Two reasons basically - Intel (and coincidentally Broadcom and Marvell) do make the more functional and high performing network chips in the industry, and they are really not that stoked about releasing driver and firmware source code which exposes the inner workings of these chipsets and IP cores.
Yeah, but that's the whole point. They don't NEED to release the firmware open-source. The firmware is on the chip and can stay there. The only thing the community needs is the documentation and API hooks to talk to the firmware. Open-sourcing the actual driver is nice, but not even necessary. Just give us the correct documentation to talk to the thing and/or it's firmware.
Global warming and cooling HAS happened over the eons. However, it naturally takes centuries to occur and animals have to time to let natural selection take its course. Man-made global warming is happening in the span of a human lifetime which is far, far faster then most species can adapt, especially ones like penguins who have maybe one or 2 chicks a year. All bets are off if you're talking bunnies, insects and bacteria.
One limitation is that you choose your faction at the moment you create your character, not through the quests that you choose. It's interesting to imagine how the game would be different if someone could choose to join the Defias or Bloodsail Buccaneers or the Venture Company by accepting certain quests. Sure, some quests let you gain reputation with certain factions, but the game doesn't really force you to choose one side or another through your actions.
My one big problem with WoW is that it is to black and white, but the PvP is to "care bear". The Alliance is supposed to hate the Horde and visa versa, yet unless you go into battlegrounds on a PvP server it really is hard to have a good fight. Also, it's impossible for a Alliance char to get in with good with the Horde. I'd like to make a fallen Pali or whatever who turned to the Horde, etc...
The game overall is just a care bear fest. If I want to go up and whack the grand marshall with my carrot and get my ass killed and my faction towards alliance lowered then so be it. Of course, make it so that a newb really has to try and do this, not just a accidental right click or something.
I think EVE Online has the PvP and world politics perfected, now they just need to make combat more interesting and less of a click and let the computer do everything. It gets kinda boring and mining is a sleep fest. *sigh*..the game that has the politics and PvP of EVE and the combat, world and interaction of WoW set in a Shadowrun type universe will have me playing forever...even better if they have a native BSD or OS X client:)
One can get around this by buying a non-subsidized phone, one that is completely vendor neutral, but these cost considerably more, to the point of making it economically unappealing.
anyone got any links about more info on doing this?
Perhaps the actual app changes, but the same functionality is the outcome...

HTML is NOT a vital companent of email. What MS porridge were you raised on? HTML has absolutely nothing to do with email and email works 100% fine without it.
Don't read your email in HTML format. Problem solved. a) There is nothing to be said in email that can't be said in plaintext and b) I really could care less to see your smiley face sig and pretty flower background.
You misunderstand me. I have no problem with Debian sticking to their guns and I applaud them for doing so. However, to use your analogy, they really need to make an ammendment to their constitution. Firefox is gaining a brand and some recognition as a brand. The last thing Mozilla wants to do is have people install a Debian tweaked Firefox, still labeled as Firefox, and then have things not work right even though they work 100% correctly in the Mozilla version. Since probably the biggest, newb friendly distro is Ubuntu this could really shoot Linux in the foot.
A scenario: Newb user comes over from Windows and wants to try out Linux. He loads Ubunutu and looks for Firefox..can't find it. Finally, he finds the debian version and then tries to install an extension or a plugin or something. Dogh, it doesn't work. Newb user gets frustrated with this shitty Linux and goes back to Windows. Of course, you'll say well he should RTFM or search forums until he finds the problem. Well, sorry..most people don't have the patience or know how to do that.
WTF are you smoking? Of course Linux distros can use the logo and the browser. Some distros however, *cough* Debian *cough* stick to an ideal a little to stringently.
No, Firefox is finally getting some name recognition and when people install Ubuntu or whatever they will be looking for "FireFox" and not whatever name Debian comes up with. It's a "brand". Linux splinters everytime someone has a little tiff and people wonder why there is no marketshare. The brand gets so splintered that any newb trying to figure out what to run is totally lost and yes, the Linux community needs newbs.
Debian really needs to get the stick out of their ass. It's a great server distro, but if they want any sort of desktop marketshare then they have to change. Ubuntu better tell Debian to shove it and include the logo and Firefox as Moz wants them too otherwise you're just going to confuse people. Not everyone wants to read Wiki's and forums to figure out that the browser they have is indeed Firefox.
In addition, so Debian starts patching and they start breaking extensions. Hmmm...people get pissed and stop using the browser and then stop using Debian cause the browser sucks.
Well, I would have to say there isn't anything "amazing" about Debian either. They both just work. As for the ports being bleeding edge? No, I would say they stay caught up with the latest "stable" releases from the respective projects, but they sure aren't bleeding edge.
I would say for 90% percent of the people it breaks down to this:
The people who are going to see a movie in the theatre will see it in the theatre even if the DVD is out already. This could be because of the special effects, sound, social outing or they just like expensive popcorn? The people who will wait for the DVD will wait.
If the theatres really want more business then lower the price of the popcorn, the tickets and show some good movies vs. over-charging and showing some crap movie on 20 screens.
I don't get why people dump on Theo all the time. Yeah, he really could use a PR manager at times, but all the threads I've read he usually is right or standing up to what he believes is right. Can Theo be a dick about it? Yeah. Can Linus and Stallman be dicks about the kernel and the GPL? Yeah. Get over it and maybe send them some money for this OpenSSH thing we all use.
Is this the hidden reason for the US / ICANN to keep all the nameservers internal to the US? I have a better idea. Why don't all the churchy, right-wing dipshits go suck it and try and educate their children that yeah, that's porn. It's a naked woman / man / donkey and some people enjoy looking at that stuff. Junior might talk about it at school the next day, but it isn't going to scar him for life. Of course, taking personal responsibility is just too hard.
Yeah, I love the fact that the colonel sitting up in NE Stranglethorn Vale is basically a copy of Kurtz from Apocolypse Now. The dialog and quest descriptions always gave me a chuckle.
The problem is that the 80% market share distro will be pushed towards the lowest common denominator. IMHO distros like RedHat and Suse blow chunks, they hold your hand to do everything and almost force GUI usage upon people. Docs for editing a text file are non-existant. I tried to install Novell's Enterprise server and was really suprised how bloated, fat and clunky it was. Novell really needs 2 options: a) I'm a ex-Windows Server user and need GUIs to make my world go around. Please install a fat/bloated Linux for me and b) I don't mind using a text editor or ncurses interfaces to config my system and reading some good docs to figure stuff out. Everytime I install them I end up running back to FreeBSD for servers and crying myself to sleep wishing hardware companies / SUN (where is this universal Java thing you speak of??? release a JDK already) / etc... would get up and smell the coffee.
Isn't the Xgl competing with Cairo? So, again we have 2 different ways of doing the same thing? Yeah, some people see this as good..but at this level isn't this just a waste of resources?
Exactly. Say we run a small-time website and happen to start hosting some funny-ass video which then gets posted on Slashdot. How am I, as the web hoster, supposed to control what traffic comes down my pipe to me and from whom? It's going to make internet routing a hell hole. Has this VP even talked to his engineers about this? I'm no routing expert, but figuring out how to charge for content per song, etc... is going to induce a shitload of overhead in the IP stream. If it isn't done universally, then they're basically paying / receiving extortion fees to the people who can afford to pay and the rest of us schlubs get bent over the table. Not that that is anything new in corporate America, but I just don't see how this would work. So, I pull some files from non-US sites... is the next step setting up national firewalls ala China?
Never had an issue with VIA chipsets. Nvidia chipsets blow for use on a non-Windows platform. They work, but barely and who knows when they change something to break support. Also, why do they put a firewall on the BIOS lvl? Nvidia chipsets scare me with all the "extras" they put on there.

They could have still refused the offer? Basically, Bungie's greed got the better of them is what you're saying?

Darn it. I just had it replaced too.

That's because the state can't regulate it, can't get their skim off the top..so it must be bad.

you're point #2 is now void. Go to the freebsdfoundation page, download the JDK or JRE for 6.0 and then do a pkg_add and you're done. Viola! Java!
Has Linus been taking notes from Theo?

Try Bacula instead. It works like a charm.
