Well, I can sum up a Vista to Fiesty comparison with some first impression quotes made by my fiance and by a Windows admin. I got a brand new Vista laptop a month and a half ago. HP TX 1000.
Vista: Fiance's first comment was "Why is this so slow?"
Fiesty: I showed a Windows admin Ubuntu. First comment loosely translated from Korean: "Woah!!" Second comment: "Does this come in Korean?".
Now as far as performance goes Fiesty runs faster from the live-CD than Vista runs from HDD.
Comparison over. Conclusion: I should have gotten a mac and dual booted with Linux instead. =(
That's funny. I downloaded NS8 and it wouldn't load 30% of pages regardless of whether I chose FF or IE as the rendering agent. The pages would just turn up white or white with a bit of writing on the top of the page. That's the reason I tossed it. Aside from the point that it didn't load pages it had some great features.
Besides, while doing a computer science project I actually discovered that MS actually licensed the NS code to create IE. So I tend to think of IE as a really bad version of NS. So everyone still uses Netscape!!! (Actually in reality they probably re-wrote all of the code for IE by now, but still, it's funny that MS used their "photocopiers" to create IE.)
I heard a lot of good things about this program so I gave it a try a while back. I honestly didn't like the results that I saw when using it to clean an infected PC. Having run a PC fix it shop of my own for some time I still prefer tools like Spybot and Ad-Aware, among other really good programs out there. Too bad that Microsoft bought Giant, that was a great spyware scanner too.
Piracy insn't the real problem at all. The Canadian Record Industry Association, the Canadian version of the RIAA, did a study that showed that the people who download/pirate the most music are also the ones who buy the most music. I've bought so many CD's because I got to hear new bands via a P2P program. P2P is free advertising in my opinion, especially for lesser know bands. I believe that the same is true for movies. As far as I'm concered they're making suck a big fuss because of greed. Simple. The big rich companies have monetary targets that they're trying to beat, in order to become even richer, that they'll do anything for an extra buck.
Plus, why would I buy a DVD with regional encodings??? I've lived in Sweden, Poland, Canada, and Korea. I might be making another move soon. Does that mean that I need to rebuild my DVD collection every time I move??? What's up with that?? If I buy a movie I want to be able to watch it, period. Regardless of where I am.
