Windows 8 will likely be too unless they do a complete rewrite to accomodate ARM. Personally I think Windows 8 is a perfect opertunity to build on the rumored Midori/Singularity concept. Considering its all managed code portability and compatibility between the architectures would be alot easier.

Its not really jailbreaking, to 'root' your phone only really gives you the ability to install custom ROM's (version of the OS) on the phone. Jailbreaking was different and nessecary if you wanted applications that are not on the iTunes store. Rooting your phone is only nessecary if you want the latest version of Android and Samsung, Motorola, HTC, etc cant be bothered upgrading.

Of course you can just get a Nexus phone if you really care about having the latest Android.

Personally I intend on rooting this phone the minute I get it back. Any good mods for Desire Z / G2?

Not 100% what he is getting at, but I think he's implying that Linux does have considerable market share while the 16 year old only counts desktops and laptops which renders his point moot considering both OS's have considerable marketshare in their more focused areas.

I would just much rather imply considering the 16 year old is making an argument "they'd be much worse off than Windows" with zero evidence to back up his claim, he likely bases that on a tautology... an observation which is not a good way to make a claim.

Personally I agree with AC on Netbeans... it is a pile of crap. Eclipse is nice enough and I agree C# is a much neater language for application development but Java does have it's place and not going away anytime soon (just no more Java in SAP please).

MySQL is crap if you are trying to run big databases that usually run on Oracle, DB2. Otherwise it's fine for its intended purpose. Personally I would switch to Postgres as I still worry of MySQL's future.

OpenOffice is bloated but it is supposed to be. It's feature rich and designed to be an alternative to the 800lb Gorilla known as Microsoft Office, personally I find that to be the true star of the Sun software suite. Compatibility has not been an issue with me for a long time except VB macros (which need to die badly)

I have more interest in the rumors about the next version of Windows going to a microkernel sort of design, making use of what has been achieved so far with Singularity. So far from what I see, Windows 7 is pretty much Windows Vista with XP resource managment (which isn't great, just an improvment over Vista). Still the same NT6.1 kernel as Server 2008.

Rumors are the next Windows Mobile may use the Singularity microkernel, if thats true that could be a good sign of things to come. The options of moving pretty much anything Microsoft wants from userspace to kernel space and vice versa to suit various needs (like SQL Server in kernel space while leaving everything else back in userspace for a database server).

In the long run they wil lcome to realise that their place is a hostile working environment and managment will force their hand for staff to change their approach.
