  1. What a nice addition to a Spiderman Costume on Robo-Gecko Climbs Glass · · Score: 0

Just imagine if this technology could be integrated into a Spiderman costume for this Halloween! Someone could actually really look AND climb like the wall climber himself! If they had some containers of webbing they could even spray people from up above. Of course there would be legal issues to deal with because probably someone would be climbing too high, fall off a wall, and then sue. Personally, I think some products should be able to have a label on them saying if you open this and do something stupid to get yourself hurt it is your own fault. However, I think a Spiderman costume with this technology imitiating the natural features of the Gecko would be the STAR of any Halloween Party! I wonder if the makers of this technology are planning anything special for this Halloween!

  2. Re:Important distinction on Drug Found to Aid Vegetative Patients · · Score: -1, Redundant

Do you remember the case of that poor woman in Florida who had her nutrition tube removed and who was slowly starved to death? I think her name was Terri Shrivo. Her parents desperately fought to keep her alive, because she could make sounds, move her limbs, keep solid eye contact on someone, some nurses had signed affidavits that they had secretly fed her jello against the wishes of her husband, and even at times attempted to speak (although it usually was not very clear at all). Despite the fact she was NOT brain dead her husband successfully had the courts order the feeding tube removed and Terri passed away after several days. It was downright horrible and state approved MURDER. Ths drug could have helped her have a normal life, but she did not live long enough to ever have the chance to try it! Following her case many other examples of situations came up where individuals who were NOT brain dead had their feeding tubes removed by family members. It is something that happens more often than most people realize. There are lots of people in nursing homes and many of them are simply not given the chance to live.

  3. Thankfully the RSX will last for years in the PS3 on ATI, NVIDIA Launch New Chipsets for Socket AM2 · · Score: 0

Nvidia is a good chip maker and so is ATI. I have admiration for them both, but with every new graphics chipset, GPU, or other device they release I become more frustrated. Basically, there is no way to ever try and keep up with PC hardware and have a dime in your wallet. I have in the past desired to upgrade to a faster more powerful GPU, but could never afford to do so. Basically, I am sure this new chips will work great. But I think I will purchase the PS3 with the RSX included so that I won't have to worry about upgrading every few months. Doom 3 is an awsome looking game, but it also depresses me to know that to get the very most out of it a user would need to upgrade to a SLI setup. At least with consoles Metal Gear Solid 4 will look the same being processed by your PS3 as it will on everyone elses PS3 (if of course you had the same quality of display).

  4. Computer literacy with OS other than Windows. on What Should One Know to be Truly Computer Literate? · · Score: 1

My personal opinion is that computer literacy rates would drop down tremendously if the test was with any OS other than Windows or perhaps Apple's OSX. The average Joe like myself has used windows for a long time and knows a little about OSX. But if I was introduced to Unix, Linux, or some other OS probably I would be totally lost. The average person that surfs the web, writes email, installs a few programs, plays a few games, and is not studying for a career in computers probably would not be able to do any of the above in anything other than Windows or *maybe* Apple OSX. I think schools should have a computer classroom that includes multiple operating systems instead of mainly featuring windows. Then the true literacy rate would really begin climbing.

  5. Until we have super soldiers numbers will matter. on Winning (and Losing) the First Wired War · · Score: 1

The truth of the matter is that in war numbers will matter far more than advanced technology. When our government starts putting soldiers in exoskeletons that have full armor, allow them to fly, and have super strength among other features things might start to change. But when you are searching from room to room, house to house, or building by building and there are simply numerous places to hide super advanced wireless communication technology will not help you out that much. It is better to have it than not have it of course, but numbers will stay an important issue for quite a while. Personally, I don't think we should have ever went to Iraq. There are far too many other important issues that should be addresed among other reasons. But lets say hypothetically we went into Iraq and wanted to win. To win the war we should have not dispersed the standing Iraqi military. They were the ones that knew the lay of the land, where the weapon depos were located, who would probably resist, and so fourth. If you could bribe them with fat paychecks and assurance that if things went badly in Iraq they would have a place to live in the USA then they would surly have been helping out.

  6. Re:Security or economics? on US Government Fears China Bugs Lenovo PCs · · Score: 1

You are absolutely correct that China produces so many of our parts for laptops and other devices that they have already had a tremendous opportunity to spy on our nation. However, the whole spy game is such a huge farce anyway because we already know the US is spying on China and a whole host of other nations and China is obviously doing the same. With modern technology becoming so advanced we know they are delving deeper than ever into all of our lives. The so called "wire tapping" scandal so many people have been talking about is only the small tip of a much larger iceburg. Also, do most computers in China use windows? Obviously! So for all we know the USA could be using Windows OS to spy on China all the time, and probably are. However, once again, China is doing the same thing. Both sides will act paranoid and make irrational press releases just about trivial matters just to coverup and distract people from the big issues they don't want them to know about. If the people of China and the US really know how much they were being spied upon there would be massive but hopefully peaceful demonstrations all over the place. These governments know how to manipulate the masses and have been doing a great job keeping them ignorant of just how deep the spying goes.

  7. There are lots of places that are bad to work. on Apple and Nike Team up for iPod Shoe Interface · · Score: 1

I feel bad for anyone working in a sweatshop, but unless they were forced to work there against their will then I cannot say a company is evil for contracting a company that uses sweatshops. Of course I would love it if every company paid their employees well, took proper care of them, provided good healthcare, and so fourth. But there are many companies all around the world that mistreat their employees and it is not limited to sweatshops in asia, china, or elsewhere. If I see a good produce for sale and I have the money I am going to purchase it. Because if you buy almost any product obviously someone that worked for that company at some point has been mistreated. I can't say I have ever worked in a sweatshop, but even I have been mistreated. I can't say anything horrible has ever happened to me, but there have been things that were very unfair. Yet I will still buy goods from those places, because I realize when you get down to it there are many other places that have done the same.

  8. Re:in other words on Microsoft Launches First Shared Source Contest · · Score: 1

You could consider it working for them without *really* working for them or you could consider it as getting the opportunity to participate in a cool contest, design some really neat applications, and probably get some good name recognition that could help lead to a really good job. For all we know the winner of this contest might actually be offered a job by Microsoft if they seem to be talented enough. Also, the prize package would be pretty valuable to many underpaid programmers. Depending how much time it took to produce the award winning application the prize and fame might not be enough to justify the cost. Personally, I think if someone thinks the contest looks interesting and they have the time they should go for it and see what they can produce. If nothing else it will give them more experience in the field.

  9. This could be an amazing discovery! on Drug Found to Aid Vegetative Patients · · Score: 0, Troll

This could be a truly amazing discovery that could benefit many people. Just think of all the people who have had their nutrients cut off by their loved ones that could still be alive and functional today if they had access to this drug. It could provide hope for people who have been in comas for short periods of time, or long periods. Also, coming out of a coma is a very slow process and is not a sudden awakening. I wonder if it could help people recover more quickly from a coma? There is also obviously the danger that some people might want to take this drug for cognitive boosting effects which would not be a good thing if it was not highly tested before hand. For every drug that has a great benefit someone will want to use it for something else. Of course this is not always bad, but people need to be very, very cautious and realize that abusing drugs is not worth the risk personally, to someones health, or legally! Obey the law!

  10. UMD's just cost too much! Period! on Everyone Hates UMD · · Score: 3, Insightful

In my opinion UMD movies just cost too darn much, period! I purchased a PSP several months ago and purchased a couple of games. Basically, I like the system but don't like the prices. When I look at UMD's I then go over and check the prices out for full DVD's and realize that I would be better off purchasing a DVD. I think what would really have made UMD's successful is if their price was so affordable you could buy lets say 5 of them for the cost of one DVD. If that had been the case I think people would have started gathering huge collections of UMD movies. But when you have to choose between a DVD movie and a UMD movie in reality unless you are someone that never has time to sit down and watch a movie the DVD is the way to go. For example, hypothetically if I rode a bus back and fourth to work and never had many friends over then UMD movies might be the way to go. But if I am going to ever want to watch the movie with friends or watch it on a bigger screen then I won't have the option. I really like the idea of UMD's for the PSP. Also, I would love it if you could purchase episodes of TV programs such as battlestar galactica on DVD's for a few dollars. If that was the case I would have many by now. But once again, the price point is simply too high for many people.

I don't listen to a lot of music myself, but hate the fact that so many innocent people are being needlessly persecuted when they were not after one dime of profit. Go Pearl Jam!

One of my main concerns about Apple's laptops were that they seemed to have an underpowered CPU and a slow BUS. However, it seems that with the MacBook and MacBookPro these concerns are relieved to some degree. The ProDuo chip would be plenty fast for me.
