I wish politicians would campaign on their ideas and solutions rather than a huge FUD campaign ( I think we are all familiar with FUD).

If these visitors traveled through interstellar space I am sure they have been to many planets and seen all kinds of life. If you were out looking for life on other worlds, and if you found humanoid type life? I think you might be intrigued. You might want to study it since it mirrors your own humanoid shape and structure. I believe there IS other life in the universe...have we run into it yet? I don't know. Is it likely we will see it? My guess would be "yes".

eat - we breed animals, we cultivate crops, we improve plants for better yields
Why do we do this? to feed those who can not do these things for themselves, to food those who have none...even in the quest for food, humans solve many problems that animals can not.
breed - we have children to carry on our names, our work, our dreams...and animals? Instinct..hmmm
that is effective but that's it.
die - we die for others, we die helping others, we die for a cause....we die a lot slower now that we have medical improvements...better food...animals die for food or lack of it...or just get killed...in disasters,fires,floods...etc. Humans die in these too...but far less since we have
    warning systems, disaster services...etc.

He doesn't want linux to be a platform to run windows software. Wine is a great application, but windows software with a few exceptions is never going to run as well as it would on the Windows OS.
That can only hinder linux adoption by those still tied to windows applications.
The key to linux adoption has not changed...we need software companies to make software for linux.

Shuttleworth has put a lot of money into advertising and promotion of linux...he is doing what needs to be done. The more linux users there are, the more interest software companies will take. Wine is a temporary fix to the bigger problem...it will always just be a temporary fix. These things take time but I think his comments do show a good understanding of the real problems.

I despair for the elections too, but not for the same reasons. As the liberal Democrats continue to implode and show their true selves, this country is becoming the laughing stock of the world. You might think it would be a better strategy to actually come up with some sort of idea/plan of how to fix things in America? When will the Democrats tell us what they are actually goning to do? Granted that there are few linux viri but even if infected, only the users home directory would be affected, as opposed to the entire Windows system.
Yeah, I know there are security measures you can take with windows, but far too many applications have to be run with "admin" privleges...in fact most windows users run as "admin" when they shouldn't. Vista has implemented a permissions system but it is so annoying that it is going to be disabled by most users. They have not implemented application level protections as is done with Selinux.
