Put me on your notification list for when you're done, if you don't mind. And I'm expecting you're aware of them - I'm suspecting that you're not using them. :D They actually aren't as bad as I'd expected. They can be hell to pay attention to while driving in traffic. I could probably text a novel while driving and have fewer distractions than I have when listening and driving. I've reached the point where I tend to wait until I'm on the highway or away from traffic before listening. The missus doesn't much care for them so she's got headphones but sometimes she listens politely.

As I said, I'm not so arrogant as to make a suggestion as to genre or narrator but I suspect you'll find some you like. If you're really wanting to feed your addiction AND you spend some time in a car (which I seem to recall you having mentioned in the past - which is why I brought it up) then it might be something to look into.

So you don't want to have a meaningful dialogue and just want to read what you wrote. That's okay but you should just be upfront and honest about it.

And, I politely disagree with your definition of what makes a newbie. The knowledge of other people doesn't matter. What matters, in my opinion, is the time in service.

Would you say that someone who's been a staffer for 20 years is a newbie - even though it's likely that nobody has heard of them? That seems disingenuous unless you're saying they're a newb to football or similar.

It's curious that your assertion is that I get over myself when it's not I who is unwilling to engage in meaningful, objective, and honest discourse. You're free to be you and you're free to levy any accusations you want but it's exceedingly difficult to respect someone who's spouting gibberish as if they, and they alone, are the dictator of definitions.

But no... It is *I* who should get over himself. *sighs* I doubt you've the introspection or self-awareness to see this and want to try anew so I'll skip offering you the chance to do so. If you ever do reach the point where you're able to be honest with yourself, give it a try. It can be a bit painful but the end results are often worth the pain and they may make you a better person.

  3. Nope, as far as I know, if you have a negative modifier then it is not something you can disable in your settings. I have this on good authority - from a poor guy who'd made (I checked) one comment that got them mod bombed into hell. He's limited to something like 4 posts per day and they must be an hour apart.

I didn't believe him so I went through is posts and he really did make one comment - not even a bad comment but it was wrong. It seems some folks took offense and I learned something new.

Just because it stops at -1 where it shows? The -1 mods STILL impact their final kama score. In other words, he was moderated to -100 (or lower) from one comment even though the -1 was all that showed.

He'd made a comment about the TSA only being allowed to search certain baggage and that there were some things you could do in an airport that you can't actually do. You USED to be able to do those things. The bit about the TSA was wrong. He also said it in a way that came off as reading cocky - but I don't think it was, I'd read their earlier posts and really spent some time looking at it.

He well and truly got fucked by the system. He indicates that the notification system had him at at least 100 downvotes - even though it stops displaying them at -1.

I had no idea it was possible but there was proof. I went through a TON of his comments since and prior. He was fairly new, only a few comments prior.

I told him to burn the account and get a new one. I think they're the only one I've ever suggested do that. I have no idea if they did but I hope so. I mean, seriously, he was needlessly bombed. I don't know if the practice continues to this day but it's crazy. He posts at -1 by default, can not change it, and I'm going out on a limb to say that he surely didn't deserve it.

Yes, he was wrong. Yes, he was (seemingly) snooty about it. At the time, it was a very emotionally charged subject. I suspect you can recollect when that was an important and emotional subject for everyone here. But, I don't think he got treated fairly. I think he's the only one I feel sorry for - part of that is from reading his other comments. He's not really snooty, it's just that his writing style is easily interpreted as that. It looks like one person took offense and then the rest slammed on him. He didn't even have a lot of follow-up comments (maybe three or four) and that was the end of his account. He'd only had a few comments prior. He still used the account YEARS later. I didn't discover this person (or their history) until after the start of 2016. Yeah, he's been posting with that limited account and, according to him, exclusively with that limited account ever since.

I gotta respect that part of it.

Again, he was wrong. There's no doubt about it. Part of what he said had been right up until just a little while before the date of his post - as in six months prior he'd have been correct. He said that he got "more than 100 downvotes" (not verbatim) and has been that way since. I think that's unfair but suggested he just generate a new account. He was sort of hell bent on trying to get his account back to normal. If I moderated then I'd have moderated in a biased fashion just to try to help him out. I do not moderate, however. So, that didn't happen.

    That's gotta suck.

Umm... Hmm... You might want to check that figure again. They've got hydrocodone in very low amounts - down as low as 2.5 mg and it's much weaker than oxycodone - the smallest of which that I've seen is 5, 7.5, and 10 mg. They'll get a low-level user a euphoric state but tolerance will be built up quickly. Codeine, in lo quantities, does the same - a 1 mg dose of hydromorphone will get you a decent rush if administered via IV - not so much orally but it will still get you the euphoric state.

It really varies with the person. It really varies with the tolerance. It really varies with history, weight, and chemicals - as well as the number of receptors that are built in - prior to their growth and whatnot.

So, I don't know? In other words, I think it'd be possible to become physically dependent on them but that people would be LESS likely to do so. That's discounting abuses - it's VERY likely that such low doses will not have the desired effect. That WILL lead to abuse. That WILL lead to surreptitious acquisitions. (Probably starting with friends and family and then working to street and, eventually, to harder things as those are often more readily available and that dosage will continue to climb.)

I don't know how many people will "try" to get addicted but you're probably right - there probably will be some. There are those with a genetic predisposition to it - they call that an addictive personality and those people are not often physically addicted (in case you're curious) but have underlying mental issues.

Absolutely. Something habit forming and even addictive does not need to be life crippling. I was a functional user for many, many years. I started using in the end of the 1960s. I stopped using opiates, pretty much entirely, just a few months ago. I stopped using ILLEGAL opiates about a year ago. (I'd been on Suboxone since then.)

I was/am very successful. I am well rewarded and have more money than I deserve. I can continue my drug use with absolutely zero chance of that use affecting my financial situation - I simply make more money by means of my investments than I can even possibly use - I could supply multiple addicts, indefinitely, with just the income from my investment-based income. In fact, I have. I used to keep as much as full 8 ounces of coke on hand (I don't mind coke, I don't seem to be able to get addicted. After a couple of days, I put it away and don't touch it again for a while. I have no idea but it might be because my preference is downers.) I used to order Fentanyl patches by the 5000 lot - yes, 5000. Fentanyl is 80 times more powerful than 100% pure heroin. It's the strongest opiate meant for human consumption that's available from a pharmacy. There's a slightly stronger version that is developed but it is for animal use - largely used for animals the size of elephants.

I found out they were cutting shitty h with Fentanyl and that's when I went and found me some Fent and had a good old time. (I was also smart(ish) in that I made sure to remember that you can put more in but you can't take it back out - I've never once ODed to the point where I needed intervention. - with all those years of use.)

I didn't use via IV until the mid-1980s. I was a snorter, sublingual, and eater. Even then, that didn't scale up until the 1990s - I had work to do. My tolerance got to the point where it became uneconomical to consume it in any other way - I wasn't always financially secure. My retirement seemed to tell my brain that it no longer had to work. As near as I can tell, my use didn't actually increase - it stayed largely the same. It's that something in my brain changed - something that I don't really understand. It's like it said, "Well, I no longer have to be functional. Cool." This also happened with alcohol. I drank longer than I used. I did, with a lot of illness, quit drinking over 3.5 years ago and have remained sober since - I have had as many as two beverages at one sitting since but never more and never frequently. I've probably done so less than a half-d

  10. He does. As I mentioned above, there's an independent documentary with him in it from back when he was in a Romanian prison and not yet extradited. His story is pretty consistent. It's called "The Most Dangerous Town on the Internet." Watch it. Then comment.

What prompted you to make your comment? What makes you think she can't be charged for violating an executive order, for instance? The next bit about statutes? Well, that's not even wrong - it's just gibberish. Finally, I have no idea what the hell you're trying to say at the end.

I've seen you post before and you're not normally retarded. Am I missing something? I mean that, you're literally normally sane and reasonably correct. WTF is this shit from you? It's gibberish - most of it's not even wrong and what is wrong is just so bizarre that I'm not sure how the hell you reached these conclusions.

So, I'm sitting here thinking that I must be missing something - you're not normally retarded. For lack of a better solution, I'm going to have to ask for some citations and, well, I think I'm going to need to see some precedent and court findings - those should be easy to find to support your claim(s). Trust me - I went and looked before typing this. I thought that I must be the one in error.

  13. Just so you know, that bit about the Marines being the only branch of the service to blah blah blah and not needing things like Congressional approval - that's not actually correct. There's some strange misinterpretations going on out there based on "and other orders as the President directs." (I think that's verbatim.) However. No. That's not what that means. Not even remotely.

Now, the Marines might listen - I suppose. I really doubt it. We're sworn to uphold the Constitution and, believe it or not, we take our oath(s) seriously - as we do our traditions. I'm trying to think of a realistic situation in which that might happen and I just can't come up with one - it's never a lawful situation, regardless. And no, this hasn't changed since I was in. I spent eight long years enlisted in the Marines in order to pay for college (and to be able to survive while attending college. I had a family at the time.)

Yet, I oft hear this repeated. I do not know why.

Let me put this to you straight. The President can not, really, just order the Marines to do things willy-nilly. Yes, he is the Commander in Chief. Yes, he's the boss. However, the Marines aren't even their own department - they're a department of the Navy, for starters. I know - it said it clearly on my paycheck. Because of the beating my body took, I'm also eligible for a fair-to-middling (about $1400/mo) stipend for disability. I do not accept that money, I have no need for it and do not wish to deprive others who are more entitled than I. So, I've never applied but I'm told I'm quite eligible. I'm also not positive but I believe *that* money would also come from the Department of the Navy.

No, no the Marines can't be ordered to go hang around and annoy Congress. Well, they probably could be given that order but it would be unlawful and would not be obeyed. There's some reference to it going back to deal with some Barbary pirates but, again, that's taken out of context. This is one of the strangest misconceptions that I've ever come across.

Finally, I could be wrong. I am not omniscient. If you've documentation that shows that I'm mistaken then I'd love to read it. I'm pretty sure you'll only find some opinions and some VERY wrong interpretations by conspiracy nuts. I can't imagine that very many Marines would even listen to such an order even if it WERE lawful - depending on the circumstances but that's a subject for another day and one I don't really feel inclined to discuss with you. (Nothing personal.)
