All of the above. I will also put it on top of every mountain around on the old logging roads. I do it on snowmobile, in a 4WD, and heave even driven a motorcycle up on to the top of the mountains. It will serve it's end of days in happiness and tender love and care. My MOS was 3505. I was a professional driver. Other than staff cars?

Yeah... The HMMWV is the best. A winch? Stuck is not impossible and it is funny as hell. You will be yelled at by someone - even if he told you to drive through it. It is still funny. You need a second one to pull it out from anywhere IF you know anything about physics and how to work simple block and tackle. We carry the equipment and the deep water fording kit with us as well as tools to do a field repair.

If you do get one stuck you should see what they use to extract you. I sure as hell hope they do not let me drive that. Oh my... I want to see what gets THAT unstuck.

We can strip them in the wild and cannibalize but they don't all the time. They did more at first and there were very few for sale until recently.

I am like a school girl. I can not sleep. This is something I have wanted for some time. It must be the right one, however. If it is then I will pay his asking price. If not then I reserve the right to walk away or offer a lower sum. I know what I am willing to pay. There will be more and more available. I can wait.

I also want a Moog and an MRAP. I can get the Moog. They will never let me have an MRAP. I can probably get something else from Oshgosh though. Used firetrucks are available often enough. I have no idea what I would do with a firetruck. I am crazy enough to buy one, however. I've given it serious thought in the past. I just do not feel like hitting all the auctions personally to investigate the quality. Maybe I can find someone local to do it for me at a reasonable price? I probably won't get one. It would spoil my childhood.

Heh... So much money comes from the feds. I made a living on it. Literally. I built up a company with over 200 employees in less than 20 years. I then sold it and retired. The parent company now does that and almost nothing else BUT fill government contracts of one type or another - including defense. You can guess who they are.

And no... I did not do it "by myself" and no it does not make me special. It makes me damned lucky. I retired at the age of 49 and you paid me to do it. I appreciate that and continue to pay my share back into society. I'd even go so far as to say that I pay more than my share.

AAM does not pay anything. AMS gives 'points' to review articles but, well, AMS is not so much a journal really. I have only reviewed for those two - mostly the latter. I did publish more in AAM but it was a bit younger then.

At one time, I envisioned my future as being crammed into a dusty old cellar at the edge of campus and being surrounded by walls covered with blackboards. Sometimes I look back and wonder, would I be happier today if I had taken that route then? Then, well, I look outside and see my new BMW is finally in my driveway and think, does it matter?

  12. Re:With those figures ? on Paywalled Science Journals Under Fire Again · · Score: 1

I think one of the complaints is that they do not really cost that much to create, from what I have seen. It is not like there is a lot of payout to peer that do the review - there's no payout in my field. I am not sure about other fields but I have had to delve into their journals in the past and it did not appear that there was a payout being mentioned anywhere. If I review I get AMS points... *nods* I can buy books with 'em, or I could - no idea if I still can. I am pretty sure the process exists still. Of course, well, the AMS is not a journal.

It's math. I am in it for the sin...

This is off-topic but I have been meaning to relate this for a while...

Your username reminds me of when I went to Paris Island. On that first night, it is always night, I arrived groggy and sore from the bus ride. I stood on the magic yellow footprints for the longest time, or so it seemed, while an angry man in an overly starched hat swore and yelled at the group. I mostly ignored it and spent my time on introspection. I already knew the rules and what to expect, I grew up in a family of Marines.

Now, what I did not expect is that my name was going to change. It was time to issue and sign and initial everything. It was time to get measured, prodded, inoculated, and a hair cut... During this time I realized that my name had changed. I had become KGIII One Each as, of course, I was issued one of each for so many things.

It also seemed really strange that they would proceed to chop off all of our hair only to turn around and issue us a small plastic comb. One each, of course. To this day, I still ponder what the purpose of the comb was. I did see one maggot get reamed for not having combed his hair. I am not sure if he had or had not combed his head - I do not think any of us ever did and I do not believe they ever would have been able to tell the difference. Maybe that was the reason they issued the comb.

I stumbled across a movie entitled Three Headed Shark Attack, something along those lines, and it brought a smile to my face when I thought about it and realized that /. would have come up with such a movie premise.

Then, in that light, I started to pay a bit more attention to the movie titles. There seems to be a trend of bad movie titles out there. I do not know if they are bad movies but they probably are. I settled on 6 Ways to Die which was better than I expected.

None of that happened and his work was, generally, fine and he was generally no more productive than his peers.

I can tell you that your statistic is an order of magnitude off - at least. However, I am not going to go find a public citation for it. You can accept an appeal to authority or you can ignore me. It is, I assume I have babbled about it enough, what I did for a living and what my ex-company still does today. At best, you may find you are looking for a parking space for 3% of the time. There is no way, at all, that 30% of the traffic is looking for parking when the amount of traffic that is going to a different destination is just passing through. Not even all traffic in the city whole is going to be looking for parking at the same time - not even close.

You can find specific areas where that statistic may be true and it will only be true for a very specific time - think of an arena where there is a large event going on and then it would be potentially true or even higher. However? Overall? Not even close. It is probably off by more than a full order of magnitude though that number will fluctuate from time to time depending on what the purpose of the traffic is in general.

My god... You could probably not even design something that bad by accident. I mean, yeah - by accident you could not make that happen as a regular thing. You could see it at, say, Fenway Park during the playoffs. Even then, it would only be in that one specific space. At any period of time nowhere near 30% of the people are actively seeking parking. I would be surprised to see it peak at 10%. I would distrust any numbers that said anything contrary and would look heavily at their sources and methodology. Needless to say, I have done some research in this area and have had much more research done on the companies behalf. You can just ignore me if you want - that's fine.
