 by visiting other countries and holding rallies there? Running for "president of the free world" instead of the USA...
You missed a more salient point. This guy is a "Time Reporter" and he "Can't Wait"
That's the real point. He'll just pop into his time machine and write his report, but due to the temporal prime directive, he has to wait until the event happens.
More importantly: If you committed suicide, you're dead (otherwise it would be attempted suicide). How are they going to punish you after your death?
Making it illegal allows for crimes like attempted suicide or conspiracy to commit suicide. Or if you attempted suicide and someone else died as a result of your actions, then you could be slapped with a murder charge because your felony criminal behavior resulted in a death. These ancillary crimes allow authorities to lock up the perpetrators in psych wards under forced mental health care, presumably until they're better and can become functional consumers of pop culture again.
Obama didn't cause the 2008 recession. Neither did Bush. The collapse of the housing bubble didn't cause it either. Chicken Little caused the 2008 recession. The news media cried "housing prices fall dramatically! The economy is crumbling! Everyone tighten your belts, this is the big one! We're coming, Elizabeth!" And everyone stopped spending. It should have been something where only home construction companies lost their shirts, and construction workers looked for other work. Instead, the damage was multiplied because everyone was afraid of what might happen if they didn't have a nest egg for the hypothetical hard time that the newscasters assured everyone was coming. Didn't help that politicians got into the mix with bailouts. And we started destroying wealth for short term gains: cash for clunkers, the bulldozed houses in Detroit, etc.
There are much worse things you can do without breaking a single law.
Like scheduling surgery and a European vacation such that your unscheduled (from the company's point of view) paid medical leave and scheduled paid vacation butt up against one another so you miss six months of work? Bonus: get the wife pregnant three months before the surgery and take some paternity leave.
But deciding this wasn't sufficient, in the 1980s, a new law was created, called "structuring". This law essentially prevents you from carrying the sum of $10,000 over the border over the course of multiple trips. This law simply states that you may not circumvent arbitrary controls, such as currency limits, by conducting your activities in such a way as to avoid them.
I wonder if Bloomberg could use that concept to prevent people from buying a 12oz drink and getting refills (or just buying four 12oz drinks).
Bad batteries something Apple is famous for, RAM fixed to the logic board, insecure and buggy OS, and a host of other complaints makes me wonder why anyone pays the premium for Apple any longer.
Even when the democratically elected official is planning to set himself up as dictator? Their choices were "Confirmed guy trying to be dictator and 0.00001% chance of getting a real election again" They went with the lottery ticket choice (which many people would).
Just block everything outgoing except port 443. It would be a rare site that would serve http on 443. If you're less paranoid, you could block just outgoing port 80.
The government is like a relationship, once they cheat on you, forever will the trust between you cease to exist.
Even IF they are sincere afterwards, you will always have that nagging thought in the back of your head.
We The People entered into this relationship right after a particularly bitter divorce, so we had some prenuptial agreements drawn up. Our new partner isn't living up to its part of the agreement and keeps trying to violate the spirit of the prenup and the marriage itself.
It's like the universe destroying button in public view and reach. "No one has pressed it yet." Well that's a relief. I guess it's okay not to have any checks and balances to the universe destroying button then.

"They'll shut down my pre-paid legacy account over my dead body!"
In terms of creation of wealth and production, Russia had a thousand year or more head start over the American colonies.
And in Metropolis, Bibbo calls them sodee-pops.
Considering the USA had nearly a century and a half head start,
So the USSR sprang up from nothing in the north of Eastern Europe and Northern Asia? Russia never existed?
Are those customers (who will be spied upon anyway with or without your help) worth your entire life?
Not those customers, but the freedom of all American citizens, yes.
Won't someone *please* think of the sea kittens?!

In this current economic climate I or anyone wont hire anyone with a gap on their resume or without a reference recently.
So because people are out of work, you won't hire out-of-work people? Even when they're going to be a steal salary-wise?

Presumably the same reason someone pays big bucks to drink coffee made from coffee beans that have been in a civet's anus.
1) It's "without further ado," not adieu.
You're making much adieu about nothing.
Cockadieudledoo!
Nice to have if the power goes out unexpectedly, but shut down ASAP.

Go to public meeting when the ELECTED Congressmen/women who write these laws.
They don't hold public meetings as much as they used to, especially if they're entrenched.
