That's high quality? The frame rate is still to low to be acceptable. What's wrong with all the blended frames? Is it a problem in their deinterlacing processing?
i thought what MS is doing in China should be called "dumping". other software companies in China should be able to sue MS according to WTO rules.
$3 for a license would kill any domestic or international competitors.
however, MS's investment has been well paid off. MS's research center in China has contributed a lot of technologies in MS's products.
it is hard to cut the line where the cash flow goes.
i think the $3 fee is not true for average users in china. it is probably just an offer MS made only for government-use licenses. otherwise, how can MS get $700 million dollars from china?
i think 1 billion is too conservative given that they can already get $700 million dollars a year from china.
nothing wrong about those numbers, but the conclusion doesn't seem so conclusive.
during the early stage of the development, there will be multiple players, but as time goes on, we usually see a convergence. however, that does not necessarily mean a decline of the development. altough there is no boundary on the net, the web sites in north america, europe, and asia mainly focus on and serve their own market. so a growth in one region won't direclty lead to a decline in another. the conclusion about china also seems strange. the internet penetration and the total number of web sites are still jumping fast. the traffic trend only shows the distrubution of the usage. it has nothing to do with the status outside of the "box".
copyright issue looks like a business activity, wonder why suing a whole country? does that mean china can also sue the US back for not having good enough DRM techniques on the content?
but here are some statistics just for your information:
china's population: 1300 million china's internet users: 132 million china broadband users: 77 million china mobile phone users: 431 million (by July 2006) vehicles sold in china: 7.22 million (in year 2006 only)
china has overtaken japan as the world's second largest car market after the US.
it is all market-driven. it is you, as a consumer who has the demand that will utimately determine when, where, and even how the products are manufactured.

most chinese web sites are designed to be million-request scale. even for some online forums and BBSs that are not so famous, it is not uncommon to always have thousands of users constantly online/logged in.
i don't think any well-known chinese sites can be easily slashdotted.
are not a good and a bad label to judge a person. i believe they are used to judge what a person is doing on a per-case basis.
a locksmith could steal too.
In all major Chinese forums, this has been considered good news and it is also considered a victory of internet.
The topic has been debated for months in all major Chinese forums. The disclosure first came from an anonymous user who claimed he is a former insider of the R&D group. Later, his post was forwarded to all major Chinese internet forums and then reporters from newspaper started to report this story. However, after a month, all the reports have been removed from official portal news sites. So people wondered this guy might be protected by the government since his work used to be appraised by the highest academic authority.
Then more and more detailed information comes out little by little, and finally the government has to form an investigation team to re-evaluate his work. It turns out his current design does not have the capabilities as he claimed, and the first version of his chips are actually some freescale chips he bought. He just re-labeled those chips and claimed he designed them.
Many people have doubted his work a long time ago because their speed of developing a new chip is too fast. People also used to blame this group because they absorb major funding that belongs to the Dragon chip group.
So when the news comes out, we consider this is good news. Of course slashdotters may enjoy seeing it in a different way.

If MS can make their installation package bigger than 100DVD's capacity, maybe they can compete with pirated DVD vendors directly.

isn't it easier just to build a "real" artificial sun?
don't know where your figure 98% comes from.

Overall, Chinese vehicle sales jumped 25% during 2006 to 7.22m units.
now you tell me how you can explain your number 98%.
this is the question you should ask yourself.
do you need cheap consumer products from china?
it is all market-driven. it is you, as a consumer who has the demand that will utimately determine when, where, and even how the products are manufactured.
he designed the Cray XMP in US, now the one he worked on in China is a new design.
i think what you meant should be "his technology"...
china doesn't have the complete control over NK. Russia does... NK only uses china as a supplier, but treat the Russia as its ally...
at least he knows or implies censhorship is a shame.
