With any other laptop manufacturer, some would comment "They probably saved a few cents leaving that out". The Apple of today, this looks increasingly likely, especially since they want you to buy the accessories. Accessories are the "bloatware" equivalent on Macs.

Does that mean we hold Microsoft to a higher standard than Apple?

As an ad blocker user, and science-loving geek I feel such a hypocrite that the herd immunity that anti-vaxxers are abusing is so similar to the reason that I can block ads and still enjoy the free content that is on the web "bought" by advertisers. Or maybe the irony is that my ad blocker is actually my vaccine from the malware on the web?

I guess we need info about the aliens to determine if we have to hide from them. Know your enemy and all that. Our own activities probably create enough noise that aliens would be able to detect us, and we won't stop using them unless it puts us in danger. Of course, knowing where they are may encourage some alien-worshipping religion to send a blast of signals to the appropriate section of the sky to initiate first contact.

  7. Re:current round-up on Apple Releases New Touch Screen iPod · · Score: 1

I just checked the Australian Apple store and the 8Gb iPodTouch costs AU$419, whereas US$299 is actually AU$363.22. I checked the UK store and it costs £199 whereas the US converted price is £147.85. Okay, so some people say that people in the UK get paid more than the same person would have been if he was in the US to justify the price increase. Is that the same for Australia?

  12. Re:Details? on Acrobat-killer Submitted to Standards Body · · Score: 1

I think Adobe brought it on themselves. They distribute the reader freely but has no free pdf printer themselves despite a number of free ones out there. The computer newbie has no trouble finding the reader but finding a GOOD and FREE pdf printer involves too much trial and error, not to mention getting one will probably not even cross their minds. I would gladly use XPS if it means I don't have to start installing extra software to read and write to the format, like I do with ASCII text documents. I know some would think it's like IE all over again but it's also Adobe's fault for not taking more advantage of their format. They could have become like the ZIP standard. Mike
