  7. Re:What a joke! on Jakob Nielsen on Design, RSS, Email, and Blogs · · Score: 0

    I have Jakob Nielsen and Marie Tahir's book: Homepage Usability--50 Websites Deconstructed. I started reading this book when I first started designing and I can say that Jakob Nielsen has had more influence on my design than anything else.
    Although I agree that his website isn't the greatest it doesn't represent what kind of guru he is. He has had a major impact on web design. Big companies like eBay have hired him to consult with their designers. In his book he goes through About, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Boeing, Disney, and Yahoo. I'm not saying everything he says is absolutely correct but much of it is. He is been in this business for years and definately knows what he is talking about.
    Just because his website may look like crap, that doesn't lessen his opinion at all. He has changed the face of modern usability in web-sites and for this, he deserves respect.

  8. Before/After: on Gates' Replacement says Microsoft Must Simplify · · Score: 0

    Before Ozzie:
    #include
    using namespace std;
    int main()

    After Ozzie:
    #include
    using namespace std;
    void welcome()
    {
    cout }
    int main()
    {
    welcome();
    return 0;
    }

    To simplify they have decided to use an amazing new technique pionereed by Lotus Notes creator Ozzie. Microsoft is calling it "procedural" programming and it is rumoured to have increased productivity and ease of programming by over 50%.
    Bill Gates commented that only a programming genius like Ozzie would be able to come up with an idea so revolutionary.

    First of all, what good would Apple gain by buying Nintendo. The author said that Apple would think about building a console based on the Mac Mini. Why would Apple need Nintendo to do this?
    Second of all, what good would Nintendo gain by being bought by Apple. Nintendo is on the brink of releasing a console that is predicted to very well. Why would they give all this up just because the two companies share a similair design scheme and following?

  16. Fight. on NSA To Datamine Social Networking Sites · · Score: 1

    If they want information, they're going to have to work for it. We have to stand up for our rights and show the government that we're not just goint to sit by while this happens. Make fake accounts, post anonymously, and more than anything else, get the information out that this is happening. People have to be told -- if you're a big MySpace person, send out announcements to all your friends. Tell everyone, send letters, and create new communities that stress encryption and privacy.
    They can kill the revolutionary but not the revolution.
    If we stand on the side and allow this to happen in ten years the internet will be controlled by the political leaders. We have to fight to stop this. There is no other choice.
