I'm totally addicted to live, so even if they told me to go fuck myself, I really wouldn't have had an acceptable choice.
Sadly this is still true. MS Fuckyourself 2009 and Fuckyourself Live! will not ship in time for the Holiday season. The legal department was concerned over issues of proper controller cleaning after each game session. Note the game may make it to market next year with a tube of antiseptic lube and an additional warning in the manual.
DXball (MegaBall based breakout game) runs OK on basic machines, you can still get the free version on cnet: http://www.download.com/DX-Ball/3000-2099_4-10155579.html
Also, NoNags has a lot of games, all free. I would think anything saying it is Win9x and XP compatable would not be too demanding. At Nonags you want the 6/6 rated software, though some of the 5/6 stuff is OK too. http://www.nonags.com/
I, the Big Clam, must state on behalf of the spirit of the Great Mollusk, creator of all galaxies, that your utterance has doomed you to boil in the Eternal Bouillabaisse of Damnation! Please repent, and join us for an eternity of bliss, wrapped in the warmth of the Great Chowder In The Sky.
Fanatical people don't think of themselves as fanatical. Only the people that label them fanatical do..
That's true, and it seems that extremism is becoming the norm. This can not be tolerated! I say intolerance and extremism must be wiped out on every level...
If it actually becomes useful it will go away. A few years back they had an option to "exclude" domains from search results as an option on every link. I used that thing every time I hit a bogus domain and in a week or two my search results were actually valid, usable, and to the point. Then the option vanished and it was back to sifting through the bullshit to find the information. This will go away because someone that pays for a lot of Google services will not like it.
Right, but look at how many books are needed. You only need one kernel for Linux, and it is an evolving thing... How many text books do you need to get through pre-med, and then med school... and those books change all the time as the field advances. Unlike Apache where the product is configured to do the job at hand, numerous books will be needed for each education. There will be a lot of overlap, yes, but the books still have to run the gambit of topics needed for a well rounded education. I think they may have to make it like software houses work now, the writer gets paid once for their work and the cost of the book is kept very low because it was never printed. Possibly sell distribution rights to the school and let them build the cost into the tuition.
In the US your landlord can prohibit you from drilling a hole through an exterior wall, making installation a pain. See http://www.fcc.gov/mb/facts/otard.html about half way down, "Are there restrictions that may be placed on residents of rental property?". I have worked closely with installers and reputable ones always require owner consent before they punch holes in a building.
I can remember seeing some Medeco keys when I was working at a construction site. The cut edges of the keys teeth beveled front to back and side to side. I did not see the tumblers of a lock, so I never got to verify that the tumblers needed that double slope to make the pins line up, or if there was some other reason... Now I wonder if it was just to keep people from making copies on a standard key duplicator. If the tumbler strikes the center of the cross key slope to line up, then a duplicated key would not work as it would follow the highest point on the keys teeth. using a thin plastic tooth pattern would work because it could be moved up and down to catch all the tumblers. This would be even easier on a normal key.
Not at all. When free people act in a irresponsible manner it causes those affected by their actions to seek legislation that then gives the state the power to limit or correct the behavior of the irresponsible people. And that is overall bad for freedom, making it smaller and damaging it.
If you wish to take a free society away from someone all you need to do is get them to do nothing about it... you don't need any basis, just apathy.
$150 a month for minimum legal coverage, really? In AZ it's about $40 a month... and I used to spend more than that on cigarettes (I dropped that habit due to illness, best coma that ever happened to me, I woke up a non-smoker). I was simply relating my own experience in this area, not implying that each unlawful motorist is also a drug or alcohol addict. Maybe it would be better if the insurance was built into the cost of fuel. While coverage would be less avoidable, that is also less palatable to me personally. In any case I still don't have a problem with seeking illegal cars and drivers with technology... mainly because it is unrealistic to expect people to not use the tools in front of them, no matter who they work for.

The glass beads we trade to the natives are getting ever more shiny
Turns out they are currently worth more than the real estate we got for them...
Thus spurring the race for dark-matter or anti-matter bombs. We are clever monkeys, there will always be a way to do what should be unthinkable.

Its almost like they were trying to do the right thing and realised they did the wrong thing.
Yup, but then they did the right thing about having done the wrong thing while attempting to do the right thing... sadly that is rare these days.
Touch WHAT?
Wow, that brings to mind the image of a CPU the size of a pool table... Awesome
I agree, out with MPG! Personally, I have already switched over to what I hope will become the new standard....

Oh, wait...
Vista SP2 is going to remove my email (Thunderbird) and photo apps (Picasa)?
They would like to, along with the companies that produced them if they can...
I always like the windows "Unexpected Error", it made me feel like someone is sitting around thinking "Well, we expected errors, but... THIS!?!?
Because a cat will turn around and kick your butt or die trying and a rabbit... well... Look at the BONES!
Umm... people reading page after page of slashdot comments?
We are being "mooned" by the sun?

She'd better watch out, or the milk company will be after her for stealing their crates.
Yup, in my state it's up to $250 per crate you possess. Gee, that means I have about $8000 in umm... "modular shelving units with convenient handles".
Right! A sort of embrace, extend... oh wait...
...Then they go and release more sensitive details in their court documents which are public record than the original presentation was to discuss.
It's not often you get to see someone step on their own pecker with both feet, while advertising the fact.
You might be able to trademark "???", but not copyright.
There are some handy lists on this page.
