I'll play devil's advocate here. Why is that so wrong? Because you can't do that? Jealousy? Unfairness? As much as we bandy about the broken copyright system, that is its purpose. For 15 yrs you were supposed to kick back and collect a monthly royalty check. So Sonny Bono bumped it to lifetime in Congress. Again why is that wrong?
As much as I respect musicians for wanting to learn more about their craft, going to college to learn it is as pointless as going to get a degree in liberal arts. music is either live street performances (bars, concerts, live mike) or recorded. Anything else is pissing away money you don't have. The only thing a college masters in music is good for is teaching it in college.
Really? And you have made how many albums? Music has to be written. Lyrics and the actual competition has to be synchronized. So while you are suggesting that being in a recording studio consumes less time than anyone other full time job, let me burst that bubble. I know musicans and actors. The ones on TV actually work 12 hour days. You know Glee? Those actors have to record music, learn choreography, dance, learn lines, act, block, do makeup and hair and costume all in a day. There day isn't done until the shoot is. I know anyone would bitch if suddenly their day is 18 hrs long for 5 days. So before you compare your apple to dragon fruit know what you are referencing. I assure you all creative types work harder and longer than any 'Full-time' job. We all look at the big money that the high end musicians get. So does Zoe. I am sure she would love $1 off every listen. It won't ever happen. I will be honest. I don't think her music is worth that. I do think others it. However, I do think others do. Yet the totality of the industry is broken. When the only hands in the pie are a single distributor who is asking a single fee and her then she will see more money. As long as 20 hands are in the pie and others will get pennies.
Seriously, what year is this? If websites can still drop an executable onto a users machine with nothing more than a drive-by then clearly the problem is much more than just a question of ads of no ads. Why do operating systems and browsers still suck?
Because Microsoft hasn't finished committing suicide yet. When IE finally approaches 0% then the suckage will start to lift. Oh before you bitch about Microsoft bashing, they just killed off Direct X. Ballmer is driving it into the ground faster than an exploding 787 battery.
If that happens then it will simply disappear. People are inherently lazy and miserly. However, its to eazy to control people with entertainment so this will never happen. What needs to happen is the concept of acceptable losses. Those that refuse to pay, would have done so to begin with, Those who do so allow it to continue.
WTF is an "extinction EVENT" and how TF does it differ from an extinction? Just out of curiosity, when you use the toilet, do you experience a defecation episode, or do you take a shit?
Sorry, not meaning to be pedantic, however this Terran revolution presented as an exceedingly lengthy, dysphoric, trans-solar sojourn.
A we are not a democracy, B Swiss pop is equal to NYC alone. So what works for them simply won't work for us. Hell it doesn't even work for NYC. If you want to quote to what works go to China or India who have populations similar to us. No European solution will ever work because none of them are any where near the size of even a large state.
Sorry, who decides what is nonsense? 25,000 people wanted a death star and 125,000 Texans wanted it to be a country again. neither are nonsense. Nonsense is what Piers Morgan spouts every night during his CNN time slot.
only partically true. Now the congress of the US acts in the name of the campaign contributors and special interests who put them there, and is in theory exercising there power. The people who dont vote or contribute to either have no power or say. hell they are worse of that in the UK.
Hey I really wish people who actually look at the orgins of words and what they meant when they are written not what they mean now. For the record, as wonderful as wikipedia is, if you use it as a source in any actual document in any college 9or high school) it won't be accepted. So try again. Republics don't need democracies to function. Its just more convenient. .
You are right. thats what the We the people is. Unfortunately, the founding fathers never anticipated a day where the entire population could petition individually all at the same time. (and for the lulz too) So some had to be created.
I love the fact that robots are killing random strangers in distract countries. Why? Because those distant countries believe that they are the only ones to get to decide anything and they will kill us to enforce it. Also there is no such thing as a victimless crime. You engaging in an activity that harms yourself, you are the victim. Unless you are alone the entire time you are under the influence, others are too. Oh and the clique of Unelected bankers started in 1837 in Europe. So see those robots could kill them too. Finally thats how industry works.
They weren't intentionally pedantic. And we ARE a capitalistic society. There will NEVER be Regulations. Why because people will hide from them. Take the snark elsewhere.
I don't even know what the fuck Instagram is, but a google search that took me all of three seconds turned up
Starmatic Flickr (not web or location based. Functions poorly on a phone) Blipfoto (just now got a app for iphone. No cheesy filters. basically online photo album 23snaps (a private photo sharing app designed by parents, for parents. No twitter or other social media integration) Snapseed (bought by Google) Mobli EyeEm (basically the photofilters) Tadaa Cinemagram (based off Instagram. uses their api) TripColor (travel app, no porn) Snapchat (picture chat, mostly pr0n) picplz (dead) dailybooth (dead) hipstamatic (turn your iphone into a old camera. For hipsters. not free.) step.ly (chinese version) burstn.com Blurtopia (a fusion of Twitter and Instagram) lightbox (dead)
And now I'm bored, because I've already spent upwards of a minute copypasting company names.
I mean does anyone think taking picture of yourself in a mirror in your underwear is a business model? Lets see, Steven Hirsch CEO of Vivid Video does, Lux Alptraum, the new head of Fleshbot does. Lori Greeley, Ceo of Victoria's secret does. Mitchell Mortaza Ceo of Lingerie Football League (now *snikcer* Legends Football league Because of all the backlash) does. Shall I go on?
no it isn't. Instagram is neither a newspaper or a magazine. Its a distribution company. Problem is it gives its product away for free because thats the only way it could start. We live in a generation that the is NO up from free. Even if it was like an Art gallery, that still won't save it. Photos aren't theirs and that is what is being told to them. Oh and that Facebook shouldn't have purchased them.
drove trove: a large number of people on the move carrying a collection trove. Common use WOW, D&D and archeologists. Damn you people never get out. Now tbat we are done with the English lesson, can we get back to the fact that Instagram failed to understand that the pictures weren't theirs to sell and now they are dying?
Actually I don't it will ever happen in the publishing industry the way it happens in Music and movies do to the fact that there are far far fewer writers then the others. We can already get our info out if we want to avoid the process. Example: Fifty shades of Gray was self published. Authors aleays have controlled the bulk of their own rights. Also where it s hard to to sample music and movies until recently, its always been easy to sample a book. Go to Branes and Noble and read the mag on the rack. Download same mag off piratebay read and discover its crap or good. Buy good either in physical or digital The war has touched publishing as it has forced them to realize that the 1% will go their own way and make 100% of the money and produce less without them. So they have to allow self publishing to run without question. Charging big prices for ebooks is never good but its filtering for them. Is it smart? no. Its better than 25 cents off every album when they are selling if for $13 dollars.
And because writing a novel is time consuming, you are paying for the perceived value of the time consumed. The greed bit amuses me. Is it greedy to pay people to go to work, give their sweat into a task? No. People always want to be paid more for their labor. yet when it comes to Content, they always seem to expect it to magically appear and be nearly free. Its a hell of a lot harder to entertain than to do most anything else short of surgery or military work. Should eBooks be cheaper? Yes a little bit. Will they? no. It has nothing to do with copyright violations and distribution violations (what RIAA calls piracy). It has everything to do with mindset. why is my time less valuable than yours? Why is yours less valuable that another? As long as you think, I have no value there is a problem. Thats a core reason why people hate unions. (ie michigan and philly.com) If I could, I would. Just you balking when they tell you they are paying you less, I am doing the same.
Spoken by a person who has never sold any of his created content online. You think I want to? I don't get that choice because I don't have the infrastructure. I have to go through others. For my novel to self publish alone it would cost 10,000. Thats the ISBN number, inclusion into Ingram, setting up the press at lightning source and making copies. Thats nothing to do with editing, marketing or other fun things. So Amazon, and various others do so for less fees. Sure pople can give away free books. However, you are suggesting to me the same thing as if you boss suggested that you come in one day for work and they not pay you, Their excuse they need you labor. Everything has value. I have as an author no objection to you reading my works. I want that, I also want to sleep in my own place, have food and decent clothes. Unlike Music, books doesn't make people money unless it explodes. Rowlings was a fluke, a lottery winner. Even Stephen king and Stephanie Meyer aren't rich. So please go on and think I am pillaging your pocketbook when Amazon wants to charge you $10 for the ebook content and $10 for the physical copy (which will last at least 50 yrs) Music is corrupt. RIAA is evil. Movie industry is evil Books aren;t persay. There is jsut so much crap that no one wants to read that to get to the good. No do the good want to spend all the time on the infrastructure to get that out. Its vicious. I get 25 cents off a 30 dollar books because thats the lowest I could go. So lets see no sales at all and no visibility or visibility and ocassional sales at 25 cents because I have no money for marketing. I will take option two anyday.
E-books are not physical copies of books. They won't last. Your device will eventually die. All of them. If terrorists decide to us an emp, Those digital copies will vanish like puffs of smoke. Thats why buying a physical copy is important as well. Oh and digital copies do not imply ownership regardless how the copy was acquired. Remember that because no system is truly secure and anything can be erased without notice, silently, Burning a book requires a flame. Deleting an ebook can be done while you are using the device its on.
I could feel this trend coming in the air tonight.
Hold on
I've been waiting for this moment, all my life, Hold on
Can you feel it coming in the air tonight, Hold on, Hold on

So you feel UI design is a hobby? No wonder Windows 8 is such a horrid mess.

The internet views regulations as damage and routes around it. Ie: Pirate bay.
