Please explain the press freedoms the UK lacks and how that would mean The Guardian can be leaned on.
The paper isn't owned by a large corp, unlike so many in the US. Also, you're deluded if you think the UK govt would do the US a favor and "play ball" by somehow gagging Greenwald & Co.
Cameron's government is on shaky enough ground as it is without them trying to threaten journalists at the behest of the US. You're not thinking.
I'd imagine they blocked The Guardian as it's a British paper and so can't be leaned on like the bulk of US corporate media can.
Also, their coverage is very well researched, comprehensive and persuasive. They don't want their personnel getting ideas.
I also wouldn't rule out small-minded pettiness.
They lost this round but expect them to continue pushing their agenda. The only way to stop these anti-consumer tactics is to not buy an XBone. Sony doesn't get a pass either, their anti-consumer exploits are legendary.
True. Even so, can't people monitor their internet connection and be able to tell when they're being spied on?
I'm not competent enough to do this but I'd be surprised if there wasn't a way to record the IP address that unauthorized data is being sent to, along with the nature of the data itself.
Wish I had mod points.
Furthermore, if you're a relative of someone who got murdered by a drone because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time, the US became a terrorist organization long ago.
What rubbish.
Comments seem to veer from "OMG! He's a traitor who should be publicly executed" to, "who cares? I thought everyone knew this was happening, it's been going on for years"
I don't see anything in the docs released thus far that would compromise any operations - Because Snowden was careful only to release stuff that details the general nature of the program.
Anyway, give me "several 9/11 level attacks" over a massive government spying operation on its own people. Sometimes the cure is worse than the disease.
One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.
This guy saw the direction that the NSA and other agencies are taking and, at considerable personal cost, took a stand.
I applaud his actions and hope we can have a meaningful discussion about where we're heading as a species. Maybe you're comfortable with the government knowing so much about you, whom you talk to, what you do on the internet, where you spend money and so forth. I'm not.
As for your "Islamist hordes" comment - you should probably lay off the colorful rhetoric for a while there. Makes you look both racist and stupid.
Who knows? I like my Wii U but it certainly isn't perfect. Now that the other two consoles have shown their hands, expect the hate to be redirected shortly.
The sticking point is the question of what is tax exempt, I don't see how that can be taken care of with an amendment. Do you list everything exempt? All food? How about chocolate? What about fuel oil? Gasoline? Utilities? Cars? Health care?
Don't think for a second that there aren't politicians in the US who would push hard for the only tax exempt things to be one raw potato per week and maybe some drinking water, if the claimant has proof that all local puddles have dried up.
Stack up your "tax games" against the claim that Mitt Romney didn't pay any income tax for 10 years. That claim may or may not be true but it certainly isn't outside of the realms of possibility, given the way the tax code is.
That's an awful idea. Poor people will spend every cent they earn and pay sales tax on that expenditure. Rich people will not spend every cent, and so will pay a lower rate of tax than the poor. Dreadful.
As for the idea that food, etc would be tax exempt - do you really trust politicians, especially on the right, to look out for the needs of the less well off? They've been doing an awful job in that regard for generations.
If corporations are people then, as a person, I too have decided only to pay the amount of tax I see fit.
Seriously, pay the full rate on income to the nation that income was earned in or GTFO. Same goes for Apple, Exxon, GE and the rest.
No. I'm asking what it would take for a cyber attack to be comparable with a traditional act of war.
I'm certainly in favor of looking at trade restrictions. If iPhones have to cost more and be made in the US, that's fine by me.
Older people tend to remember the struggles needed to gain freedom.
Beat me to it. Well played.
No, like you're doing right now.
Please tell me you're fucking joking.

Over a ten year period including 9/11, you were 100 times more likely to die of a gunshot than terrorism.

Didn't Clapper commit perjury? I'm not sure why he hasn't been charged?

Can you then provide an example of when whistleblowing is justified?

I did wonder if you'd be dumb enough to fall for that one. See if you can figure it out for yourself. Here's a hint: "brown people"

Yes, I understand that. Still, is it really too much trouble for the submitter to link to the guy who actually did the work on this?

Exactly. I don't believe that guy is capable of introducing any legislation that's consumer-focused, sensible or otherwise non-cronyish.
The winged monkeys are being readied as we speak.
