In my understanding (which may or may not be valid), the Net Neutrality issue is mainly about limiting or increasing bandwidth on the client side, not the server side. Websites (servers) can choose an ISP of their desired upload speed already.

If I had mod points, i'd mod your comment Insightful. When thinking about this Net Neutrality issue, I hadn't considered the obvious fact that some ISPs could advertise "Net Neutrality" on their service. Those of us who prefer a 'net neutral' connection would simply sign up for the right ISP. The only problem with that, is with people like me who live in the middle of nowhere and only have 1 or 2 large ISPs available in their area.

In the end, though, you're very right - it's definately better not to create more useless laws where they are not necessarily required.

Thank you for the insightful post. I'm a 19 y/o Type 1 Diabetic, and have had to deal with many of the situations you wrote about in your post.

Type 1 Diabetes is not fun to have, and it's not something to be shrugged off. I'm sure that some diabetics experience less problems than others, but it's not a disease to be shrugged off as if talking about a wart or a cold. My life is a bit more complex now than my pre-diabetic life; Every day I must constantly keep track of my insulin, food, and exercise, and that creates limitations. I have to do a lot of extra thought and planning when going out of the house, doing something different in my regular schedule, etc.

It's easy to forget a small detail and then have a bad blood sugar because of it. I decide to go for a longer walk one day, and in the middle of the night I wake up with cold sweats and pounding heartbeat, drag myself to the kitchen and find out I have a very low sugar. Have to eat in the middle of the night which isn't enjoyable for me, and then brush teeth etc and get back to bed and try falling asleep again.

Or hanging out with friends, and not adhering to a strict schedule, also causes problems and confusion as to diet and insulin planning.

I really hope some cure can be found, because I'm not particularly fond of the idea I may have a shorter lifespan, am a likely candidate for a heart attack when I'm older (3/4 diabetics die of heart attack), might have to get legs amputated, might go blind, etc.

    Great post.

I am also a professional Flash / Flex developer myself, and can easily see programmers making excel-like spreadsheet apps, database management programs and such in flash, which could run inside any browser. The language is a lot more powerful than many people realize. Sure Linux compatibility is a bit outdated, but I expect that to change in the near future.

By the way, the Flex 2.0 SDK (compiler) is free on Adobe's website. Great deal if you ask me! You can have a full Actionscript development suite using FlashDevelop (free IDE) and the Flex SDK.. or by using the free Eclipse IDE.

It disturbs me how often people seem to change "Theory" into "Fact".. We haven't scientifically proven and nailed down a true 'cause' of Type 1 Diabetes. There have been many studies, and evidence showing many possibilities of what could cause the disease. One thing I always see people assuming is that there is exclusively one problem causing Type 1 Diabetes! There could be 20 different things which cause the disease, for all we know. Say Joe gets stabbed in the pancreas.. Joe's pancreas may fail and stop producing Insulin, which == Type 1 Diabetes. Scar tissue could form somehow around the Islets of Langerhans and block insulin production. There are many options, and who really knows if there is one general cure? Now, the parent poster is touching on an interesting subject.. holistic healing, nutrition, and exercise. I believe that regarding these areas, there is potential of healing or cures for diabetes. I am a Type 1 Diabetic myself, and went on a 100% Raw Vegan diet (with well-controlled nutrient/mineral-intake and necessary supplementation, of course) for one year, and had seen improvements in my blood sugar and insulin requirements. A few months ago, I read the book "pH Miracle for Diabetes" by Robert O. Young, and have been carefully eating a simple vegan diet inspired by his diet ideas (since March 2006). I have seen massive improvements in general blood sugar stability, and have been able to reduce my insulin from 30-34 units a day to 14 units a day over these last few months. If any diabetic is interested, I eat a lot of greens, a lot of steamed veggies (Kale, Collards, Broccoli leaves and stems, Green Beans) and natural fats (Avocado, coconut) which results in a low-carb diet with sufficient calories. I also drink a few litres of water and/or juiced celery every day. So far, my insulin requirements are still on the downward trend, and I am hoping for the best. Here's another person who (last I heard) is on 8 units of insulin a day, following similar diet principles. My doctor, of course, scoffs at any notion of healing Type 1 Diabetes, but I know of a few people who have healed or greatly improved their Type 1 Diabetes based on diet and exercise principles. I'm sharing my experiences here because I feel some people may be interested in hearing it.

I have been using NPH with both 30 and 32 gauge needles with no problems for 1.5 years. The day-to-day difference in how much you draw up into the needle isn't that big - the important thing is to make sure you mix/roll/shake the vial enough (about 20 times seems to work well) that it's a uniform solution. I know though that some diabetics are lazy and don't mix it well enough.

How about when we start seeing realistic flowing clothing on 3d models; will they always be barbie dolls? In my opinion, anyone smart enough to install the mod for the game surely also has the skills needed to access pornography on the net. I'm seriously against the flawed justification for this rating change.
