Well it must not be color or such. But I think he has got a point here:
The overall method of software development has not changed since... I dont know.
( ok, some new paradigms now and then )
Should there not have been a more significant evolution within the process of software development ?
well I think this whole Maya Calender issue is highly overrated.
Everbody is wondering about this 2012 date.
But I say: If the Maya had realy been that prophetic - for them, a calender that ends in the 16th century would have sufficed .
The politicians would never allow common people to have that much freedom. No borders, no passports, no way of stopping people from going where they wanted, when they wanted. And that's without assuming any purpose more nefarious than a cheap weekend in Amsterdam.
I wonder if there was someone a hundret years ago, who said something like this about cars.... I think, if you put some technology into those thing - most of the problems you adress could be solved. Could be some kind of electronically "check-in" when entering special areas or such... come on... I realy _want_ this:-)
there is an interesting comment from a guy named sipu on this page. Basically stating, that china _is_ the worlds biggest market, _because_ of the poor, that do not have cellphones, cars, tvs and such by now, but will buy them in future, as soon as the have climed up the social ladder. This of cause implies that china will continue to develop like it has done till now. But: as the post said there are a few hundret million people there basically living in the 19th century. So there is a small financial and intellectual elite and a large basis of 'others'
I believe, there is a probability, that china will face significant social eruptions on their way up. Is it not so, that many societies with such an enourmouse gap between rich and poor ( or regarding the state of mind of the elite vs. that of 'the poor' ) faced revolutions that threw them back at least a dozend of years ?
when I read posts like this I always wonder, why nobody ever intergrated something like this
http://www.virtual-laser-keyboard.com/
into mobile devices.
I rememder seeing the virtual keyboards when they where first presented on the CeBIT - this is years ago now and it seemed quite promising back then.
would that not be an obviouse compromise for a tablet ? Am I missing some important point ?
I recently watched my mom (generation 60+) struggeling with a touchscreen notebook I once got her.
Having the expectations on Apples Tablet in mind, I wondered if Apple could address the generations of the 'older' ones with such a device:
Basically most 'older' ones ( ok. there are techies amongst them, but for the majority I think its true ) use PCs ( Notebook whatever ) for email, Webbrowsing, maybe a bit of Flickr / youtube and reading a couple of magazines.
When I listen to my mom, most of her problems have nothing to do with what she wants to do, but with the complexity of the interface and underlying technology.
If Apple could produce a tablet that makes the basic popular things you do with a computer easily accessable for extreme non-techies ( like my mom ) could this open up the whole "computer- and internet thing" to the generation of "the old ones" ?
well, dont get me wrong or so... I like and use linux a lot, but....
I just try to remember if there has been any year where this exact prediction has not been made ?
For similar reasons ?
Or am I the only one who has the impression, that every single year is said to be THE year where linux is to get enormous user attention on the Desktop ?
no offense though, one day this year might come:-)
Regards
I believe in Germany there exists a regulation saying that this kind of stuff cannot be patented - to shield the patent offices from the patent request of all those who "invent" some kind of perpetuum mobile (which are believed to be impossible to build ).
are there similar regulations know in other countries ?
