It's a concept someone found a way to profit off of. It can exist just fine without business, so MS are pretty much screwed if they try competing with it.
The 100% CPU thing is usually caused by a brain-dead webserver admin incorrectly setting up the server to send them as text/plain (or worse, HTML). Firefox has a hard time parsing several hundred KB of binary garbage and rendering it as text, but then MS notepad is just as bad.
They'd better ban TV and radio broadcast antennas while they're at it.
Hey, why not go the whole nine yards and ban mains electricity? After all, you don't know yet that a 50Hz oscillating magnetic field isn't bad for you!
Windows administration is the burger flipping of the computer industry. It's expected these people will work for less, as the work they do involves little more than taking orders from the screen.
Take the people out of the equation, and any FOSS solution is far, far cheaper.
And you don't even need a domain - GMail lets you use +slashdot@gmail for the same effect.
I get them from there :)
I wipe the trashed windows xp partitions, stick Ubuntu on them and give them away free to relatives. They love it.
x bugs reported and ignored, y bugs not reported at all and not fixed.
The BBC doesn't run ads.
What's wrong with the old term "molecular scale"?

Who else can listen in on all this data?
Here's an idea. They should put it _back_ near his room, without letting him know it's there, and see if he gets "sick" again.

Heh. I didn't even notice the name until I recognised the artificial writing style and saw the "Read More".
10 minutes is an improvement upon the 1 minute people usually care about the subject for while they're voting, if at all.
No, but the main server hosting locations are.
If anything happens with Samba, they can just shift development to a country where patents don't affect it.
Funny, yes, but who the hell modded this informative?
That's about as valid as saying user32.dll has no consistency because it has no widgets.
Got duped to this one in about 30 seconds... and it's over 10 months old.

To me, that says a lot about the brainwashing power of mass media.
Yeah, X has no consistency whatsoever. The GTK-Qt theme doesn't exist.
How about you show me a way to have MS Word, IE7, MS Antispyware, the Add/Remove Programs panel and the rest of windows all LOOK THE FUCKING SAME.
That might be a problem - they just drove one of their rovers into a giant pothole and the other's got a broken leg.
