You seem to be the first one who came to the same conslusion as me...the books themselves are the thing that needs to stay open and available. Whether Google or the Gutenburg Project copies the books is not the issue. So that brings me to another conclusion...there must be some other reason for this...hmmm Who would want to limit Google?
Agreed, that statement is pure BS. Further, the "old RHL" may have been handled badly, but it was not the distro that was going to be pulling people in. My first linux was Suse 8.2, but the last few releases have not worked for me...I have been using Fedora Core since FC1...I have strayed, but always returned to it and find it to be one of the best distros ever. FC6 is truely a great distro, and if it had all the hype of Ubuntu, it would be at the top of the distrowatch list.
no its not like saying that...
It is as I said "don't mix 3rd party repositories" there can be inconsistancies with packaging and numbering. It has nothing to do with not being able to install a certain application.
BTW I have installed non-MS software that has broken my WinXP system...in fact I have installed MS software that has broken my system (sp2 to be precise).
What is intolerable is someone spouting FUD without real knowledge of the issue...your fanboi is showing:O
I agree that I also have had very few problems using Fedora Core (versions 1 thru 6). I don't know how many times this has be said, "don't mix repositories". I only use livna for my FC6 install(also the standard core, updates and extras repos). If you use atrpms or freshrpms don't use livna. This has been an issue from the beginning and it does cause problems. I personnally tell people to only use livna because I have rarely had problems using it as my only 3rd party repository. I can't say the same for the other repositories. Dependancy issues, in most cases, are resolved within a couple weeks.

Not only you can he not spell, he is very wrong...:)
I think there has been shown to be some rather huge errors in his facts (ie. glaciers in Greenland). Anything Gore does is propaganda to the liberal left, first and foremost... It is a transparent attempt to influence people to elect those who take the enviromentalist stance or at least ACT like they are trying to protect the environment. Gore had his time in office and what did he do?
If Gore is the only face on this issue, it is a dead issue.
hmmm...the blind, leading the blind, leading the blind... "he sees doctored pictures of his daughter's head on a naked body posted on the Internet" accck!...now I'm blind
Yep, you are indeed insightfull...that is that is something our extremist politicians need to understand....especially your line "If you find anyone who agrees 100% with another person on some issue, then that person has obviously not bothered to think about it for themselves." Learn to think for yourself...been ranting this for years:)
KDE has worked great in FC1 thru FC5...still downloading FC6. I can't comment on FC6 KDE problems although I suspect they are minor. Fedora has NEVER had mp3 support out of the box, so I am not sure where you are going with that? Setup your repositories with Livna to get the plugins and apps you need, problem solved. Themes can be changed so that kinda makes your other complaint a non-issue.(kde-look.org) I use KDE because I can make it look like anything I want, try that with Gnome (can't be done).
Usenet is full of movies, games, software and mp3s. Small downloads like mp3s are very easy to get...but still are loads of full version softwares available (par files sometimes are needed to complete a set, but in my experience that only happens 2 out of 5 times) It does require that you check daily and download immediately, since retention on most ISP's news service doesn't last for more than a day or two. It would be harder to monitor because all news services get feeds from all the other news services, kinda makes it hard to find the original poster.
Doubtful, you just have a crappy news server...it is that simple...get an account with Giganews or Supernews and you will see a great difference. I am using RoadRunner and although it is not the best, there is plenty on there. I am not going to tell anyone what I have gotten off usenet, but it spans at least 200 CDs...the content is there for the taking.
hmmm...I thought republicans were the racists?
At least this administration has actively brought blacks into the administration, what has any Democratice administration done?
hmmm...Maybe that is what liberals really want?
Hmmm...I guess you just read the most recent book by one of many liberal authors...released right before the elections in a obvious attempt to sway americans. Doesn't it bother you that this is done? I find it funny that liberals have managed to spin the concept of an agenda into a bad thing. What is their agenda? Do they even have one other than "we good, Bush bad"? I am not happy with many things that are occuring in this country, but I know that conclusions of this and many other books, reports....etc are just that, conclusions...theories...feelings. I know it is hard to see through to the real intent of these authors, but they are writers, good writers who have an agenda too. Read the book, but don't let them think for you...ask yourself what is your parties platform is, and if you don't know, find out. Conspiracy theorists get all the attention and always have..that isn't because they know what is going on, they just know people want a reason to blame the problems of our nation on someone or something. These people are our true enenmy...
I don't condone Foley's actions nor did I condone Clinton's actions...I would have gotten rid of both of them. I guess you would have too? If not, you are not being honest with yourself or sticking to your ideals. I guess you only do it when it is not unexpected or inconvenient.
From the article: "By mid-2008, Apple's sales of systems with factory-installed Apple UNIX will exceed the total combined sales of x86 systems factory-shipped with commercial Linux. At the end of the decade, we'll find that Apple UNIX has overtaken commercial Linux as the second most popular general client and server computing platform behind Windows."
uhh...doesn't it do that now? It should be or MAC is in touble not linux. As far as I know there are very few pre-installed linux offerings out there. Most folks who run linux use a machine that originally had windows on it or built the machine themselves. True there are no reliable counts on the number of linux users, but I am pretty sure it far exceeds Mac users. I think the author kind of missed the point of even what he was saying...
Yeah this is not government regulation, it is corporate greed... When I signed up for cable years ago I was promised higher speeds than I actually got...but now this same cable company is selling special "higher speed" connections for about 20-30 bucks more. The bandwith was always there, it was just capped.
Come on now people think about this, Sure the extra info is nice, but it would be a good way to track the content provider...then here comes the RIAA and MPAA lawyers to nail you. Given Sony's track record what do you think their real motivation is?
I have tried to resist, but I can no longer take it. Jack Thompson is making me into a monster. I just want to bash his head in with a bat.
I want money and violent video games(hmmm..kinda like Jack) The money will be used for drugs to calm my inner monster, the games are so I can get out my aggressions instead of tracking down Jack Thompson with my trusty bat...
The best response to this is: "linux is just not that hard" If you haven't tried it, you won't know that and that is the biggest hurdle here. The configuration issues with linux generally revolve around sound, video and wireless. Business users will not have 128+ meg accerlerated graphics cards, so the standard vesa settings will be fine. Sound is not really used that much in a business setting (I have never had sound in a work setting). I can't imagine anyone using wireless in a business setting, especially on old machines. A hard wired network is more likely and more secure unless you have a competant IT staff (which is not likely in a small business setting).
All in All linux would be a good choice for a small business with old win98 machines.
Maybe "crap" is the wrong word....I was answering the question in relation to my experience(I actually had solaris on my machine for more than a hour).
If I was given the choice between Solaris and Linux, I would choose linux (I have been using linux daily for over 5 years). Solaris is definetly not "crap", but I don't see it gaining a large user base.
I hope this helps the Solaris fanboys chill out...and maybe take off the blinders...
Wow, you make a lot of assumptions...
Never lived in a basement, have not lived with parents in 30 years (and you?)
"If you had a goddamned clue you wouldn't have used the default desktop and would have slapped something else on top of it, say XFCE."
Yeah, I did notice it had a rather poor default interface, which I was quite capable of changing...probably ok for "mission critical" applications, but hardly the way to get "new users" those who I suspect they are trying to reach.
Once again the question was "why would you use linux instead?" I answer again, because in order to get me to use it...it would have to be better than what I am already using. I am not using it for mission critical or any other reason other than a OS for my machine. Open Source is great if you have something that folks want to use, I was not impressed.
I am sure you have lots of Solaris experience and praise it daily...but your attitude is childish.
Shall we compare experience? I have installed and tried 30-40 distros in the last couple years, Solaris just doesn't even come close to being a modern and usable desktop OS.
Compared to the linux offerings it is "crap"...if you have no other experience with linux you might think it is the greatess thing in the world.
Apparently you use it, love it and defend it. I think it needs alot of work compared to ANY popular linux distro. So it is easy to see why someone would rather pay than use it....which is the question here isn't it?
Talk about blowing...
ISP are capping bandwith and have been doing it for quite a while. RoadRunner offered speeds up to blah blah blah....etc but i never got more than 2-3 mbit per second...then later upped it to 6 mbit...a little while after that they offered a
faster option for more money!....
and you don't think they had the bandwith all the time?
"Many anti-MS fanboys complain that Vista is nothing more than XP with a new coat..."
