Excellent Microsoft, keep destroying the wide spread use of your own OS, frustrating your end users, and alienating the next generation of system/software engineers.

I'm sad to say I must agree with this. Bush was my favorite president until I started to hear of all the violations on our people. All this spying at home and I don't feel a bit safer from terrorists. Quite the opposite with a government for the government instead of the people.

  4. Flying Harassment on TSA's "Behavior Detection Officers" · · Score: 2, Insightful

I travel regularly all over the U.S. I am huge on security and want me and my family to be safe.

However, what security does the TSA provide? It's pretty obvious that any intelligent enemy will continue to change tatics. This became all the more clear to me when the TSA harassed my wife for more than 5 minutes recently about my 4 month old son's baby bottle. It was more than three ounces because he eats more than three ounces, this was a revelation. They also continue to harass me for 'electronics density'.

You can't travel regularly without flying airlines. Terror is something pretty straight forward and it's being inflicted on america every day by the TSA. We are no safer.

Best case I can always go through security with just my book and my boxers. (they'll search my book for cellulose density) I'll then superglue my face so I have no expression and do the robot through the airport.

  13. Trade Wars 2002 on Star Trek Legacy Review · · Score: 1
Why is it so hard to make a good Star Trek game?

TW2002 was a great BBS door game from the late 90's. I never met a trek fan who didn't love this game. You primary task was to trade at stations, get better ships, colonize and arm planets, and attack other players. I only remember it having the Federation and the Ferengi. You could even conquer the Ferengi homeworld called Ferrengal (not Ferenginar).

It had a wide and dynamic galaxy with secret routes, large planets, and big honkin' space guns. As a developer now I think back and overall it couldn't have been that hard of a game to design and write.

Even though the game hasn't changed it moved out of the BBS world a few years ago. You can run your own copy of Trade Wars 2002 via the Trade Wars Game Server on the internet.

  17. Success! on Star Trek Legacy Review · · Score: 1

    - Are there any Trek games that you think have really succeeded? I tend to define the success of a Star Trek game by how many times I've gone back and played it over the years. I feel like Birth of the Federation succeeded, although Microprose died. It's a real shame, for such a great, complex, and true to trek game to have not been followed up. However, I'm afraid if it is ever followed up, as we've seen once again with Legacy, the bottom line will be more important than quality of the game. Other trek game I like to re-visit: Armada II SFC III Away Team (don't laugh) Bridge Commander Now, if someone could just merge Birth of the Federation, Master of Orion II, Bridge Commander, Away Team, add in a good story line about the Iconians, allow all known trek races including minor ones, great cut scenes, dynamic star systems, ships, and heavy mod capabilities... then I could sleep at night.

Programming jobs may become harder to find in large corporations. However, smaller companies will usually hire locally. That probably won't change much. As for the large scale off-shore dev, it's heavy underway now and you have to have xp and be pretty good to make it as a pure dev in a large scale environment. Thankfully, one way or another, dev management in large environments will always learn that -you get what you pay for-

Yep, season 1 they tooled around and got to know the ship and crew. Season two they finally got some action, major damage to the ship and Romulans. At the end of season two they went into this region of space no one returns from looking for a race that attacked Earth. All of season three was them searching for the Xindi (sp?). Finally, at the end of season three they found the Xindi and made peace. The Enterprise was basically wasted in the process, nice effects. Season 4 they realized the show was in serious trouble and started addressing things like the Vulcan high command being asses and Vulcan's needing to return to peaceful ways. Also, they went into some detail about the Andorians and the beginnings of the Federation between Earth, Andoria, Vulcan, and one other race I can't remember. The Romulans got in there and stired up some trouble with a holo-ship instead of cloaking. Overall season 4 was pretty good, though too late to save the show.
