Though I have no evidence to back this up, I think if Asimov had WANTED Hollywood to botch up his stories, he would have encouraged it when he was alive. Instead they wait until he's safely dead and buried.
And whatever NEW challenges you feed your brain must be enjoyable and be challenges that hit on a lot of levels. I took up the fiddle, which is one of the hardest instruments to learn. Right Brain, Left Brain, Dexterity and Body Memory are all challenged on a regular basis. If I keep it going, I just might achieve competency at this infernal instrument right around the time I hit 70. I should also mention that it is addicting, and a great way to get even with the neighbors for their loud rap music.:-) It seems also that there are a whole lotta OLD fiddlers around who are still raising hell.
Whatever you choose to be your new "Brain Food" make sure it challenges you on similar levels. If not music, some sort of art, or craft that involves both intellectual skills as well as physical/coordinational ones is what you need to find. Whether it be rebuilding a classic car from the ground up, or furniture making, or refurbishing vintage audio equipment . . . whatever it is, it's got to be something interesting to you as well as challenging, and that when you start to achieve some competency, there are always going to be new levels to reach for.
"Reporting from the State Capitol of Tennessee, there has been a cut in federal money flowing into the State's coffers, and the reason is a surprising one. This year is the first year in the history of Higher Education that not a single application has been submitted to a single institute of higher education in the State of Tennessee. Federal matching funds for higher education have been cut."
"In a bizarre coincidence, transfers out of Tennessee Universities to Colleges and Universities in other States have seen an unprecedented increase."
The Telco didn't build and didn't plan to until the City decided to beat them to it. Then the Telco sued to delay the City's fiber buildout. Now the Telco has already started deploying, and the City, if it does go ahead, will be behind in deployment and less likely to get a high return on investment-- unless the townspeople speak with their wallets, of course.
The whole lawsuit was a DELAYING tactic. It succeeded. The telco already started laying fiber, so now it will be less profitable by a large margin for the City to do so, since there will be less take-up.
Wow, you didn't automatically assume that any coder is, by definition, a male. Which leads me to speculate that you are either an evolved human being, or a female geek . . .
Okay, so let's get real here. I think since you're so gung ho on nuclear, you should and your family should be the ones who run the next plant . . . and let's see if, in 20 years, you still poke a stick at the anecdotal evidence of someone who right now knows more than you do about the effects on humans of working in a nuclear plant.
My HP All In One will stop working completely if it's out of ink. Even for functions that don't REQUIRE ink. Like Scanning.
Oh, and the plastic tray that holds the paper? Held in place by two tiny little flimsy plastic dimples that are NOT cat proof. They broke off right about the time the warranty ran out.
The drivers suck too. Worse than Norton for taking over a system.
It can also be employed to make the grandaddy of all tinfoil hats, complete with capacitor defibrillators, seti antenna, and that fashionable architectural structure so hot these days . . .
I hate to burst your bubble re "the cult" but most of the true environmental activist people have been pointing up this very fact for years. Just google "peak oil".
"The ethics of throttling are a different matter: one side says they've been promised unlimited, and the other wants to totally forgo any network improvments and buildout that would allow tolerable connection speeds, and block any possible competition of their movie download business."
There, fixed that for you.
Yeah, they're really pushing hard at the State Level. Last year it was called "Cable Choice and Competition" and this year it's "Connected Nation". And I've been g00glebombing to try to take their nice new slogan away, same as I did last year. I hope you help.:)
It's way beyond that. Connected Nation is an Astroturf Group, brought to you by those warm and fuzzy Corporations now seeking RETROACTIVE IMMUNITY for spying on us. So even though they're pushing something that, on the face of it, seems good, you can betcha their version is not the version of broadband that We, The People, want. It's the same version Comcast is pushing. Or AT&T when they censor Pearl Jam. Or Verizon when they censor NARAL.
That's just plain bulldoody. In France they have competition because of regulation (called Local Loop Unbundling) and there are HUNDREDS of ISPs, some of whom are doing so well that they are now building their own fiber networks with NO tax money. They are paying approximately 40 bucks per month for a broadband connection at lightning and SYNCHRONOUS speeds, and included with the broadband subscription is Voip telephony, 99 channels of IPTV, and WiFi.
There was a good reason the state legislation was voted down in places, or amended. The original "Cable Choice and Competition" bills were written by AT&T or Verizon or BellSouth, depending on the state, and there were a lot of them. All those Bills read exactly the same, and had no buildout requirements, trashed public access TV, gave the Telcos total control over muni right of ways, etc etc etc.

Um, you must have missed that huge spectrum auction that took place a few months ago. Too late.

I've heard that this is a planned attack by Big Corporations and the WTO and US Government. :-)
Weaponized Avian Flu
But they'll still make the taxpayers foot the bill as if they're using 747s or worse.
Yes, I RTFA. And couldn't believe my eyes. This is another wacko scheme to derail real climate change remediation, and create a distraction.
"Well, I have no family at the moment." And why doesn't this surprise me? Darwinism at its finest . . .

NJ DINER CHEESECAKE. With those Cherries marinated in Red Food Dye #7. It was my major preggers crave.

I will NEVER buy another HP anything.
Obama did say, after the vote, that he would TRY to get the retroactive immunity struck from it, but the rest of the bill is so Orwellian, it doesn't much matter. He supports the "compromise" that gives the neocons every damn thing they want. http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2008/06/19/obama/index.html Y'all might have an interest in what's being done about this via the ACLU, Libertarians, Progressive NetRoots, Ron Paul Supporters and other Strange Bedfellows. http://bloggasm.com/strange-bedfellows-bloggers-from-the-left-and-right-team-up-with-the-aclu-to-fight-telecom-immunity

Um, I'm sure Elliot Spitzer thought the same thing, since so many politicians routinely buy high priced call girls and never get called on it . . .
So next time you or someone you know is doing something someone in power doesn't like, that's when this law will be selectively enforced.

That is the most succinct explanation of the evils of capitalism I have ever read. Thank you, Ray!

Indiana? The same state in which AT&T is successfully redlining broadband buildout to only RICH neighborhoods?

More on Cable Choice and Competition at the state level.
