Why the negative commentary? Why editorialise while posting? I understand people might not like Google, but to post your own opinions mixed into what is essentially the rolling news seems unnecessary and unprofessional. Surly such views are for the comments, as in to comment on the story?
The right thing to do in this situation is to ask that all devices be turned off or put in airplane mode. Not all will comply, but enough to greatly improve performance of the demo.
I don't think that's going to look very good from a company who is in the business of selling always on mobile gadgets! Given we didn't see the tablets there are things that I'm sure could have been done. Maybe a very close antenna in a partial Faraday cage, though I'm no electrical engineer.
As long as we cannot prevent criminals from having guns (most do, even in countries where gun possession is highly restricted),
Simply not true - gun ownership among criminals in the uk is pretty low.
Yet they have more violent crime per-capita than we do in the US.
That's actually not true. The statistics that both countries produce are based on different criteria. For example, AFAIK, the UK includes crimes where there is just a threat of violence. (no actual bodily harm has to occur) In the US crimes of aggravated assault and above are counted. So 'violent crime' is a oranges vs apples comparison. Arguably a better comparison is the murder rate, which is ~4.8 for the US and ~1.2 for the UK.
They key, like a lot of things, is with the kids. If the kids who are 15-18 embrace them it will become normal to that generation and thus the acceptability will propagate upwards as they get older. What Google has to do is make it fashionable, like Apple managed with the iPhone.
I suspect most commentators here are of the generation after such an audience and so are slightly averse to radicle new things like this. Just like my parents were to mobile phones, and I am to social media.
This sort of attitude really annoys me. People have always said crap like this, like "why would anyone need this automobile? there are no petrol stations so where would I be able to go", or "who is ever going to need more than 640k of RAM?" its all just so short sighted.
In the near term maybe people have to use Wine to get access to the latest games, however the fact that this is being sold might wake games developers up to that they're missing out on a market. And once they start developing, everyone else starts noticing. Its a positive cycle.
You might, but I'd like it on a decent gaming machine which would force the hardware companies to provide decent drivers. And guess what, all the kids who buy a Linux gaming machine will grow up using Linux along with things like Open Office, so when they get to the work place the Microsoft stranglehold will be loosened.
Though you're right, I'd like the offering to be more prominent (and available in the UK!) but its still a good start and not to be scoffed at.
Its precisely these sorts of misleading headlines that need to be taken out of the industry. From the actual sodding article entitled "Press regulation deal sparks fears of high libel fines for bloggers":
publisher would have to meet the three tests of whether the publication is publishing news-related material in the course of a business, whether their material is written by a range of authors – this would exclude a one-man band or a single blogger – and whether that material is subject to editorial control.
I don't under the thinner part. Micro USB is, what, 2mm high? The lightening connector is.5mm smaller, but what appliances would require such a reduced size? The iPhone 5 is 7mm+ high for example.
I don't understand that either. Just from a developers point of view, I've always said its easier to check the version of the browser using an int rather than having to parse something like '2.33.23.rc8'.
There are two sections of the M1 between London and Leeds, when it is a 4 lane carriageway, where there are speed cameras on almost every sign gantry over the road.
However right now it seems they are only 'on' when the variable speed limit is in force, but there is no reason they couldn't turn them on all the time.
If your firewall is blocking gaming ports, I'd imagine the intention is to stop you playing games so firing up a LAN party probably wouldn't go down well.
I'm really glad you don't have a hand in our gun laws. I'm perfectly happy with guns being illegal for everyone. Makes it easy to spot the criminals, if you own a gun you're going to be shot by the police, nice 'n' simple.
I guess they lifted it from his Wikipedia page, if you bother to click through you get to the list, although they only have 326. The 1000 comes from reprints, different editions and different languages, which to me is a bit spurious.
Anyway, a bad write up doesn't take away from the mans greatness. He will be missed.
Not really. In my 20s I'd work longer hours but so would everyone else in the company, so after the long day was done you'd go to the pub and have a good evening. Get up the next day, recover from the night before and do it all again and you could because you were 20 something. Work hard, play hard, as the mantra goes.
They didn't actually name him. Someone on Twitter did.
Now they may have not named him because they couldn't be absolutely sure it was him (they even asked for parliamentary privilege not to be used to name him), so you'd could argue that it shouldn't have been run on that reason. But you cant blame the BBC for someone else naming him.
This looks like a lot of political opportunism to me, the Conservative party have always been trying to reduce the size and influence of the BBC, something which some could say an example of which could be the closeness of David Cameron and Rebecca Brooks and others from News International. And organisation which of course would really like to see the BBC take some flack.
Don't call me Shirley.
The demo wasn't anything to do with the device, it was to do with the developer API. Apart from the S4 no actual device was shown.

If you don't know about Linux, buying a Linux gaming machine is a good way to start.

Confused by an incrementing number? May I suggest this site isn't for you.

Mandated by whom? MS might be requiring it for Windows 8 certification, but thats a far cry from 'all computers'.
Everyone knows lasers are for either destroying planets or confusing cats!
The play was good fun, pub every night. Happy days.

And yet all the press were saying the same thing when the super injunctions were being breached and absolutly nothing happened...
And surprisingly all of these facts are being 'missed' by the other news outlets in the UK. Madness.
