I believe that the real "treasure" on the moon is helium-3 isotope. Just isn't present in sufficient quantities on Earth, and it could be the next big power source.

I can totally see this -- a cluster of laptops.. err.. kids.. cranking or pulling away, but no, they aren't powering their laptop... The electricity is instead routed to a high-speed fan that's blowing over the local overlord.

Well, knowing windows, you could probably alt-tab into it.. but there'd surely be no way to alt-tab out of it. Why, why would anyone want to alt-tab out of Windows? (question MS developers would ask themselves)

  5. Improvements vs. limitations on Latest Vista Build Making Real Progress · · Score: 3, Interesting

I wonder how much time is really spent on fixing bugs and improving the system overall, as opposed to putting in various limitations and DRM compliance. Maybe I'm going on a limb out here, but I've lost trust in Windows platform ever since the WGA hit the news. Most likely XP is going to be the last MS-based _personal_ use OS I will ever use (hopefully).

Well, the Russian mob is a lot more complicated than just plain old identity theft -- that's really small beans.

I guess they are almost pushing so-called hackers to either
      a) commit identity theft (for real, and just pretend you're someone else, so you can get ANY decent job. Let's face it, if you're smart enough to give someone grounds to accuse you of "hacking", that means you can at LEAST make average salary - say $40-50k in US or 20-30k GBP per year. But show me a job where you don't use email or computers for that? A job that a would-be "hacker" could do (not talking about construction, etc here)
      b) Just move to a different country and try your luck there. I've met plenty of shady people in my travels as a tourist and on business in the "emerging markets", a lot of who, I firmly believe were not in those countries because it was their leisurly choice, but simply because they had to run away from the law (alimony, debts?) back home.

Is this really what the gov't wants in the UK?

  8. Didn't we see this from McAfee regarding linux? on Windows Vista still Rife with Insecure Code · · Score: 1

Do I recall a long time ago that McAfee came out saying that because linux was open-source, it was less secure, hence they saw a "need" for commercial McAfee antivirus programs for linux "real soon"? This was before the .com bust, but I'm not sure I've seen a McAfee Antivirus: Linux edition yet. Not to say that Vista will be as secure as linux, just pointing out the relative "value" of such statements from antivirus companies.

The review states: Before you get all excited about the prospect of dedicating 96 pixel shaders, 2GB of memory, and 1.1 billion transistors to pumping out boatloads of eye candy inside your PC, however, there's some bad news. NVIDIA says Quad SLI will, at least for now, remain the exclusive realm of PC system builders like Alienware, Dell, and Falcon Northwest because of the "complexity" involved. Did it mention anything about having to have a direct supply of electricity from your local Three Gorges Dam as well?
